Bunge La Mwananch: Press Conference today!

Thank you for supporting the story of the urban poor who graced the streets of our city in a protest march against the food crisis.

We invite you to a press statement to be issued by Bunge La Mwananchi and its network organization at the Professional Centre Room 1, today Friday 6th June, 2008 at 2 p.m.

Since the disruption of the solidarity march against unchecked rising food prices and the subsequent arrests and the detention of various Bunge La Mwananchi members, the police continue to threaten and harass our members.

The police have pitched camp and literally taken over the Bunge La Mwananchi’s meeting place – Jeevanjee Gardens. Any Bunge La Mwananchi member is arrested on sight and held overnight without any charges being preferred against him only to be released in the morning- case in point is Hassan Indusa and Fredrick Abok who were arrested at Jevanjee and held seperately at the Central and Kamukunji police stations respectively.

In light of this, following the issuing of a press statement as abovementioned, Bunge La mwananchi and its network organizations will be holding a consultative meeting amongst its grass root network leadership to agree on how to move attention on food crisis forward and expand the awareness raising on existing grave social imbalance.

We look forward that you can participate in amplifying the voice of struggling Kenyans.

Thank you,

George Nyongesa
