Kenya: Secret Mutula died with – WHAT ARE THEY?

May God Bless your heart my sista. Missery and loses such as this before us requires humility and wisdom. It requires keeness of observations looking at possible hints. We engage t consult our deepest thoughts and share opinions leads with a purpose to get the intelligence to move closer to what actually happened.

It is because we want to know why did it have to happen and who are the probable possible suspects to help zero in to who did what and why.

I am still saddened and have not gotten to reality of whether one of our leaders Mutula Kilonzo have actually died.

To see some people making a mockery of our consultation quest just defeat me.

"Birds of the same feather flock together". We were treated to a dangerous drama in 2007/8 where killings of the innocent were engineered and executed by political thugs. A panel of eminent African Leaders led by Kofi Annan were set up and ICC Hague was formalized. The constitution was put to effect amidst twist and turns where the political gang, although having lost at the Refrendum against the People Mandate, found their way into parliament and changed the constitution to suit and favour their unscrupulous Corporate Special Business Interest who added dangerous clauses to provide for their "Free Business Trade" of acquiring public wealth and resources without check and balances for Transparency and Accountability so they can get away with wrong doing and their unjustified Trading Partners evade paying taxes while they float in explosive corruption.

These Birds of the same feather enjoyed and benefited from the loot of public cofer. This was public money which was stolen and was acquired unfairly, unjustly and irregularly through corruption between the Chinese Agents of the Unscrupulous Corporate special business community from Canada who ganged up with the World Bank and some US Corporate Business individuals to siphone money through the account of Vision 2030 which have no head or tail but created a worse-case-scenario of poverty in Kenya and the East Africa Nations.

For the thieves to stick together and continue to drain the poor into poverty death-bed, "Birds of the same feather" colluded not to complete the police Reform, but use the same to eliminate Evidence of ICC Hague.

Wake up people.........more people are still going to die because "Birds of the Same Feather" demands that their fellows who were voted out by the people, are sneaked through the back door to parliament.

This is why, their possible orphans are making mockery of the death of Mutula Kilonzo.

This is why Saitoti and Ojode were killed and we must not take Mutula Kilonzo killing as a joke.

He already let us down with the Prof. Chochi Kiarie Kinuthia Ole Saitoti-Muthengi's autopsy. He did a very lousy and silly job. The digital adminstrators are telling us to move forward and not backwards and yet dudes like Dr. Oduor are pulling us backwards. If someone tells you to move forward, please do so in the interests of Kenya. That is what Kenyatta Senior used to tell us, "Kenya Yasonga Mbele". He used to say that Forward we succeed, Backwards we fail. Its my humble prayer that these expatriates will determine the actual cause of death so that we can either songa mbele or nyuma. Hopefully, this won't be another of Dr. Ouko's type of eliminations. Lets all pray to our almighty father to save our souls.

Annan mourns Mutula

KENYA: Former United Nations secretary General, Kofi Annan, has mourned the death of Makueni Senator, Mutula Kilozo.

In a statement released to newsrooms, Annan condoled the family of the late Senator as well as the nation of Kenya for losing ‘a true patriot and statesman’.

"I am deeply saddened to learn of the sudden demise of Senator, the Hon Mutula Kilonzo, and wish to express my deepest condolences to his family, and to the Government and the people of Kenya,” said Annan.

Reminiscing on when he worked with the former Minister in brokering the national coalition deal following the 2007/2008 post poll conflict, Annan lauded Mutula for his contribution in the talks.

“While Mutula will be remembered for the distinction with which he served in both the private and public sectors, I will never forget the essential role he played as a member of the Negotiations Team during the Kenya National Dialogue and Reconciliation (KNDR) process, and its subsequent implementation,” read Annan’s statement.

Kofi Annan, who spearheaded peace talks between Former President Kibaki and Raila Odinga, is the chair of the African Union (AU) Panel of Eminent African Personalities.

Annan joins President Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and former presidents Kibaki and Moi who have expressed their grief at the loss of Matula Kilonzo.

Mutula passed on Saturday in his Maanzoni home in Machakos County on Saturday morning.

Secret Mutula died with

Nairobi, Kenya: There is a secret so big that Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo will take to his grave. It is a story he warned Standard reporter Roselyne Obala would shake Kenya.

Though he refused to give details, the late Senior Counsel insisted to Obala the story would not only surprise Kenyans, but could have major consequences.

That was on March 28 after Mutula was sworn in as Senator. A post-mortem scheduled to be carried out on his body Monday will seek to establish why he died suddenly, and without making even a single call to family or friends for help.

Sunday, as those close to him called for thorough probe into his death on Friday or Saturday night, a special team of detectives from Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters in Nairobi began working to try and piece together what transpired in the former Education minister’s final hours at his ranch.

At the same time, three committees were formed to plan his burial, after a day’s meeting with the family. They are the Senate, National Assembly and Family committees.

“We’ve had a consultative meeting with the family and agreed to form the three committees, the Senate, the National Assembly where he was before going to the Senate and the family one. The committee will meet on tomorrow for other arrangements,” said Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama at Mutula’s home in Gigiri, Nairobi.

According to the Family committee’s interim secretary Mr Musyoki Kivindyo, each committee will meet and come up with a progressive report on burial arrangements that befit the late Senior Counsel.

Straight talking

It also emerged from his friend and former Attorney General Amos Wako, who is also the Busia Senator and was among the last to speak with Mutula, that the former Justice minister was in robust health.

Mutula’s trainer at the Hilton Hotel gymnasium, who took the former Makueni Senator through his aerobic sessions on Friday morning, corroborated this statement.

Later in the afternoon, Mutula would leave for his Maanzoni Ranch in Machakos County, where he would be found dead the following day, with foam on his mouth.

Mutula, a straight-talking politician and astute lawyer, told Obala a month before he died that he would reveal to her the secret he bore ‘with time’, but sadly he died before they could meet again.

On that March 28, after being sworn-in as Senator for Makueni, he said, during a short interview, that he had information that if published in the media, would “cause panic and mayhem”.

Said Obala: “A jovial Kilonzo emerged from the Senate and we had a brief encounter at the Senator’s lounge. It was on Thursday afternoon on March 28, when I engaged him in an interview to get to understand the Senate’s role,’’ reports Obala.

“From the outset, he appeared happy, energetic and raring to go, dressed in a brown suit. We exchanged pleasantries, and I began by congratulating him on his election as Senator for Makueni.”

Suddenly diverted

Obala goes on: “He began outlining the responsibilities of Senators and how they will take the National Government to task over devolution. He then said their role was to be a link between County Governments and National Government.”

Mutula was explaining how they intend to take on the National Government over the implementation of the Devolution, “when he suddenly diverted and stated that there is a lot going on that Kenyans need to know,’’ Obala went on.

Mutula told her that it is no secret that the National Government is trying to frustrate the implementation of Devolved Government. ”

It was at this juncture that his tone changed, he looked serious and stated; “I have information that if I disclose to you Monday, your papers will be burnt the next minute.”

The statement came as a surprise, but when Obala pressed him, because she was curious to know more, and even offered not to name him in the story, Kilonzo retorted: “No, No, No.”

She pleaded with him, saying, “Please Mheshimiwa (Honourable), I will use an anonymous source,” he declined.

When she insisted he reiterated as they walked down the stairs: “Save the company (Standard Group Limited) and yourself. I promise to give you the information at the right time.”

Those were Mutula’s last words to the journalist as he walked away and, unfortunately, that is where the big story that never came to life ended.

Sunday, the officers from the CID’s Homicide Unit based at Mazingira Building along Kiambu Road took over the probe from their colleagues in Machakos. The team, led by the unit’s head Mr John Kariuki, will work with those from Machakos and are expected to attend Monday’s planned post-mortem exercise.

Officials at CID headquarters revealed the Homicide Unit revisited the scene where the body was found and was set to take over all samples that had been collected. They also interviewed Mutula’s workers who prepared him supper on Friday.

“They will visit the place where the food was prepared as part of the investigations into the death. They have also taken away samples of the food for testing and analysis,” said a senior officer aware of the probe.

The cause of the death is yet to be established.

Sitting alone

“I do not know why I was not alarmed by this odd attitude. He was not keen on participating in Senate sessions, but wanted to talk more about his family and his career fulfillment. I should have prodded him further,” said Senator Wako, remarking wistfully about his last meeting with a friend he had known for over 35 years.

Wako last met Mutula on Thursday in the Senate during the afternoon sessions. He remembers seeing his friend walking in and sitting alone on a secluded seat. Mutula appeared dull and engrossed in personal thoughts; or may be it was just mental fatigue, said Senator Wako.

“I quickly moved to where he was and sat next to him and asked where he had been all this time. I was concerned that he had missed out on the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) retreat at Naivasha, and other party engagements,” Wako told The Standard.

