Point of no return: The massive climate threats we must avoid

From: Yona Maro

The world is quickly reaching a Point of No Return for preventing the worst impacts of climate change. Continuing on the current course will make it difficult, if not impossible, to prevent the widespread and catastrophic impacts of climate change. The costs will be substantial: billions spent to deal with the destruction of extreme weather events, untold human suffering, and the deaths of tens of millions from the impacts by as soon as 2030.

Emissions are already out of control. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA) global CO2 emissions increased by 5% in 2010 for the largest recorded absolute increase, and went on to grow by over 3% in 2011, exceeding worst-case projections that would lead to 5°C to 6°C of long-term warming.

The 14 dirty energy projects in this report range from massive expansion of coal mining in China, to large-scale expansion of coal exports from Australia, the US and Indonesia, to the development of risky unconventional sources of oil in the tar sands of Canada, in the Arctic, in the ocean off the coast of Brazil, in Iraq, in the Gulf of Mexico and in Kazakhstan, and to gas production in Africa and the Caspian Sea. They are the biggest dirty energy projects planned in the coming decades.

Kenya: The return of the former Rangwe firebrand MP Dr Shem Ochuodho may soon witness the formatin of a new major political party in Luo-Nyanza to put the ODM in constant check

Reports leo Odera Omolo

This month’s general election has seen the sudden return into political limelight of the former firebrand Rangwe MP Dr. Shem Ochuodho.

Dr Ochuodho a genius computer engineer represented Rangwe constituency in Homa-0Bay district between 1997 and 2002.He had won the seat on an NDP ticket beating the late Mrs Phelgona Okundi of KANU in a controversial election battle which saw the two ending up before a court of law on charges of assault and causing damages to property.

The charges landed Ohuodho in jail in Kisumu in Kodiaga Prison for a month before he was released on appeal.

Thereafter Ochuy 0odho and Raila Odinga parted the company. And the two became bitter rivals The computer scientist could not stomach the culture of political worshipping, which is normally ascribed by Raila close Lu0 supporters.Tips led to a series of bloody violence battle with between his supporters in Homa-Bay town and a group of hired political goons ferried in Nissan vans from Nairobi to Homa-Bay town ready to cause mayhem.

Prior to the 2002 general election, Raila Odinga had formed an alliance with the apologist and wealthy Eng.Phillip Okoth Okundi who had served the KANU regime in various capacities as KPA MD and also the MD of Kenya Broadcasting Corporation and finally the Kenya Bureau of the Standards as its MD.

After losing the Rangwe seat to Okundi, Dr Ochuodho was appointed the MD of the Kenya Oil Pipeline Company, a parastatal where he worked briefly before leaving in huff. He then joined the Rwandan government in Kigali as ICT consoltuant for close to three years before returning home and engaged in business as a consultant.

And until very recently, Dr Ochudho was an ICT adviser to the South Sudan government based in Juba. It was in Juba where the head of Safina party Paul K Mute fished Dr Ochuodho last month and made him is running-mate in the just concluded presidential race in Kenya.

The pair, however, made very little impact in the just concluded Presidential contest,-perhaps due to lack of preparation and sufficient logistics, but the exercise brought Dr Ochuodho back into political limelight as he was able to bring Paul Kabugi Muite to many interior parts of Luo-Nyanza in their joint hunt for votes.

Rumors making the round in Homa-Bay and its environs says Dr Ochuodho and a good number of intellectuals in various parts of Southern Nyanza would soon launch a major and second largest political party to rival Raila Odinga’s ODM following its last month flawed and poorly managed primary nominations exercises in the region./

Dr Ochuodho is a highly respected leader, particularly in the greater old

Empowering and Protecting Consumers in the Internet Economy

From: Yona Maro

The aim of the paper is twofold: i) to present developments and progress made in enhancing trust and consumer engagement in e-commerce since the Seoul Declaration; and ii) to point policy makers to possible further work to address some key ongoing and emerging consumer challenges. The spread of mobile devices, easy-to-use payment mechanisms, as well as participative web tools such as price and product comparisons and consumer ratings and reviews has further provided consumers with a more convenient e-commerce experience. Trust in e-commerce, however, remains challenged by a number of problems requiring further attention. These include complex information disclosures, legislative gaps, fraudulent and misleading practices and privacy threats as well as inadequate redress mechanisms.

