City mayor picked after deal

A three-day impasse over Nairobi’s mayoral election was resolved on Wednesday through a power-sharing deal between PNU and ODM councillors.

In the agreement, ODM councillor, Mr Godfrey Majiwa, became the mayor. His rival, PNU’s Mr John Chege of Kasarani Ward, became his deputy.

The parties also shared 16 committees. A PNU councillor will chair the crucial Finance and Planning Committee, while ODM will chair Water and Education Committees, among others.