However, the Busia Senator does not remember getting a clear answer to his question. Instead he asked his friend, whether he was prepared to make any contributions to the ongoing debate on the floor of the House.

But Mutula, indifferently, said there was no need.

“What is there to discuss about?” he asked, as if to suggest the issue at hand was not beyond his parliamentary colleagues to handle.

According to his fitness instructor of six years, who identified himself only as Tim, Mutula was at the gym at 6am in the morning, and went through his routine aerobic paces for 30 minutes before leaving.

“He was jovial as usual and quite physically fit as I took the aerobic class through the usual paces. Mheshimiwa was fit and went through the paces non-stop, without showing any signs of slowing down,” Tim told The Standard.

Tobiko appoints team to guide probe on Mutula’s death

Nairobi, Kenya: Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has appointed a team of prosecutors to assist and guide police investigating the death of Mutula Kilonzo.

The team to be headed by Senior Assistant DPP Grace Murungi is supposed to assist and guide the team of police led by deputy head of investigations at CID headquarters Mr Pius Macharia.

“Further, I do direct that upon completion of these investigations, do kindly cause the resultant inquiry file to be submitted to this office for perusal and appropriate direction,” said Tobiko in a letter to Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo.

Tobiko’s move is indicates the seriousness that his office is giving the death of the Makueni Senator whose body was discovered in his bed on Saturday long after he had died.

The investigators have been unable to point the time and cause of his death but have since recorded statements from almost a dozen of people.

Those interrogated include workers at his Maanzoni home where he died. The team on Monday said samples of food they collected from the scene are still preserved to wait for the results of the post-mortem exercise that is scheduled to be conducted Tuesday.

The samples will be tested by experts locally and internationally and the Government Chemists to establish if they contained any poison that may have caused the death, said an officer in the team.

Meanwhile, the burial of the late senator is scheduled for Wednesday May 9.

We have a job to do. We are not in judgement, like Tebiti has put it so uptly, "There are lots of explanation lingering" why the Government is slack and slow to act in the investigation of Sen. Kilonzo Mutula. There are lots of lose evidence in the public place that provide for lead to investigation instead of leaving the world in suspense. These are clear leads that are causing panic and serious speculation to the general public and the world. We want to know what the Government did with the information Mutula put to the Parliament and the security he was given when he complained about his life with that of his family being in danger. These are leads the Government must come clean about.

These are reason I feel Mutual was not given his obligated rights for security and protection. Could these be reasons for dilly dallying of getting to the bottom of what happened, what did the intelligence get, what could have possibly led to circumstantial foaming found on his mouth, what was the state of the body when found, who could have been the first suspects, why was he sad, sorrowful and remorseful the previous evening when he met with coleagues at Parliament and so on and so forth, summary of which he was found by his death-bed.

These are preliminary issue-based details the public want to know in order they can trust governments' investigative process to ascertain trust. But the way things are, and the way the situation is handled by the security is suspecious and worrisome.

Because of excessive corruption, organized terrorims, threats also including Land Grabbing and Human Rights crime, violation and abuses in Kenya, we are very worried and anxious that Kenya and Kenyans are not safe under the corrupt police and political cover-ups. It is the reason why many more lives will be targeted and people shall be killed.

Considering that we recently lost Saitoti and Ojode with 6 occupants in Chopper, we shall not take this matter easy.

We are not going to give the Government's political agents a soft carpet intimidate and oppress people through fear-factors mafia tactics. This world does not belong to a few special interests, but to all of us.

To get to the bottom of our pain and sufferings, why we are in extreme poverty and have no happiness; we demand for a right to independent investigative experts to be determined and expose the truth for action to be instituted.

Yes it is a huge shock indeed to every peace loving Kenyan. We are yet to come to terms as to how he died in a such painful yet quiet death in his bedroom without anybody hearing when he straggled to get to the birth-tab sick to emit orally. Yes he was by himself, that could be one of the reasons. However, how come our state investigative organs haven't picked any suspect for questioning about his death? The only info we have is that they asked the house help about his condition and how he looked like when he arrived at his ranch. Just a few days ago, two bombs were planted at a marathon even in Boston, Massachusetts which exploded killing three innocent bystanders and maimed dozens of hundreds people. It only took a couple of hours to know who the suspects were and a manhunt pursuit to apprehend them was instituted immediately. It has been about 48 good hours and yet the Kenyan authorities have "absolutely NO clue" as to the events leading to Sen Mutula's demise. This is a high profile investigation which calls for the suspension of whatever what these guys were working on and address this crucial issue. Kenyans are eagerly waiting for the answers because Sen Mutula was a national leader. When our national leaders start dying in such uncalled for ways, then that means we are in for a rude awakening-TROUBLE!! When some kind of leader said that he did not want to be sworn in holding a Bible yet he is not a Muslim, then that meant a whole lot of explanation as to WHY??? Mutula's investigations should start with the house help tracking his route backwards. Where did he stop and what did he consume or drink prior to arriving at his ranch? I hope we will come to the bottom of this matter and justice awarded to Sen Kilonzo Mutula's family and the entire Kenyan community. May he rest in peace, AMEN

The country was Saturday thrust into mourning following the sudden death of Makueni Senator and former Cabinet minister Mutula Kilonzo at his ranch in Maanzoni, Machakos County.

Mr Kilonzo was found dead in bed yesterday at around 11 am by his workers. Brother-in-law Chris Musau, who was the first relative to arrive at Mr Kilonzo’s home, confirmed the death after he was notified by the workers.

Police and medical personnel were called in to investigate what had caused the sudden death that left the family devastated and the country searching for answers.

Mr Kilonzo arrived at the ranch on Friday at around 3 pm as is his routine on most weekends when he does not have engagements that would keep him away. The workers said he was in a jovial mood when he arrived at the ranch driving himself.

“He alighted and went round the flower beds, giving instructions here and there on how the place should look,” a worker said.

He was alone and inspected the ranch before he was served dinner at around 7 pm. The rest of his family lives in Nairobi and the former Education minister visits the ranch regularly.

According to the workers who cannot be named because they were instructed not to speak to the media, the Senator went to bed immediately after dinner. He had been served githeri (a meal of maize and beans) but instead asked to be given roast meat.

He ate alone and then retired for the night. Breakfast was served yesterday morning but the workers noticed that Mr Kilonzo had not touched it at around 10 am which they found unusual.

After calling him out without an answer, they proceeded to his bedroom that had not been locked and found him lying in bed with foam covering his mouth. There was vomit in the sink in his bathroom.

The workers then rushed to call Mr Musau who heads the Maanzoni Lodge located about five kilometres away from Mr Kilonzo’s ranch. On arrival, Mr Musau tried to wake him up but the Senator did not respond.

He then rushed to the hotel where members of the Kenya Medical Association (KMA) were holding a conference and called in doctors who accompanied him back to Mr Kilonzo’s home where they confirmed he was dead.

Family members, close relatives and various leaders were then called with information about the death.

In the afternoon, Mr Musau emerged from the house to brief the media.

“For now all we can confirm is that Mr Kilonzo is dead,” Mr Musau, speaking on behalf of the family, said.

His son Mutula Kilonzo Junior, daughter Kethi Kilonzo and wife Nduku Kilonzo had arrived at the ranch from Nairobi.

Mr Kilonzo’s house was immediately secured by police officers as investigations got under way to establish the cause of the death that shocked the country.

As at 6 pm last evening, Mr Kilonzo’s body was still at his ranch as medical and police investigators got down to establishing the possible cause of death.

The team of doctors included a government pathologist and his personal physician.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, former Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka, Machakos County Senator Johnstone Muthama, Rongo MP Dalmas Otieno, Mavoko MP Patrick Makau and Machakos Town MP Victor Munyaka were among the first leaders to arrive at the ranch.

Mr Musyoka said it was difficult to say what exactly happened.

“We leave it to the team of doctors who have come to work on the body and we hope that they will get down to the bottom of the matter,” he said.

“The death of Mutula has shaken us all and is one of the most unexpected news. It’s hard to say anything,” Mr Musyoka said.

Mr Odinga described the death as a tragedy coming soon after the Senate opened its door for business where Mr Kilonzo served.

He revealed that he had lunch with Mr Kilonzo on Thursday in Nairobi.

“At this moment, speculation is high but we ask Kenyans to remain calm. We in the Cord coalition will do everything possible to make sure that the truth of Mr Kilonzo’s death is told,” he said.

“It is a big loss for the Cord team as Mr Kilonzo was a pillar and central to our operations.”

CID Director Ndegwa Muhoro said the cause of death could not be immediately established but the police would liaise with pathologists to establish what happened.

All the persons who interacted with him last will record statements with the police, Mr Muhoro said.

Later the body was moved to Lee Funeral Home.

“Since the circumstances surrounding the death were not very clear, it was necessary that proper investigations be carried out to establish the cause,” he said.