World Ultra Wealth Report 2012 – 2013

From: Yona Maro

Global recovery continues to display signs of weakness. Heightened Eurozone financial market and sovereign distress, stuttering recovery in the U.S. and softer than expected growth in major emerging market economies are the main drivers behind the IMF’s recent adjustment of its forecast for global growth downwards to 3.5% for 2012 and 3.9% for 2013. The two main assumptions that the forecast is founded upon are policy action in the Eurozone that allows financial conditions to ease gradually and recent monetary policy changes in emerging market economies gaining traction.

The continual recurrence of financial market distress leading to sovereign distress and bailout packages that provide temporary relief in the Eurozone heightens the potential for uncontrolled default and Euro exits. Both these scenarios will have a severe impact on global economic growth prospects and wealth growth.

This report is an analysis of global developments and trends in wealth and ultra wealthy populations for 2012 to 2013 based on Wealth-X’s proprietary research.

EAC plans is targetimg multibilion dollsrs tourist revenujre in the year 2020

Writes Leo Odera Omolo

The East African community member states have lined up several projects to increase tourism earnings from the current USD 7.billion to USD16 billion annually.

Sources at the Arusha based secretariat of the EAC have quoted top officials as saying that the plan is aimed at doubling the number of tourists visiting the bloc from 5 million to 10 million annually.

The planned investments are expected to cost USD 3.95 billion by the year 2020 up from the present USD 1.65 billion.

THe envisaged projects include the introduction of a single tourist visa, a single passport, classification of hotels, increased marketing spend and training of personnel’s in the hospitality industry.

The EAC ministers responsible for tourism are expected to hold a meeting before the end of June, this year to discuss the establishment of the single tourism visa and hotel classification in the member states.

Frustration is growing among the business people over delays in pushing through key projects like opening up the regional airspace, rolling out a single passport and visa, the elimination of non-tariff barriers {NTBs}

They claim the delay in implementing the EAC Common Protocols are slowing the expansion of tourism, trade and business envisaged by the protocol.

EAC Principal Tourism Officer Shedrack Mashauri said the bloc plans to negotiate with the regional airlines like the Rwandair and the Kenya Airways to increase the connecting of flights across the region.

Nearly 60 per cent of tourists budgets goes into air tickets. This money could remain in the region, if we had well established local airlines with strong connection into local market,”said Mashauri, adding that such arrangements would also be made with the international airlines.

According to the plans, a tourist would apply and pay for a visa fee in any of the five member states of Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Brundi and South Sudan, and thus visa would be applicable for travels to all the countries in the region, thus necessitating a proper revenue sharing formula.

It is anticipated that issuance of a single of a single EAC visa and passport will not only ease the movement of people across the region, but significantly boost the regional drive to promote the bloc as a single tourist destination.

Plans are also underway to harmonize policies and have standard training and certification, particularly the tourist guides and hoteliers.

“We want tourists to stay longer in the region, hoteliers and tour guides will be required to be committed to exceeding tourists expectation with great customer service and highest degree of professional ethics,” said Mashauri.

The classification of the hotels is nearly six years overdue said to be due to financial constraints. But the executive secretary oif the Association of Tanzania tour operators ang guide has assured the stakeholders that the matter would be resolved soon.

Tanzania: Religious conflict flare ups in Zanzibar as Muslim and Christians go for each other’s throat following the torching down of churches in the Isles

Writes Leo Odera Omolo

INFORMATION emerging from the Tanzania’s commercial capital, Dar Es Salaam say investigations into the recent killing of a Catholic priest and the blowing up of a church in Zanzibar are pointing to an act of religious intolerance orchestrated by Muslim fundamentalists.

