Kenya & Lebanon: Tragic end to a woman’s big dreams

Folks,

It is out of excessive poverty and frustrations to survival from the have nots, that growing circumstances such as these happen in our midst, especially people of African descent. In this lacking state, Rose Adhiambo’s case may pass without much help. Itis in this thread that I appeal to the World to step in and come to the aid of the poorand helpless, to locate the Rose Adhaimbo’s state, whether dead or alive.

I therefore appeal to all well wishers in human empathy, World Government Leaders, United Nations and NGOs of the World to intervene and step-up investigations under humanitarian grounds to find the truth of the matter and help the family and relatives
of Rose Adhiambo.

It is possible she could have fallen in a trap from despair, but I believe when we unite for a common good for humanity, this load will become lighter, and I thank you all in advance for heeding to this call.

The Olwande’s are longtime family friends in Mombasa. Please get involved and assist this family.

Tragic end to a woman’s big dreams

By Philip Mwakio

She wanted to live on the fast lane and chose to achieve it in a foreign country. But six months later, Rose Adhiambo called from the Lebanese capital Beirut, requesting special prayers. “Tomorrow is the D-Day, please pray for me,” she told her aunt, Margaret Olwande two weeks ago. These were to be Adhiambo’s last words as she planned an escape from her employer.

The 24 year-old woman from Nyanza, has now gone missing and is presumed dead.

She is said to have fallen to her death from the sixth floor of a building in a bungled bid to escape from a house where she worked as house help.

A Lebanese newspaper, Al-Akhbar, reported on September 1 that a Kenyan immigrant worker was found dead on a first floor balcony of a building after falling from the sixth floor in Beirut’s Sahel Alma area.

“She was trying to go down hanging on a nylon rope from her employer’s house, according to Police reports,” the newspaper reported.

Now Adhiambo’s relatives in Kenya believe their daughter could either be dead or was in grave danger.

Her employer has confirmed her death through an agent but has declined to speak to her relatives.

House help

The woman worked as house help and had been complaining about slavery-like working conditions. She got the job through an agent based in Mombasa last December and relatives now regret why they allowed her to travel to Lebanon.
Olwande says her niece was an ambitious girl determined to have a better future.

Adhiambo got her early education in Kisumu before travelling to Mombasa where she joined her relatives. Her parents, Maurice and Jael Otete who live in Nairobi believed their daughter had landed a good job in the Middle East.

“We did not know the kind of job she was going to do in Beirut,” says Alfred Otete, Adhiambo’s elder brother.

It later turned out that Adhiambo tried to escape when life became unbearable.

Her phone went dead soon after and neither her employer nor the agent in Mombasa would offer an explanation.
Her brother Alfred later turned to social network, Face book to help trace his sister.

“I spent several hours browsing for any possible information but without success,” he says

Adhiambo’s elder sister, Ms Sylvia Odhiambo told The Stadard that her sibling always wanted to retun home and suspect she may have been killed by her employer or was being detained.
“They claimed she jumped to her death from the sixth floor of a building, but a Kenyan friend who lives on the outskirts of Beirut denies ever hearing about such an incident,” says Odhiambo.

Rose Adhiambo ?

She adds: “Her employer called to say he would send the body to Kenya after three days but he has not called again and his phones are off. He also refused to tell us where the body is being kept.”

Ms Odhiambo says they have tried to contact Lebanese consulate in Nairobi with no success. The Mombasa- based agent who recruited Adhiambo has not been of any help either.

“When we pressurised him, he gave us names of four different hospitals. We called the hospitals but none had the body of an African in their morgues,” says Ms Olwande.

Employer

But Mr Ali Muhamad of Inter-Lead Limited says he is not to blame for Adhiambo’s woes.

“Our business ends after we find a sponsor (employer). We do not know how she ended up in Lebanon,’’ Muhamad said. He confirmed Adhiambo had died but did not know when the body would be flown home.

The family is seeking help from the government to send a relative to Beirut to get Adhiambo, dead or alive.

    This is sorrow full,

Kenyans and the people, world over should know that, there are places that should not be visited .

Saudi Arabia, and in most cases, almost all the Arab countries, should be avoided! There are millions of examples of maids, from the Phillipines, who have barely escaped with their lives, from these vile, evil nations! people should not go there. Try other fair nations where human rights are assured!

For Kenyans, Please try; Canada, USA, and England, or the greater Europe. Australia, and New Zealand. Avoid all Arab countries! The Arabs are vile, evil and care less about people! Stay away from them!

They are not humans and they have no conscience, or humanity, in them!

Subject: Tragic end to a woman’s big dreams

    Co leagues

This is yet another tragic that has befallen one among us. I have known Mr. Oluwande and family in Mombasa for a long time. Oluwande and family are struggling with life like any other Kenya and due to that his niece who grew under his care went to seak for job outside Kenya like many Kenyans a Broad. Kenyans leave the Country in big numbers in search of better living jobs which is not easy to be found in the Country. Some of them succeed some of them fail. When one of us fail, it is a lesson and it is for us to improve so that the others following us do not fall a victim of the same failure.

It is about 5 years or so when a young Kikuyu lady got in exactly the same problem in the Middle East [ Arab ] Countries but she was lucky and came back to her family in Kenya presumably Mombasa after going through a lot of torcher and serious risks.

These Kenyans young and old go through these ordeals Not because they like it but Because Kenya Government does NOT and CANNOT give jobs to make all Kenyans meet the basic living stand ad.

Since this is Government FAILURE it is the Government to compensate Oleander’s family.

It is the duty the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to follow up the case of any Kenyan who has any problem in any Foreign Country in the World regardless of the case matter.

    REFERENCE;-

    1. Sometimes around 2003 3 Kenya Drivers were arrested and detained for entering Afghanistan illegally The Minister for Foreign Affairs then was Hon Ali Makwere. He intervened but later left the Office and Hon. Tuju who took his position seceded to convince Afghanistan Government and the 3 Drivers were released and came back to Kenya.

    2. Sometimes last year Fishermen were captured and arrested by Uganda Government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs intervened and the Fishermen were released.

    3. Last Month an American News Paper writer was released from Afghanistan after she was captured and detained in Afghanistan for Many years.

    4. Yesterday one young American Girl was released from the same Afghanistan after she was arrested with 2 other young girls that they were American Spays in Afghanistan and detained for several years with torches and serious threats.

For these reasons and more it is the Government to bring the Girl back to the family Alive or Dead.

The Argent should be charged and NOT allowed to operate in Kenya if his Clients from Eastern Countries has NO value for Human Lives.

Co leagues! it is for us all to push this through to the Government. We do not know what tomorrow has for us.

Mr. Oluwande & Margaret please accept my sympathy together with my family. I am very sorry.