Police said that a pathologist was called in since he would be better placed to handle the samples to avoid contamination, and conduct preliminary investigations at the scene.

According to the pathologist, Dr Johansen Oduor, who was at the home, the body had no marks of physical injuries. Dr Oduor collected samples from the bedroom and the sink and later escorted the body to Lee Funeral Home.

He Blessed us and demanded that we be Responsible at rendering services cordially in harmony and in a balance share fairly gifts of God. Through our hard work and in pain, we shall enjoy the fruits of happiness on earth; but, God warned us to beware and watch out on the devil, the wicked evil one who come to steal, kill and destroy. Margaret, this is the reason why I cannot relax secluded in my corner.

We have a job to do. We are not in judgement, like Tebiti has put it so aptly, "There are lots of explanation lingering" why the Government is slack and slow to act in the investigation of Sen. Kilonzo Mutula. There are lots of lose evidence in the public place that provide for lead to investigation instead of leaving the world in suspense. These are clear leads that are causing panic and serious speculation to the general public and the world. We want to know what the Government did with the information Mutula put to the Parliament and the security he was given when he complained about his life with that of his family being in danger. These are leads the Government must come clean about.

These are reason I feel Mutual was not given his obligated rights for security and protection. Could these be reasons for dilly dallying of getting to the bottom of what happened, what did the intelligence get, what could have possibly led to circumstantial foaming found on his mouth, what was the state of the body when found, who could have been the first suspects, why was he sad, sorrowful and remorseful the previous evening when he met with coleagues at Parliament and so on and so forth, summary of which he was found by his death-bed.

These are preliminary issue-based details the public want to know in order they can trust governments' investigative process to ascertain trust. But the way things are, and the way the situation is handled by the security is suspicious and worrisome.

Because of excessive corruption, organized terrorists, threats also including Land Grabbing and Human Rights crime, violation and abuses in Kenya, we are very worried and anxious that Kenya and Kenyans are not safe under the corrupt police and political cover-ups. It is the reason why many more lives will be targeted and people shall be killed. Considering that we recently lost Saitoti and Ojode with 6 occupants in Chopper, we shall not take this matter easy.

We are not going to give the Government's political agents a soft carpet intimidate and oppress people through fear-factors mafia tactics. This world does not belong to a few special interests, but to all of us. To get to the bottom of our pain and sufferings, why we are in extreme poverty and have no happiness; we demand for a right to independent investigative experts to be determined and expose the truth for action to be instituted.

Yes it is a huge shock indeed to every peace loving Kenyan. We are yet to come to terms as to how he died in a such painful yet quiet death in his bedroom without anybody hearing when he straggled to get to the birth-tab sick to emit orally. Yes he was by himself, that could be one of the reasons. However, how come our state investigative organs haven't picked any suspect for questioning about his death? Just a few days ago, two bombs were planted at a marathon even in Boston, Massachusetts which exploded killing three innocent bystanders and maimed dozens of hundreds people. It only took a couple of hours to know who the suspects were and a manhunt pursuit to apprehend them was instituted immediately. It has been about 48 good hours and yet the Kenyan authorities have "absolutely NO clue" as to the events leading to Sen Mutula's demise. This is a high profile investigation which calls for the suspension of whatever what these guys were working on and address this crucial issue. Kenyans are eagerly waiting for the answers because Sen Mutula was a national leader. When our national leaders start dying in such uncalled for ways, then that means we are in for a rude awakening-TROUBLE!! When some kind of leader said that he did not want to be sworn in holding a Bible yet he is not a Muslim, then that meant a whole lot of explanation as to WHY??? Mutula's investigations should start with the house help tracking his route backwards. Where did he stop and what did he consume or drink prior to arriving at his ranch? I hope we will come to the bottom of this matter and justice awarded to Sen Kilonzo Mutula's family and the entire Kenyan community. May he rest in peace, AMEN

The country was Saturday thrust into mourning following the sudden death of Makueni Senator and former Cabinet minister Mutula Kilonzo at his ranch in Maanzoni, Machakos County.

Mr Kilonzo was found dead in bed yesterday at around 11 am by his workers. Brother-in-law Chris Musau, who was the first relative to arrive at Mr Kilonzo’s home, confirmed the death after he was notified by the workers.

Police and medical personnel were called in to investigate what had caused the sudden death that left the family devastated and the country searching for answers.

Mr Kilonzo arrived at the ranch on Friday at around 3 pm as is his routine on most weekends when he does not have engagements that would keep him away. The workers said he was in a jovial mood when he arrived at the ranch driving himself.

“He alighted and went round the flower beds, giving instructions here and there on how the place should look,” a worker said.

He was alone and inspected the ranch before he was served dinner at around 7 pm. The rest of his family lives in Nairobi and the former Education minister visits the ranch regularly.

According to the workers who cannot be named because they were instructed not to speak to the media, the Senator went to bed immediately after dinner. He had been served githeri (a meal of maize and beans) but instead asked to be given roast meat.

He ate alone and then retired for the night. Breakfast was served yesterday morning but the workers noticed that Mr Kilonzo had not touched it at around 10 am which they found unusual.

After calling him out without an answer, they proceeded to his bedroom that had not been locked and found him lying in bed with foam covering his mouth. There was vomit in the sink in his bathroom.

The workers then rushed to call Mr Musau who heads the Maanzoni Lodge located about five kilometres away from Mr Kilonzo’s ranch. On arrival, Mr Musau tried to wake him up but the Senator did not respond.

He then rushed to the hotel where members of the Kenya Medical Association (KMA) were holding a conference and called in doctors who accompanied him back to Mr Kilonzo’s home where they confirmed he was dead.

Family members, close relatives and various leaders were then called with information about the death.

In the afternoon, Mr Musau emerged from the house to brief the media.

“For now all we can confirm is that Mr Kilonzo is dead,” Mr Musau, speaking on behalf of the family, said.

His son Mutula Kilonzo Junior, daughter Kethi Kilonzo and wife Nduku Kilonzo had arrived at the ranch from Nairobi.

Mr Kilonzo’s house was immediately secured by police officers as investigations got under way to establish the cause of the death that shocked the country.

As at 6 pm last evening, Mr Kilonzo’s body was still at his ranch as medical and police investigators got down to establishing the possible cause of death.

The team of doctors included a government pathologist and his personal physician.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, former Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka, Machakos County Senator Johnstone Muthama, Rongo MP Dalmas Otieno, Mavoko MP Patrick Makau and Machakos Town MP Victor Munyaka were among the first leaders to arrive at the ranch.

Mr Musyoka said it was difficult to say what exactly happened.

“We leave it to the team of doctors who have come to work on the body and we hope that they will get down to the bottom of the matter,” he said.

“The death of Mutula has shaken us all and is one of the most unexpected news. It’s hard to say anything,” Mr Musyoka said.

Mr Odinga described the death as a tragedy coming soon after the Senate opened its door for business where Mr Kilonzo served.

He revealed that he had lunch with Mr Kilonzo on Thursday in Nairobi.

“At this moment, speculation is high but we ask Kenyans to remain calm. We in the Cord coalition will do everything possible to make sure that the truth of Mr Kilonzo’s death is told,” he said.

“It is a big loss for the Cord team as Mr Kilonzo was a pillar and central to our operations.”

CID Director Ndegwa Muhoro said the cause of death could not be immediately established but the police would liaise with pathologists to establish what happened.

All the persons who interacted with him last will record statements with the police, Mr Muhoro said.

Later the body was moved to Lee Funeral Home.

“Since the circumstances surrounding the death were not very clear, it was necessary that proper investigations be carried out to establish the cause,” he said.

Police said that a pathologist was called in since he would be better placed to handle the samples to avoid contamination, and conduct preliminary investigations at the scene.

According to the pathologist, Dr Johansen Oduor, who was at the home, the body had no marks of physical injuries. Dr Oduor collected samples from the bedroom and the sink and later escorted the body to Lee Funeral Home.

Mutula Kilonzo has died alright, but his memories are still fresh among Kenyans. Last year he threatened he would definitely initiate a motion in the Senate to impeach Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto if they made it to presidency.

“The two must first clear their names with the ICC. Let them face the courts and put up a defence and if, by good luck, they win then they will be at liberty to seek elective office in the land but for now we say no,” he said.

Mr Kenyatta and Mr Ruto had vowed to vie for the presidency despite facing charges of crimes against humanity arising from the 2007-2008 post-election violence.

Frequently Kilonzo warned Kenyans against voting for people with cases at the International Criminal Court, saying the consequences of electing Uhuru Kenyatta or Eldoret North MP William Ruto as Kenya’s fourth president would be grave.

He said the country would be alienated by the international community, making millions of ordinary Kenyans suffer. “The two are facing serious crimes against humanity. They would not pass the integrity test to contest the elections,” he noted.