These attacks being linked to the recent infiltration of the Al-Shabaab terror group into the hitherto peaceful and politically stable United Republic of Tanzania.

This has emerged as local journalists have established that the government of Tanzania has called in security intelligence officers from the US and the UK to help it track down the killers of Evarist Munishi.

A church still under the construction in the largely Muslim archipelago of Zanzibar was set on fire within only 48 hours after the priest’s murder.

The police sources in Dar Es Salaam said that Father Munishi way was blocked by two young men at the entrance of the church compound who shot him at the close range in the head killing him instantly.

The Zanzibar shooting came barely a week after the religious attack that saw the killing of Mathayo Kachili of the Assembly of God church in Geita Region. The slain pastor was beheaded by Muslim extremists on the Tanzanian mainland as religion tensions increase between the Christians and the Muslims.

Local investigators are said to be in constant touch with those of the United States to exchange information related to the murder, including whether it was carried out by the homegrown terror outfits, having links across the border or by terrorists based in neighboring countries.

Local media have quoted Bishop Obeid Fabian, head of Zanzibar Pastor’s Fellowship as saying that churches in Zanzibar had in recent months appealed to the government to step up security, especially for pastors working on the Muslim majority Island.

But nothing much has been done. The Bishop said it was unfortunate that over seven Christian churches had been burnt down while the Isles government had not arrested anyone in connection with the violence.

The Tanzania National Security Council last week ordered the government security agencies to immediately negotiate with foreign security intelligence agencies over the killing of the Catholic Priest.

The US Ambassador to Tanzania Alfonzo Lenhedent was last week quoited as saying that the State Department in Washington DC ready to lent the Tanzanian government some assistance as it needed.

Kenya: President Obama’s controversial half-brother in Kenya in tussles with the authorities over the American and Kenyan flags which he had hoisted on top of his business premises.

From: Arrum Tidi
Writes Leo Odera Omolo

The US president Barrack Obama’s half brother in Kenya, Malik Abong’o Obama, has defiantly and flagrantly refused to lower the American and Kenyan national flags which are currently flying side by side on top of his private business premises in Siaya County.

Several attempts by government officials failed to convince Malik Obama to remove the two flags which he had hoisted on the roof of his private business. The matter has baffled many security personnel and local in the region.

A police source has hinted that the matter is being referred to the Public Prosecution department of the judiciary department for further action..

The officials and police were baffled when Obama hoisted the two flags at the entrance of his tourist class guest house which he had established in the memory of his father Barrack Obama Snr.

Malik Obama is currently embroiled I n a cut-throat election campaign battle for the Siaya County governorship. He is contesting the election as an independent candidate. Local pundits, however, maintained that Obama stand in chance of clinching the guberimental seat due to his lone ranger character.

The trouble started when the Siaya region police Chief Stephen Cheteka checked at the Guest House and ordered the two flags to be lowered on argument that the place was not a state institution. Instead he drafted a harsh letter to President Mwai Kibaki. Was loaded with numerous complaints on why a junior state officer would visit his premises unannounced and interfere with his constitutional rights.

“The step to hoist both flags show patriotism. I am very proud of both American and Kenyan national flags..I feel anyone has the right to hoist follow my footsteps,” Malik said.

observers, keen on the development of the flags dispute pitting Malik Obama and the police and members of the Provincial Administration on the other hand have been left guessing after the move compelling him to do away the two flags flying on the top of his business premises.

It was also learnt at the weekend that Malik Obama recently sacked the entire staff at his Obama Guest House four months ago.

Crocodiles feeds on fish, but in the absence of sufficient number of fish in the lake for its feeding it can resort to hunting down human beings and domestic animals for prey..

