RE: The New African Leader

David,

Nice to know there are watchmen out there. The thing I know about watchmen is that they look out for the ordinary folks. They keep the marauding hyenas from ravaging the sheep. Right? So when you turn your fire on the sheep and let the hyenas get away with the carcases of the sheep they pounced on earlier, how are you not like the hyena? Look, it’s true that the the events of December 2007 were started earlier than that date. The implosion was a result of years of shenanigans by successive administrations that did nothing to address some of the most pressing issues facing the folks. What some of us are trying to do is making sure present and future presidents are held accountable for their actions.

For example, if I scream at the top of my voice about the Grand Regency being sold by the same cabal that stole the elections and is intent on ruling by impunity, you call that incitement? If I say were it not for Kalonzo Musyoka Kibaki would not have gotten away with his theft, is that incitement? And if I say that Prime Minister Odinga stands tall in the way he’s handled himself, is that incitement? At what point are facts incitement to you, sir? The danger with people like you is that you want a society where evil is rewarded with quietness or indifference. What I’m telling people like you is…not in this day and age.

You’ll notice that Akinyi thinks I’m a sycophant of Raila’s. Let me state that if I were, I wouldn’t regret it. Not right now at least. Because so far, Prime Minister Odinga has proven himself to be a man worth emulating in politics. What quarrel do you have with integrity, with vision and with pragmatism, sir? And what causes you pain when we say that we’ve looked around and made a judgement that of all the politicians who’ve glided across the political sphere in Kenya, the Hon. Odinga has come the closest to the ideal? If you are going nuts because you think I’ve called the Prime Minister a saint, drink some Kool Aid and read my articles again. Here is my point. On a scale of one to ten, you place Kibaki, Moi, Mugabe, Kenyatta, Siad Barre, Kaguta Museveni and the rest of the autocrats at a three; you place Odinga and Jakaya Kikwete at a seven or eight. Don’t the facts support that placement? Or do you operate strictly inside a blind spot? For your own sake, I hope not.

So, my friends, take it easy. Your fight is with those who have our African nations on their knees, unless you are one of them. If you are, expect fire from me and those who think like I do. You may choose to pray for men like Mugabe and Kibaki, you may even offer a sweet smile as you plead for reconciliation like my friend Tom Owiti would…or you may call for that reconciliation while letting the tyrants know we won’t take their crap no more.

At what point do you say enough is enough?

Have a good weekend.