Mr Kilonzo, who was the MP for Mbooni, said if either of the two leaders became President and if he was elected to the Senate, he would take action to remove them from office.

In late January 2013, Mutula Kilonzo urged parties in Coalition for Reform and Democracy (CORD) to unite or be defeated by the Jubilee alliance hands down on March 4th poll.

Speaking to journalists after presenting his senatorial papers to Makueni returning officer, Mutula said infighting among CORD candidates will weaken the alliance and give their rivals in the Jubilee alliance an advantage in the March 4th election.

Mutula, who was until then the Education Minister, said it was important for all the 14 parties forming CORD to support it to win the elections or be trounced by their Jubilee rivals before noon on March 4th.

In April 11, 2013, Kilonzo differed with President Uhuru Kenyatta over when Cabinet Ministers should leave office.

Speaking at his farewell party organised by staff at Ministry of Education offices where, he previously worked as a Minister, Mutula argued that according to the law, the state officials should only vacate office after handing over to incoming ministers.

Mutula, who seemed sad and depressed after CORD lost the last election, said he had read the constitution to Uhuru and William Ruto team reiterating that it was up to them to decide what to do.

On Wednesday March 20, 2013, Kilonz became the first Minister from Coalition for Reform and Democracy (CORD) to relinquish his post as Education Minister, after the government ordered all Ministers and Assistant Ministers who won various seats in the just concluded elections to resign from the Cabinet.

Addressing journalists at his office in Nairobi, Mutula said he couldn’t wait for President Mwai Kibaki to remind him to relinquish his post as Education Minister.

“I don’t need prompting! I’ve already left the Ministry and I am now waiting to know when the swearing date for Senator is,” Mutula said.

On Thursday November 22, 2012, Uhuru Kenyatta’s party The National Alliance (TNA) said Education Minister Mutula Kilonzo is a “primitive politician” who needs to take a rest in active politics.

Through party’s Secretary General Onyango Oloo, the party told the media that Mutula is trying all the ways to ensure Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto are barred from vying the Presidency but he will not succeed.

“Mutula has been struggling for the last five years to ensure Uhuru is not on the ballot. But thank God his wishes are just mere wishes,” Oloo said.

“He must first clear himself from allegations of tax evasion during the KANU regime and cannot qualify to lecture to the nation on integrity issues,” Oloo added.

On Wednesday Mutula told Uhuru and Eldoret North MP William Ruto that they are International Criminal Court (ICC) jailbirds and they should not vie for presidency in the country.

Raila Odinga termed Mutula’s death a tragedy saying he had been with him 48 hours before his shocking death: “We want to assure everyone that we shall do everything possible to ensure the cause of his death is established and made known.”

An equally shocked President Uhuru Kenyatta said he was saddened by the untimely death of Senator Kilonzo. He described the late Kilonzo as “one of the country’s most brilliant minds, a principled politician and renowned lawyer”.

No doubt the post election politics in Kenya are of interest to the International community for a number of reasons. It will determine the countries relationship with the United States where Barack Obama, a Kenya-American, is the president.

It is clear that elections, corruption, transparency and political participation are perennial challenges facing nearly 1.2billion African Citizens.

The United Nations has one of its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya’s Capital and therefore they have a stake in the future stability of the East African Country.

The forces of nationalism and patriotism among Kenyans have also been responsible for the elections’ outcome, surely an unintended consequence of prosecuting a nationalist of Kenyatta’s stature at International Criminal Court.

The rigged electoral votes for Kenyatta was made to look like votes were cast for Kenyatta by Kenyans in protest of his Indictment by the International Criminal Court, and other western collaborators for crimes against humanity that Kenyatta allegedly committed after the 2007/08 election.

The retired presidents are culprits for killing Kenyans, the genocide that have been executed by this thugs, mafia and mungiki should bee addressed by Kenyans and by the International Community before this retired presidents dies, they have to be taken to court some where not in Kenya because they are corrupt as they buy Kenyan’s Judiciary from Chief Justice, Attorney General and parliament, 80%Congress are in their hands, once red briefcase is lifted up they gung to gather to oppose the International Criminal Courts.

They plan how some innocent or notorious Kenyans can be executed and the government goes free. The system of killings is really working from State House Nairobi successfully.

The killings are done in order to elect those who are the members of the evil clubs. Kenyans are competent with my reports as I have been reporting about the reach Kenyans and the money. I have been giving reports including the time when Jomo Kenyatta took over the leadership. It becomes a usual system as Arap Moi took over the presidency from J. Kenyatta in 1978.

Watch, the leadership of Mwai Kibaki is all about killing innocent Kenyans especially during the 2007/08 Genocide. He is getting away with the two reports from the two commissions. Why can’t former presidents reveal the secrets in the numerous commission’s findings – are the reports kept secret to protect those who were mentioned in these reports.

And now the three presidents have shown Uhuru all the methods to use for killing innocent people. Killing will still continue in Kenya till Jesus comes back, or till some wise Kenyan will have away to set Kenyans free from the bondage of evil.

Kasarani stadium was used to commemorate the day wrangles and fighting professor Saitoti started so that Uhuru Kenyatta would take over from Arap Moi for Kanu to be in power for one hundred years as Moi promised.

Raila Odinga and Professor Saitoti left Kanu party to start new collisions to succeed the Moi Uhuru project. Kasarani stadium was used for Uhuru Kenyatta’s inauguration day to burry Professor Saitoti’s ghost. Kenyans must demand the recorded video’s on the day Moi and Saitoti fell apart for Uhuru Kenyatta to succeed Moi. That’s why Raila Odinga and Saitoti decided to leave Kanu party.

Kenyan’s, it is time to wake up and to work together before this former presidents die. Kenyans must stand straight and demand to know why Saitoti was killed by the presidency’s mafia machinery from State house Nairobi. Killing plans got executed by Moi, Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta. Professor Saitoti was killed because he was more powerful than Uhuru.

Kenyans must demand the tapes that were recorded on the first day Moi, Saitoti and Raila Odinga’s relationship fell apart at Kasarani stadium when Moi declared Uhuru Kenyatta as his project.

Kenyans, remember that after they had executed the late professor Saitoti, Moi took his Crocodile tears to Saitoti’s family house as he did to Dr. Robert Ouko?

Remember, Uhuru Kenyatta and Kibaki contested the presidency one time - both of them are from Kikuyu Land and what happened between Raila and Kibaki was that Raila got in between Kibaki and Uhuru and used the words of only Kibaki is enough (Kibaki tosha). This happened because Raila knew that Uhuru was Moi’s project and by all means, Uhuru was to be rigged in just the same way they succeeded this time round.

Kenyans should know that they are at risk of living with Moi’s Kanu party under Uhuru’s ambrella. Kanu is ruling now, not Jubilee. That’s why Biwott is at a higher smiling point. They used mafia machinery for the successful execution to make rigging as the norm.

The rituals are done by executing prominent Kenyans and Intellectuals while rich people receive red briefcases from Kabarak. Those who got the red briefcase will have to pay back by sacrificing themselves or their family members soon.

Remember, you could be smiling with these mafia people today, and tomorrow, you’ll never know, you may find that you’re in the execution list for the next kill as a sacrifice for riches – blood money.

Kenyans, let’s use the wisdom and the commonsense we were given by God. God wants us to be very careful about things that are not done in his way, hold your Bible with your right hands higher up if you are a true Christian don’t copy the former presidents who never held Bible for the truth but for the evil motives don’t love money too much brothers and sisters you will find your self at sine.

EAST AFRICA LAWYERS CONDEMN KISUMU KILINGS

Lawyers from East Africa have accused police officers of shooting to kill demonstrators in Kisumu over the weekend.

They called for prosecution of the trigger happy police officers towards bringing to an end perpetual shooting of demonstrators using live bullets.

The East Africa Law Society President James Mwamu said firing of live bullets when quelling down demonstrations at the lakeside city must stop.

“We demand an explanation from the police force as the officers seemed to have been given orders not only to shoot but shoot and kill,” Mwamu said.

Mwamu said that several of the civilans who are nursing gunshot wounds at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Provincial Hospital were shot while running away.

“It seems that it is has become a rule in the police force that every time there is demonstration in Kisumu live bullets must be used,” Mwamu said.

The EALS President said that the security officers have in the past five years shot to kill protestors at the lakeside city.

Mwamu was reacting to media reports following demonstrations that rocked parts of Kisumu after the Supreme Court upheld the Presidential election of Uhuru Kenyatta.

Gun shots were heard up to almost midnight as armed police officers dispersed youth from Kondele and chased them to areas such as Nyawita, Obunga and Nyalenda.

“The Constitutional right to life must not be taken for granted and can only be taken away legally,” Mwamu said.

Article 26 of the Constitution provides that every person has the right to life and shall not be deprived of life intentionally except when authorized by the Supreme Law.