An American who fell in love with Kenya and its people is planning for a big international forum in Nairobi in the year 2016

Writes Leo Odera Omolo In Kisumu City

Please find attached is our official News Release in a PDF format. Please note that we live in the 21st Century and News Releases are no longer written words, we now use both Multi-Media and Social Media to promote change and ideas in the world. We created this document in format that goes not only to the Kenyan Media, this document should go directly to the people of Kenya. We both know what happen in the “Middle East” with the “Arab Spring.” Social media can bring change in the world. In order for Africa to move into a 21st Century paradigm we must use “Social Media.”

Let me explain a very important concept to you. We are asking the “Republic of Kenya” to honor its “African/American Family” with a “Formal State Reception.” State Receptions are only given to Heads of State.

[placeholders for 3 images]

In the history of Africa and African/Americans being taken as “slaves to America” not African country has ever offered “African/Americans a Formal State Reception.” A formal State Reception has to come from and be agreed upon by both the U.S. and Kenya State Departments. It is one thing to give a “Head of State” a Formal State Reception but how do you give African/American people a “Formal State Reception.?” This means that the total Republic of Kenya government and people must format a way to honor its “African/American Family.”

Please note that I have taken groups to Kenya for over a decade and I understand both Kenya and America and I am an expert in this area. I have an above average background regarding Kenya’s culture and history. Please understand that travel to Kenya will be long and grueling and beyond the usual travel time that most Americans have experienced. We have to look at “Jet Lag” and a way to promote such an event. We must develop a comprehensive “marketing strategy” that will attract 1000’s of African/Americans to Kenya.

For the record we have created a “Brand Name” for the event. The most noted African word in the English Language is “SAFARI.” It was American writer Earnest Hemingway that introduced the word Safari into the English language. The Kenyan Government must officially expand the meaning of the word “SAFARI” We give its many acronyms.

We have 5 major components as a way to promote the event. We must make the event a spiritual movement.

1. The Safari Home Coming Celebration is the story of the Prodigal Son. Preachers worldwide will relate Africa’s Children coming home to the “Prodigal Son” in the Bible

2. The event will start in Memphis, Tennessee. Memphis is important because Memphis was once the “Slave Capital of the World.” Symbolically the Children of Africa come from Memphis, Tennessee to Kenya.

3. Dr. Martin Luther King was Killed in Memphis and this event honors Dr. King’s Legacy by us bringing the gauntlet of Dr. King to Kenya

4. This event connects and completes the Legacy of Tom Mboya. Tom Mboya went to America to help Kenya students. That connects started by Mboya brings African/Americans home to Kenya.

5. Kenya is the home of Barack Obama Sr. and all African/Americans must travel to the Ancestry home of America’s President Barack Obama Sr.

Rev. Otura it is urgent that the Kenyan Government and the Kenyan people officially agree to honor its African/American family. Once the agreement is agreed upon we will take 3 years to plan and promote the celebration. We will have so many jobs to do to promote the event. When it comes to the area of the “Christian Faith” we expect you to tell the story that only such a celebration is from “God.” Rev. Otura since you and I connected you and other Kenyan ministers will visits 100’s of churches in America to tell them to come home to Africa. We must develop our website so that anyone in America can simple look on their Cell phone and see videos of the event. Since the event will take place in Kenya’s “High Season” Kenya will not have enough Hotel Rooms.

Such an event will be like the Olympics and it takes a lot of planning and infrastructure. South Africa has better “infrastructure” for such an event. Outside of Nairobi many areas cannot accommodate many African/Americans. Such an event will change the culture of Kenya.

Rev. Otura I would like to thank you for you help. Prior to our going to Kenya we can do a lot of the preliminary work out of the way. We must meet with every Airline that travels from America to Kenya to work out “Budget Travel packages.” We must make the trip affordable to 1000’s of people who could not otherwise travel to Africa.