“We strongly condemn the shootings in Kisumu that led to the death of two civilians and injuring several others on Saturday evening,” Mwamu said.

The EALS President said that the police must up hold the rule of law arguing that use of excessive force must stop under the new Constitutional dispensation.

KENYA: MY HOMILIY ON PALM SUNDAY

There will be no network where I will be for mass tomorrow so I have decided to send my homily in advance.

Tomorrow is Palm Sunday. It commemorates the triumphal entrance of Christ into Jerusalem. Jesus chose to ride a donkey when he entered Jerusalem instead of a horse which was usually ridden by Kings. He chose the donkey to demonstrate his humility and to fulfill a prophecy in Zechariah 9:9:

“The Coming of Zion’s King Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey”.

Jesus thought of people he served dearly than himself because he practiced humility (Phil. 2:3). Jesus did not only put the well-being of others ahead of their own well-being (Phil. 2:4) but also wanted us to be ministers and servants instead of kings and princes (Matthew 20:25-28).

In other wards, what Jesus wants from us is to be servants instead of masters (Matthew 23:10-12). Jesus was not hypocrite. He always practiced what he preached and preached what he practiced.

Jesus walked on this earth with no place to lay his head, he walked on foot hundreds of miles to preach the gospel, he ate what his disciples ate, he stood in the background, did not advertise himself, he placed other interests above his own, he wrapped a towel around his waist and washed his disciples feet.

Jesus was moved with compassion when he saw crowds of people who did not know God, he was moved with compassion over the plight of an adulterous woman, a widowed bereaved woman whose only son had died, a Samaritan immoral woman, Mary a demon possessed sinful woman, a lying thieving tax collector.

Jesus lived for others, not for himself or his comfort. Many times he was interrupted by crowds on his way to prayer and he took time to give them the good news. He taught his disciples that whoever wanted to be great must be the servant of all, if anyone wanted to be first he must be the slave of all.

Though the word of God gave him the right to be supported financially and fed through his ministry, he gave up this right and worked and toiled and even helped others with his sweat. Instead of walking on a red carpet he decided to walk on palm branches placed in his path, before his arrest on Holy Thursday and Crucifixion on Good Friday.

He gave an example of two men who went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee, standing by himself, was praying thus, 'God, I thank you that I am not like other people: thieves, rogues, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of all my income.'

But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even look up to heaven, but was beating his breast and saying, 'God, be merciful to me, a sinner!' I tell you, this man went down to his home justified rather than the other, for all who exalt themselves will be humbled, but all who humble themselves will be exalted." (Luke 18:10-14)

And when the hour came for him to dine at table with his Apostles he took the cup, he gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide among you”. And he took bread, he gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them saying, “This is my body given for you, do this in remembrance of me” (Luke 22:14-23).

It demonstrates that Eucharistic celebration is not only a symbol of unity but also as one people of God should divide the little things we have as a community justly. In other wards we should not allow the seeds of tribalism and nepotism to be planted in us.

When we come together to celebrate the Eucharist we express who we are as Church. The liturgy, especially the Eucharist, "is the outstanding means whereby the faithful may express in their lives and manifest to others the mystery of Christ and the real nature of the true Church" (Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, 2).

Pope John Paul II explains the Roman Catholic position regarding intercommunion in his encyclical letter on ecumenism, That All May Be One. He says that Vatican II's Decree on Ecumenism (#22-23) "pointing out that the post-Reformation Communities lack that 'fullness of unity with us which should flow from Baptism.

He observes that 'especially because of the lack of the Sacrament of Orders they have not preserved the genuine and total reality of the Eucharistic mystery,' even though 'when they commemorate the Lord's Death and Resurrection in the Holy Supper, they profess that it signifies life in communion with Christ and they await his coming in glory' (#67).

We see these seeds of tribalism and nepotism planted among early Christians (Acts 6). “In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food”.

So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”

This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism. They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them.

So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith. These good leaders destroyed these seeds of tribalism and nepotism what was being planted in the people.

Those who did not want these seeds of tribalism and nepotism destroyed accused Stephen of insulting other tribes and so they tried to kill him all the times he condemned leaders who only favoured their tribes and relatives when it came the time of distribution of common cake.

Now Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, performed great wonders and signs among the people. Opposition arose, however, from members of the Synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called)—Jews of Cyrene and Alexandria as well as the provinces of Cilicia and Asia—who began to argue with Stephen. But they could not stand up against the wisdom the Spirit gave him as he spoke.

Then they secretly persuaded some men to say, “We have heard Stephen speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God.” So they stirred up the people and the elders and the teachers of the law.

They seized Stephen and brought him before the Sanhedrin. They produced false witnesses, who testified, “This fellow never stops speaking against this holy place and against the law. For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and change the customs Moses handed down to us.” All who were sitting in the Sanhedrin looked intently at Stephen, and they saw that his face was like the face of an angel.

On behalf of News Dispatch and my own I would like to send my condolences to the priests, Christians, religious, family and relatives of Bishop Akio Johnson Mutek, Bishop of Torit following his death at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi on Sunday night and was laid to rest on Friday March 22, 2013.

Mutek who was also my college mate at Fordham University in Bronx, New York was rushed to the hospital in Juba in Nairobi as a result of serious kidney complications. Mgr. Mutek was 55 years old and had undergone two kidney transplants in India.

Mgr. Mutek was ordained a priest on December 18, 1988, and appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Torit on May 18, 1999. He was ordained a Bishop on August 15, 1999 and appointed Bishop of Torit on June 9, 2007. He worked closely with People for Peace in Africa, the organization I worked with for 13 years.

May Almighty God rest his soul into eternal peace-AMEN.

Tanzania: Religious conflict flare ups in Zanzibar as Muslim and Christians go for each other’s throat following the torching down of churches in the Isles

INFORMATION emerging from the Tanzania’s commercial capital, Dar Es Salaam say investigations into the recent killing of a Catholic priest and the blowing up of a church in Zanzibar are pointing to an act of religious intolerance orchestrated by Muslim fundamentalists.

These attacks being linked to the recent infiltration of the Al-Shabaab terror group into the hitherto peaceful and politically stable United Republic of Tanzania.

This has emerged as local journalists have established that the government of Tanzania has called in security intelligence officers from the US and the UK to help it track down the killers of Evarist Munishi.

A church still under the construction in the largely Muslim archipelago of Zanzibar was set on fire within only 48 hours after the priest’s murder.

The police sources in Dar Es Salaam said that Father Munishi way was blocked by two young men at the entrance of the church compound who shot him at the close range in the head killing him instantly.

The Zanzibar shooting came barely a week after the religious attack that saw the killing of Mathayo Kachili of the Assembly of God church in Geita Region. The slain pastor was beheaded by Muslim extremists on the Tanzanian mainland as religion tensions increase between the Christians and the Muslims.

Local investigators are said to be in constant touch with those of the United States to exchange information related to the murder, including whether it was carried out by the homegrown terror outfits, having links across the border or by terrorists based in neighboring countries.

Local media have quoted Bishop Obeid Fabian, head of Zanzibar Pastor’s Fellowship as saying that churches in Zanzibar had in recent months appealed to the government to step up security, especially for pastors working on the Muslim majority Island.

But nothing much has been done. The Bishop said it was unfortunate that over seven Christian churches had been burnt down while the Isles government had not arrested anyone in connection with the violence.

The Tanzania National Security Council last week ordered the government security agencies to immediately negotiate with foreign security intelligence agencies over the killing of the Catholic Priest.

The US Ambassador to Tanzania Alfonzo Lenhedent was last week quoited as saying that the State Department in Washington DC ready to lent the Tanzanian government some assistance as it needed.

Neighbors Kill Neighbors as Kenyan Vote Stirs Old Feuds

MALINDI, Kenya — In a room by the stairs, Shukrani Malingi, a Pokomo farmer, writhed on a metal cot, the skin on his back burned off. Down the hall, at a safe distance, Rahema Hageyo, an Orma girl, stared blankly out of a window, a long scar above her thimble-like neck. She was nearly decapitated by a machete chop — and she is only 9 months old.

Ever since vicious ethnic clashes erupted between the Pokomo and Orma several months ago in a swampy, desolate part of Kenya, the Tawfiq Hospital has instituted a strict policy for the victims who are trundled in: Pokomos on one side, Ormas on the other. The longstanding rivalry, which both sides say has been inflamed by a governor's race, has become so explosive that the two groups remain segregated even while receiving lifesaving care. When patients leave their rooms to use the restroom, they shuffle guardedly past one another in their bloodstained smocks, sometimes pushing creaky IV stands, not uttering a word.

"There are three reasons for this war," said Elisha Bwora, a Pokomo elder. "Tribe, land and politics."