The most Important Factor

The most important element to the “Safari Homecoming Celebration” is the Barack Obama factor. We must get the date and agreement signed so that President Barack Obama Jr. can officially put the event on his calendar. Because the Kenya State Department and American State Department will sign an official Historic Agreement this will allow President Obama to officially come to Kenya and be the Key note speaker. Please note that in July of 2016 the President will only have 6 months left in office. Hillary Clinton will be running for President. Since this event will be on the “World Stage” Hilleary Clinton may attend the event. Many American legislators will come from America. Because some many American legislators will be in Kenya all African leaders will be at the event.

When you add up African leaders, Church leaders, The President Kenya will not have enough hotel rooms. We will need tents and need camps to support this event. President Obama will come to Kenya. President Obama loves Kenya and he will come to Kisumu.

I think that I have written enough. I think you understand how urgent and important the work we are doing. Now is the time for you to return home to assist in promoting this event. You must stand on stage with President Obama.

Making a Difference Through Geothermal Energy

From: Yona Maro

In this International Year of Sustainable Energy for All, it is important to recognize that energy is a prime driver of economic development, and access to energy has direct positive impacts on the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Inadequate access reduces societies’ opportunities for meeting the basic needs provided by energy services and opportunities for gainful employment.

Africa: THREE YEARS DOWN THE LINE SINCE THE LUSAKA DECLARATION OF THE ICGLR SPECIAL SUMMIT ON THE FLIGHT OF ILLEGAL EXPLOITATION OF NATURAL RESOURCES IN THE GREAT LAKES REGION HAS YET TO BE IMPLEMENTED.

News Analysis By Leo Odera Omolo

The Great Lakes Region is one of Africa’s richest region in terms of natural and human resources. However, it remains largely impoverished and its political, social and economic development has been hindered by conflict and absence of the rule of law.

It was in response to the regional conflicts that countries in the region, under the auspices of the United Nations and then Organization of African Unity decided to form the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region {ICGLR} .

Last week, the regional leaders signed a deal aimed at bringing peace and stability to the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo with plans to reinforce a UN-led mission to combat rebels activities in the region after years of unrest.

Eleven countries in the Great Lakes region – including rebel groups – signed on to the accord at a ceremony in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa in the presence of the UN Secretary General Psan Ki-Moon

The entire region is hoping that this time the accord such an accord will hold its waters, after many similar agreement brokered before collapsed even before the ink dried up. D. R. Congo has remained unstable nation in Africa ever since it attained its political independence from its former colonial masters the Belgium in June 1960.

On December 15th, 2010, Heads of State and governments of Member States of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region {ICGLR} gather in the Zambian capital, Lusaka

The summit passed far-reaching 19 resolutions dabbed The Lusaka Declaration. However, these resolutions which formed the part of the Lusaka Declaration have remained ineffective and no signs of implementation Ha been put to practical work.

LEO OIDERA OMOLO, A veteran Kenyan journalist who attended the Lusaka summit in this two parts analytical article is examining what has since become of the Lusaka Declaration.

The main theme at the Lusaka Summit was “The Problem of illegal |Exploitation of the region’s natural resources.”

The problem of illegal exploitation of natural resources spans the mining sector and trade in valuable minerals of the region which perniciously deprives the region of vital resources of revenue so much required by social and economic development. These resources can create greater prosperity for the member countries, but ii used poorly, the wealth will cause economic instability, conflict and environmental degradation.

It was with these special challenges sand special opportunities in the mind of the leaders of the Great Lakes Region that they resolved at the Lusaka Summit to mobilize existing technical expertise, human resources and their political goodwill under the auspices of the ICGLR to fight against illegal exploitation of natural resources being one of the ways of transforming the region into a space of peace and stability and socio-economic development.

In attendance at the Lusaka Summit were President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos {Angola} Denis Sassou Nguesso {he Republic of Congo Brazzaville}.Pierre Nkrunzinza{Burundi}.Joseph Kabila Kabange {DR Congo} Jakaya Mrisho Kikweteb {anzania}, Rupiah B Banda {Zambia} oweri Kaguta Museveni {Uganda}, (mar Hassan Ahmed Bashir {Sudan} Mwai Kibaki {Kenya}, Francois Bozize {Central African Republic}.

The 19 resolutions were as follows: We, Heads of State and Member States of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region [ICGLR} who gathered in Lusaka, are concerned about the persistent illegal exploitation of natural resources in the Great Lakes Region and its linkage to the proliferation of small arms and light weapons, financing of armed groups and perpetuation of crimes against humanity.

We, are aware of the need to streamline the activities of local, regional and multinational actors involved in the exploitation of natural resources.

We, are cognizant of the commitment, mutual trust and cooperation in the implementation of the Pact on Security, stability and development of the Great Lakes Region.

We are, recalling the decision of the Mini-Summit held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on 1 February 2010, in which the ICGLR Secretariat and the Democratic of the Congo [DRC}government are urged to organize a Special Summit to address the issues related to illegal exploitation of natural resources in the Great Lakes Region;

We, are deeply concerned about the negative impact of the illegal exploitation of natural resources which deprives states of resources needed to fight poverty and aggravates environmental degradation.

We are fully aware of the economic conflicts and persistent insecurity caused by armed groups and the Great Lakes Region financed through the illegal exploitation of natural resources and trade in minerals, in particular gold, Colombo-Tentalite, Woliranite and Cassiterite and concerned about the negative impact these armed groups have had on the population in the region including crimes against humanity, and massive violation of human rights such as sexual and gender based violence.

Please watch for the second instalment.

Web Index 2012

From: Yona Maro

Although the Web has been an important catalyst of social, political and economic change over the past two decades, its impact – both negative and positive – has been unevenly felt both within and across countries. Moreover, there is relatively little public debate on the reasons why some countries have moved faster and more effectively than others to harness the Web as an accelerator of development.

To begin to address this gap, the Index combines existing secondary data with new primary data to rank countries according to their progress and use of the Web. The Index is both an analytical tool for researchers and a resource for policy makers in various sectors, including the public sector, private sector, and NGOs.

The Web Index is a composite measure that summarizes in a single (average) number the impact and value derived from the Web in various countries. There are serious challenges when attempting to measure and quantify some of the dimensions the Index covers (e.g. the social and political), and suitable proxies are used instead. Also, as the Web Index covers a large number of countries, some of which have serious data deficiencies or were not covered by the data providers.

Fishing business activities in lake Victoria has resumed in earnest after the dreadful water hyacinth weeds was blown off by current and strong winds

Writes Leo Odera Omolo In Homa-Bay Town.

FISHING business activities has resumed in earnest after the current and strong winds swept away the water surface of Lake Victoria leaving it clean.

The stakeholders and those involved in fish mongering business as well as thousands of fishermen operating in the rake were on Wednesday this week seen preparing their boats and other fishing gear in readiness to re-deploy them on the lake.

The menace of the water hyacinth weeds did not only hampered the fishing activities, but also blockaded the water surface and even ships steamers and all vessels plying the region, especially those ferrying cargoes and shop-good between the eastern shore of Kisumu pier to neighboring countries like Uganda, Rwanda and Northern Tanzania had come to virtual the last seven months.

The worse hit areas were along the shorelines of the Nyanza Gulf {formerly Kivirondo Gulf covering Bondo, Rarieda, Seme, Kisumu, Nyando, Nyakach, Rachuonyo North and Homa-Bay.

The weed had blocked the lake water making the navigation of steamers and even fishing boats impossible. On two occasions, the government was urgently summoned to avail police helicopter to come to the rescue of fishermen whose boats were stranded in the lake for several days without food or water for drinks.

This happened near Soklo Island ,which is just located a few kilometers outside Homa-Bay town and in Karabondi area in Karachuonyo east.

The invasion of water hyacinth weeds in the last seven months had hampered the fishing activities and has sent the price of fish skyrocketing. Close to 50,000 fishermen are operating inside the Kenyan side of the second largest water mass, which is shared between Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

A good number of fishermen had abandoned their trade and quit the trade in search of green pasture elsewhere. The fishing industry is the mainstay of the economy of the region, coming only second to sugar cane farming.