Every five years or so, this stable and typically peaceful country, an oasis of development in a very poor and turbulent region, suffers a frightening transformation in which age-old grievances get stirred up, ethnically based militias are mobilized and neighbors start killing neighbors. The reason is elections, and another huge one — one of the most important in this country's history and definitely the most complicated — is barreling this way.

In less than two weeks, Kenyans will line up by the millions to pick their leaders for the first time since a disastrous vote in 2007, which set off clashes that killed more than 1,000 people. The country has spent years agonizing over the wounds and has taken some steps to repair itself, most notably passing a new constitution. But justice has been elusive, politics remain ethnically tinged and leaders charged with crimes against humanity have a real chance of winning.

People here tend to vote in ethnic blocs, and during election time Kenyan politicians have a history of stoking these divisions and sometimes even financing murder sprees, according to court documents. This time around, the vitriolic speeches seem more restrained, but in some areas where violence erupted after the last vote the underlying message of us versus them is still abundantly clear.

Now, the country is asking a simple but urgent question: Will history repeat itself?

"This election brings out the worst in us," read a column last week in The Daily Nation, Kenya's biggest newspaper. "All the tribal prejudice, all ancient grudges and feuds, all real and imagined slights, all dislikes and hatreds, everything is out walking the streets like hordes of thirsty undeads looking for innocents to devour."

As the election draws nearer, more alarm bells are ringing. Seven civilians were ambushed and killed in northeastern Kenya on Thursday in what was widely perceived to be a politically motivated attack. The day before, Kenya's chief justice said that a notorious criminal group had threatened him with "dire consequences" if he ruled against a leading presidential contender. Farmers in the Rift Valley say that cattle rustling is increasing, and they accuse politicians of instigating the raids to stir up intercommunal strife.

Because Kenya is such a bellwether country on the continent, what happens here in the next few weeks may determine whether the years of tenuous power-sharing and political reconciliation — a model used after violently contested elections in Zimbabwe as well — have ultimately paid off.

"The rest of Africa wants to know whether it's possible to learn from past elections and ensure violence doesn't flare again," said Phil Clark, a lecturer at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. "With five years' warning, is it possible to address the causes of conflict and transfer power peacefully?"

Spurred on by Kenyan intellectuals and Western allies, Kenya has overhauled its judiciary, election commission and the nature of power itself. Dozens of new positions, like governorships and Senate seats, have been created to ensure that resources flow down more equitably to the grass roots, an attempt to weaken the winner-take-all system that lavished rewards and opportunities on some ethnic groups while relegating others to the sidelines.

But in places like the Tana River Delta, where the clashes between Pokomos and Ormas have already killed more than 200 people, the new emphasis on local government has translated into more spoils to fight over. And there are nearly 50 governor races coming up across Kenya, many of them quite heated.

"The Orma are trying to displace us so we can't vote," said Mr. Bwora, the Pokomo elder. "They have burned our villages, even our birth certificates. How are we supposed to vote then?"

The Orma accuse the Pokomos of doing precisely the same thing, right down to the burning of birth certificates.

On the national stage, two of Kenya's most contentious politicians — Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto — are running on the same ticket for president and deputy president. Both have been charged by the International Criminal Court with crimes against humanity stemming from the violence last time. Mr. Kenyatta, a deputy prime minister and son of Kenya's first president, is accused of financing death squads that moved house to house in early 2008, slaughtering opposition supporters and their families, including young children.

He could quite possibly be elected Kenya's next president and find himself the first sitting head of state to commute back and forth from The Hague, potentially complicating the typically cozy relationship between Kenya and the West.

There is a growing perception among many members of Mr. Kenyatta's ethnic group, the Kikuyu, and Mr. Ruto's, the Kalenjin, that they must win this election in order to protect their leaders from being hauled off to a jail cell in Europe, which is raising tensions even higher.

Most analysts here feel this election will be turbulent, though some argue it will not be as bad as last time.

"Things are different," said Maina Kiai, a prominent Kenyan human rights advocate. For instance, he noted, it was the Kikuyu and Kalenjin who fought one another in the Rift Valley in 2007 and 2008, but now many members of those two groups are on the same side because their leaders have formed a political alliance.

"There may be new arenas of violence," Mr. Kiai said. "But I don't think the extent of violence will be the same."

There is also a keen awareness of how much there is to lose. The Kenyan economy flatlined after the turmoil of the last election. But now it has recovered mightily, spawning a dizzying number of new highways, schools, hospitals, malls, wine bars, frozen yogurt stores, even free samples in the supermarket — evidence of Kenya's position on this continent as home to a deep and booming middle class.

Many nations in this region depend on Kenya, as demonstrated by the economic chaos caused downstream during the last election when mobs blockaded Kenya's highways and sent fuel prices spiking as far away as the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Another safety valve may be the courts, which are now considered much more independent, one of the biggest achievements since the last election. Kenya's new judiciary is led by a former political prisoner and widely respected legal mind, Willy Mutunga, the chief justice, who said he was threatened this week.

The hope is that if any election disputes arise between Mr. Kenyatta and the other front-runner, Raila Odinga, Kenya's prime minister, who says he was cheated out of winning last time, Justice Mutunga will step in — before people on the streets do.

But the Tana River Delta remains a blaring red warning sign, and there have been suspicions that political figures are deliberately fanning old disputes, in this case over land.

One leading Pokomo politician, who was an assistant minister, was recently arrested and accused of incitement, though the case was soon dropped. The allegation echoed the International Criminal Court cases, which assert that behind the ground-level mayhem in 2007 and 2008 were political leaders who incited their followers to kill for political gain.

Up and down the crocodile-infested Tana River, Pokomo and Orma youth are now patrolling the banks with spears and rusty swords. The result is a grim, sun-blasted tableau of ethnically segregated but parallel villages mired in the same poverty, misery and fear.

The News Dispatch with Omolo Beste take this opportunity to be in solidarity and prayers with our pals from Zambia following the death of 53 people killed in one of the worst traffic crashes in the nation in recent history according to officials.

The news just reaching The News Dispatch with Omolo Beste says that a bus operated by Zambia’s postal service carrying passengers toward its capital Lusaka smashed into a semi-truck and another car Thursday, killing at least 53 people. The crash happened Thursday morning near the town of Chifamba, about 100 kilometers (60 miles) north of Lusaka according to police spokeswoman Elizabeth Kanjela.

Kennedy Sakeni, Zambia’s information minister, said at least 53 people died in the crash, while another 22 had been taken to local hospitals. A sport utility vehicle also was involved in the crash, he said.

Zambia Postal Services runs the bus routes throughout the country, carrying passengers and mail through the nation of 13 million people in southern Africa.

The crash Thursday represented one of the worst for Zambia in recent years. In April 2005, a truck packed with high school students skidded off a mountain road in northern Zambia, killing at least 38 and seriously injuring another 50.

Condolences: The Late Fred Osodo

Fellow Kenyan,

Happy New Year.

It is with sorrow and grief that I notify you of the demise of Fred Osodo.

Fred passed on, on the 30th December 2012 at his rural home in Rusinga after he was stabbed to death by a neighbour when he intervened in a quarrel between his brother and the neighbour's son. Peacemaker turned victim.

Until his death, Fred worked in Kigali with Karisimbi Business Partners as a Financial Analyst and was a member of AKR.

He will be laid to rest on Sunday January 13th 2013 at his rural home in Rusinga.

Friends are meeting daily starting today 7th January 2013 from 6.00 pm at Foeyes Premier Hotel for funeral arrangements. There will be a fundraising on Wednesday 9th January 2013 at Foeyes from 6 pm.

“I am honoured to be with you today at your commencement from one of the finest universities in the world. I never graduated from college. Truth be told, this is the closest I’ve ever gotten to a college graduation. Today I want to tell you three stories from my life. That’s it. No big deal. Just three stories.

The first story is about connecting the dots.

I dropped out of Reed College [Portland, Oregon] after the first six months, but then stayed around as a drop-in for another 18 months or so before I really quit. So why did I drop out?

It started before I was born. My biological mother was a young, unwed college graduate student, and she decided to put me up for adoption. She felt very strongly that I should be adopted by college graduates, so everything was all set for me to be adopted at birth by a lawyer and his wife. Except that when I popped out they decided at the last minute that they really wanted a girl. So my parents, who were on a waiting list, got a call in the middle of the night asking: “We have an unexpected baby boy; do you want him?” They said: “Of course.” My biological mother later found out that my mother had never graduated from college and that my father had never graduated from high school. She refused to sign the final adoption papers. She only relented a few months later when my parents promised that I would someday go to college.

And 17 years later I did go to college. But I naively chose a college that was almost as expensive as Stanford, and all of my working-class parents’ savings were being spent on my college tuition. After six months I couldn’t see the value in it. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and no idea how college was going to help me figure it out. And here I was spending all of the money my parents had saved their entire life. So I decided to drop out and trust that it would all work out OK. It was pretty scary at the time, but looking back it was one of the best decisions I ever made. The minute I dropped out I could stop taking the required classes that didn’t interest me, and begin dropping in on the ones that looked interesting.

It wasn’t all romantic. I didn’t have a dorm room, so I slept on the floor in friends’ rooms, I returned Coke bottles for the 5¢ deposits to buy food with, and I would walk the seven miles across town every Sunday night to get one good meal a week at the Hare Krishna temple. I loved it. And much of what I stumbled into by following my curiosity and intuition turned out to be priceless later on. Let me give you one example:

Reed College at that time offered perhaps the best calligraphy instruction in the country. Throughout the campus every poster, every label on every drawer, was beautifully hand calligraphed. Because I had dropped out and didn’t have to take the normal classes, I decided to take a calligraphy class to learn how to do this. I learned about serif and sans serif typefaces, about varying the amount of space between different letter combinations, about what makes great typography great. It was beautiful, historical, artistically subtle in a way that science can’t capture, and I found it fascinating.

None of this had even a hope of any practical application in my life. But 10 years later, when we were designing the first Macintosh computer, it all came back to me. And we designed it all into the Mac. It was the first computer with beautiful typography. If I had never dropped in on that single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts. And since Windows just copied the Mac, it’s likely that no personal computer would have them. If I had never dropped out, I would have never dropped in on this calligraphy class, and personal computers might not have the wonderful typography that they do. Of course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college. But it was very, very clear looking backwards 10 years later.

Again, you can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.

My second story is about love and loss.

I was lucky – I found what I loved to do early in life. Woz [Steve Wozniak] and I started Apple in my parents’ garage when I was 20. We worked hard, and in 10 years Apple had grown from just the two of us in a garage into a $2bn company with over 4,000 employees. We had just released our finest creation – the Macintosh – a year earlier, and I had just turned 30. And then I got fired. How can you get fired from a company you started? Well, as Apple grew we hired someone who I thought was very talented to run the company with me and for the first year or so things went well. But then our visions of the future began to diverge and eventually we had a falling-out. When we did, our board of directors sided with him. So at 30 I was out. And very publicly out. What had been the focus of my entire adult life was gone, and it was devastating.

I really didn’t know what to do for a few months. I felt that I had let the previous generation of entrepreneurs down – that I had dropped the baton as it was being passed to me. I met with David Packard and Bob Noyce and tried to apologise for screwing up so badly. I was a very public failure, and I even thought about running away from the valley. But something slowly began to dawn on me – I still loved what I did. The turn of events at Apple had not changed that one bit. I had been rejected, but I was still in love. And so I decided to start over. I didn’t see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life.

During the next five years, I started a company named NeXT, another company named Pixar, and fell in love with an amazing woman who would become my wife. Pixar went on to create the world’s first computer-animated feature film, Toy Story, and is now the most successful animation studio in the world. In a remarkable turn of events, Apple bought NeXT, I returned to Apple, and the technology we developed at NeXT is at the heart of Apple’s current renaissance. And Laurene and I have a wonderful family together.

I’m pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn’t been fired from Apple. It was awful-tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it. Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith. I’m convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You’ve got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.

My third story is about death.

When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: “If you live each day as if it was your last, some day you’ll most certainly be right.” It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “no” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.

Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything – all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.

About a year ago I was diagnosed with cancer. I had a scan at 7.30 in the morning and it clearly showed a tumour on my pancreas. I didn’t even know what a pancreas was. The doctors told me this was almost certainly a type of cancer that is incurable and that I should expect to live no longer than three to six months. My doctor advised me to go home and get my affairs in order, which is doctor’s code for “prepare to die”. It means to try to tell your kids everything you thought you’d have the next 10 years to tell them in just a few months. It means to make sure everything is buttoned up so that it will be as easy as possible for your family. It means to say your goodbyes.

I lived with that diagnosis all day. Later that evening I had a biopsy, where they stuck an endoscope down my throat, through my stomach and into my intestines, put a needle into my pancreas and got a few cells from the tumour. I was sedated, but my wife, who was there, told me that when they viewed the cells under a microscope the doctors started crying because it turned out to be a very rare form of pancreatic cancer that is curable with surgery. I had the surgery and I’m fine now.

This was the closest I’ve been to facing death, and I hope it’s the closest I get for a few more decades. Having lived through it, I can now say this to you with a bit more certainty than when death was a useful, but purely intellectual, concept:

No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because death is very likely the single best invention of life. It is life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but some day not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And, most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

When I was young, there was an amazing publication called the Whole Earth Catalog, which was one of the bibles of my generation. It was created by a fellow named Stewart Brand not far from here in Menlo Park, and he brought it to life with his poetic touch. This was in the late 1960s, before personal computers and desktop publishing, so it was all made with typewriters, scissors and Polaroid cameras. It was sort of like Google in paperback form, 35 years before Google came along: it was idealistic, and overflowing with neat tools and great notions.

Stewart and his team put out several issues of the Whole Earth Catalog, and then, when it had run its course, they put out a final issue. It was the mid-1970s, and I was your age. On the back cover of their final issue was a photograph of an early morning country road, the kind you might find yourself hitchhiking on if you were so adventurous. Beneath it were the words “Stay hungry. Stay foolish”. It was their farewell message as they signed off. Stay hungry. Stay foolish. And I have always wished that for myself. And now, as you graduate to begin anew, I wish that for you. Stay hungry. Stay foolish.

KENYA: ODM YOUTH IN URIRI WHO IS THE BROTHER OF THE FORMER AREA MP IS KILLED IN MYSTERIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES AND HIS BODY DUMPED IN A DAM

Police in Uriri district are actively investigating the circumstances which led to the grisly murder of the younger brother of the former area MP the late |Herman Odhiambo Omamba.

The body of Joshua Omamba aged about 35 years was fished out of a dam near Ayiego Center in North Kanyamkago Location, Uririr district, Migori County.The body had a deep cut at the back of the head and multiple knife stabs all over.

The area Chief Milton Obote told this writer that they suspected the killing to be as the result of long standing family feuds. And at the same time it could be as the result of love-triangle as the deceased is suspected to have picked a quarrel with one of his younger brothers a few days earlier who he was suspecting of having an affair with his wife,

THe deceased's younger brother is also an aspirant for the North Kanyamkago Katieno Ward County Representative seat.

The area D.C, George Lagat could not be reached immediately for comment. However, the killing has attracted wholesale condemnation of nearly all political leaders in Uriri including parliamentary aspirants

Among those who expressed concerned and urged the government to beef up the security in the area is Martin Owiny who is vying for Uriri seat current held by Cyprian Ojwang’ Omolo.

The elders in the area have also cautioned the parliamentary aspirants in the area to desist from the bad habit of feeding rowdy youths with “Chang’aa’.

The incident occurred on the night of December 27, 2012 when the deceased failed to return homer from the chang"aa drinking dens near Ayedo Chief's camp. So far no arrest has been made in connection with the killing of the deceased who was an ODM operative in the areas.

The Hidaya Mosque bomb blast in Eastleigh Nairobi may be a spill over of Wednesday's bomb explosions and shootings between Islamists and Government authorities in the autonomous region of Puntland in North-East Somalia which left 31 killed or wounded.

Members of the Puntland clans are heavily represented in the Hidaya Mosque congregation in Nairobi.

The impassable conditions of the Eastleigh roads which are in a terrible state are a security nightmare.

Of the three routes to Eastleigh, two end up on the adjacencies of the former bus garage where massive road constructions are under way and driving is well nigh impossible.

The best route is the one rebuilt through ADB funding and passes Juja Rd before making a right turn into First Avenue. This side of Eastleigh bordering Pangani and the Mathare slums is favourites with bomb and grenade throwers for it is easier to speed away in a getaway car.

The Kamukunji MP has been demanding in Parliament tighter security measures and has criticised the lack of a police station in the vast sprawling Eastleigh area.

The absence of tarmac roads is a serious impediment to effective policing. The roads are muddy and only the most determined can dare walk through the heavy mud and dirty water.

HOW TRIBALISM STUNTS KENYAN DEMOCRACY

To be honest with my fellow Kenyans, I like the politics of Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua. She is determined to go it alone to realise her presidential ambition when other presidential aspirants go it tribal, not learning from political violence which soon took on an ethnic dimension after Kenya's disputed 2007 elections.

The concern here of course, is no longer the stranglehold of autocrats, but the hijacking of the democratic process by tribal politics despite the fact that Kenya's 2007-08 post-election violence revealed the extent to which tribal forces could quickly bring a country to the brink of civil war.

As some commentators have argued, the challenge to democracy in Kenya is not the prevalence of ethnic diversity, but the use of identity politics to promote narrow tribal interests. It suggests that every ethnic community should have its own territory, which reinforces ethnic competition.

Kenyan leaders often exploit tribal loyalty to advance personal gain, parochial interests, patronage, and cronyism despite the fact that tribes are not built on democratic ideas but thrive on zero-sum competition.

As a result, they are not only inimical to democratic advancement, but have also played a major role in tribal conflict across Kenya. Against the background that leaders of the different opposition parties are primarily focused on pursuing their tribal interests rather than uniting around a common political programme.

Kenyans have also been made to believe that president can only be elected when tribes unite together. They do not even know the manifesto of political parties they are voting for. This is because the opposition parties were unable to find common ground through coherent party manifestos.

The manifestos are generally issued late because much of the effort goes into building tribal alliances, even though the new constitution of Kenya seeks to address the issue of ethnicity by ensuring that a president needs broad geographical support to be elected, where a winner must receive more than half of all the votes cast in the election and least 25 percent of the votes cast in each of more than half of the country's counties.

But tribal leaders are clever and calculating.

Party manifestos are fundamentally documents in which parties outline their principles and goals in a manner that goes beyond popular rhetoric. They arise from careful discussion, compromise, and efforts to express the core values and commitments of the party.

That is why building clear party platforms requires effective intellectual input, usually provided through think-tanks and other research institutions. Most Kenyan political parties lack such support and are generally manifestos cobbled together with little consultation.

They are not built on ideologies on a philosophy or set of principles that underlies a political programme. Most political parties in Kenya do not consist of the shared beliefs, attitudes, and assumptions that cause a certain group of people to join together and develop and advocate specific political programmes.

They are not built on such ideologies. That is why they do not aim at the good of the community which should be more important than the interests of individuals. As a result they are not founded on a belief in progress and tolerance of difference, a belief that that society should be unified and stable.

Political party should be a vehicle for citizens sharing a common political agenda in which the members, not the leaders, are the foundation and the reason for the party’s existence and not a “talking shop.” Its mission should be action-oriented: to develop policies, sell them to the electorate, and win power in elections.

Political party that members can demand more accountability from their leaders and even become party leaders themselves- make a contribution to the overall development of responsible citizenship.

Political party which is interested in the welfare of the nation, not the welfare of its own members or supporters only-based on this ideology then it becomes only a political faction whose aim is to advance the restricted interests of its members whether or not such interests promote the common good.

Kenya: ODM Mashinani campaign in Kisumu marred by violence as man is killed after Nyand rally

News Analysis By Leo Odera Omolo In Kisumu City.

WITH only 100 days to go before the next general elections are held on March 4, 2013 ignals of discontent and violent political wrangling seemed to be emerging from most parts of Luo-Nyanza,the worse being within the two counties of Kisumu and Homa-Bay.

In Nyando district within Kisumu County, the police were reported to be actively investigating the cause of death of a man whose body was fished out of the thicket after he was allegedly assaulted by the youth supporting the rival political camp after he was alleged to have tried to disrupt a campaign rally in the area by heckling the speakers, which sparked off the fist fighting.

The deceased whose name was given as Omuoyo from Kanyilum sub-clan within Wawidhi B area of South East Kano is said to have bee involved in fracas with supporters of the area MP Fred Outa. The youths are said to have set themselves upon the deceased with crude weapons.

The area MP Fred Outa is among the leaders aid to have spent several hours recording statements with the police with the police following the incident.

In the neighboring Nyakach also within Kisumu County, scores of people sustained minor bodily injuries following the outbreak of fighting at the ODM Mashinani campaign rally held at Pap-Onditi Center in lower Nyakach.

The trouble was sparked off following the late arrival at the meeting venue by on of the aspirant for Nyakach parliamentary seat Aduma-Owuor a former senior legal 0fficer of the City Council of Nairobi.

This was accompanied by dozens of drunken youth. However, Aduma Owuor was ushered in and given a seat at the dais as one of the aspirants. But his youth were not lucky to be accorded similar treatment by the conveners of the rally. The youth tried to force their way into the venue thereby st8iring up the commotion as the made an attempt to disrupt the sitting arrangement which had been made earlier.

This what sparked off the commotion and protest by the ODM youth manning the meeting, and controlling the crowd. At this juncture the fighting broke out wit plastic chairs flying out in all direction. The combatants also used other missiles and objects sending the participants scampering or their dear lives. One civic leader Omdi Ouko was beaten up to the ground.

Peace was temporarily restored, but no sooner did another aspirant for the Nyakach parliamentary aspirant Eng.Evans Kodera arrived in the company of shouting youths. They two were roughed by the ODM youths, most of them beaten to the ground.

Several candidate aspiring for the various elective positions with the County governance attended the meeting among them Aloys Ager who is contesting the Sigoti County Ward, Grace A. Akumu {parliament}, Ms Ruth Adhiambo Odinga {governor}, Dr Barrack Abonyo from the US {governor} Ojwang’K’Ombudo{governor].

Meanwhile several politicians in Homa-Bay have bitterly complained about the slow path it taking the police Rachuonyo South district to apprehend the suspects criminal who are supposed to be facing serious criminal charges of causing grievous harm related to violent assault incident which occurred in the lakeside town awe ago following the violent disruption of ODM Mashinani held there two weeks ago.

The police in Oyugis have yet to apprehend any of the suspects despite of a requesting letters from their Homa-Bay counter parts who have recorded statements from the complainants and potential prosecution witnesses in the serious criminal cases pending there.

The two suspects who are believed to have used the sharpened knives in stabbing several people during the fracas Homa-Bay are said to be still roaming freely in Oyugis town and its environs.

KENYA: KISUMU ROCKED BY VIOLENT PROTESTS OVER KILLING OF ODM POLITICIAN.

Relative calm has returned to Kisumu City after two days of violent riots by angry protesters who trooped to the streets demonstrating against the killing of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party chairman Shem Onyango Kwega by armed assailants on Monday.

But even as uneasy calm was restored, Raila Odinga's ODM party which still enjoys huge following in the country was calling on the government to conclusively investigate the motive of the killings and immediately bring to book those who are suspected to have gunned down Kwega, who was a prominent businessman and an influential Nyanza politician.

The party's Secretary General Prof Peter Anyang' Nyongo' while addressing a press conference in Nairobi after the Monday incident described the slain politician as a hard working official whose invaluable contributions as the ODM chairman for Kisumu Town West constituency will be greatly missed.

The Monday morning shooting sparked off violent protests throughout the town paralyzing business and transport activities as his supporters and angry residents stormed Kisumu Central police division demanding immediate transfer of police chiefs in the City accusing them of laxity.

However the two day protests ended tragically with three people amongst them two women being burnt to death. The deceased persons reportedly sheltered at the shop to escape the wrath of anti riot policemen who descended on the demonstrators with batons and lobbying teargas canisters to quell the violent riots.

The fire at the shop which left the three dead was said to have been started by the police teargas but the authorities were quick to dismiss this assertion claiming it could have been as a result of an electrical fault.

Several people believed to have been shot by the police during the riots were said to be receiving treatment in various hospitals within the town where they were admitted.

The slain politician and his wife Rose Onyango were accosted by two gun men in their youths who blocked their car just moments after a breakfast meeting at a Kisumu hotel along Nyerere road at around 10 am.

The daring gangsters used a motorbike to lay the ambush but later took off in an escape car which they hijacked from a nearby car wash after the attack.

According to the police, Kwega was fatally shot twice on the head from close range and another bullet fired by his attackers pierced through his chest. His wife was also shot in the chest while trying to shield her husband and is currently fighting for her life at Aga khan hospital in Kisumu.

While those protesting the killing termed it an assassination, the police has dismissed the theory claiming it was purely a criminal attack.

Nyanza police boss Joseph Oletito yesterday dispelled the rumors of a possible assassination attack saying the two gangsters made away with sh 1.2 million from the victims.

He said the police were pursuing the assailants and promised that soon they would be arrested . But new wave of attacks and violent crime has left every Kisumu resident worried stiff.

In a span of less than a month, over five people have reportedly been killed by armed criminals who appears to have taken over control of the city literally with most people wondering whether the police are overwhelmed.

A security guard was found dead at the Kisumu's SDA Victory church last week. The police said an estimated sh 200,000 offertory and other church valuables was stolen.

The same day , a pupil was found murdered and a headless body dumped at one of the estates in the City a few meters away from the church where the guard was killed in cold blood.

Reports of yet another chilling attack was made in the City when a top HIV and AIDS researcher at Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) was hacked to death as he tried to gain access to his Tom Mboya residence.

And Kisumu continued to record deaths occasioned by criminals when a director of a security firm was reportedly waylaid and killed last night near Uzima University College.

It is shocking that despite the increased attacks by armed criminals, the police who appears to have been caught napping are yet to nab any of the suspects reigning terror on the lives of innocent tax payers of the beautiful lake side City.