Experts say that there are close to 4000 fishing boats operating in Nyanza Province and the industry is supporting close to 3 million people, especially those living close to the shorelines of the lake.

The Kenyan fishing communities stretches from River Sio and Rwambwa areas Busia, Busia district and covered the widest area which included the two Nyakach, Nyando, Seme in Kisumu County , Raried and Asembo, Yimbo, Mageta Islands, Oyamo Island, in Uyoma peninsula in Siaya County and,,Gwassi, Mbita, Rachuonyo, Rangwe, in Homa-Bay County, and also small portion of Nyatie in Migori County.

Statistics recently made available by the fisheries department of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment moderately indicated that Kenya is raking in Kshs 13 billion annually in foreign exchange as the results of its export of the highly prized Nile Perch filets to the Middle East, Japan, Israel, EU and the US.

Residents of Nyanza Provnce, however, have appealed to the government to find the lasting solution to the menace of water hyacinth weeds.

It could be either removed by mechanized means or manually by hired youths the same way the Ugandan government has done.

A recent report released by the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute revealed that the number of fishermen and fish landing sites in Nyanza Province has decreased and reduced drastically in a span of two years.

The report released in Kisumu two weeks ago indicated that fishing landing sites decreased from 324 in 2010 to 311 last year due to the menace caused by the water hyacinth on Lake Victoria.

It also send a warning signal about the dwindling stock of fish in the lake due to over-fishing, the use of illegal fishing methods

The problem is blamed squarely on lack of protection of fisheries resources and corruption by those assigned the duty of protecting it by the relevant Ministry.

IN CONGRESS, NOVEMBER 21, 2009
THE UNANIMOUS DECLARATION
OF THE INDEPENDENCE/THE REPUBLIC OF THE 55 SOVEREIGN STATES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AFRICA

Theophile Leyamalakoyoh Yockot
President of Congress

IN CONGRESS NOVEMBER 21, 2009

THE UNANIMOUS DECLARATION OF THE INDEPENDENCE/REPUBLIC OF THE 55 SOVEREIGN STATES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AFRICA

WE THE NATIVE AFRICANS AND THE PEOPLE of the United States of Africa have natural rights and international sovereignty to freely determine our own future and the future of our posterity. Also we have the rights to reunify Africa and to ordain and establish the sovereign independent and indivisible Republic and State of the United States of Africa.

When God created humanity, all human beings are created free, equal and independent in a wonderful earth in which all people will live a happy life. The gift of freedom and the right to life given by God established universal respect for all human kind. This includes the civilization, family, historical origin, race, color, sex and the age. In fact, the refusal for any world government to recognize these natural and modern human rights we force today to establish an absolute separation with the oppressors, pillagers, invaders, violators, tyrants, dictators and those who support them in their inhuman, cruel, greedy, criminality, evils and uncivilized governments and leaders and also to establish the Republic of the United States of Africa.

We, the native Africans and the people of the United States of Africa, own our life and hold these truths to be absolute evidence and a declarative to God and to the whole world that ALL human beings are created free, equal, and independent. However, with different opinions and talents, among these rights are life, freedom, liberty, justice, equality, peace, and the pursuit of happiness. To protect and promote these rights, democratic governments and societies are established with the consent of the people through their representatives. But when any form of government becomes oppressive, dictatorial, and/or destructive, it is the right and power of the people to democratically abolish it and establish a new government based on democratic principles, policies, respect for humankind and human dignity and prosperity for all Africans.

A Government for the People.

BUT, when a perpetual machine of abuses and violations affect our life, development, safety, happiness, peace, and the future of human beings as a free people by God, we have the power and right to change the form of government, international cooperation and relations, and provide a new security for African people, our families and our future. Such has been the long patient suffering of the natives and people of African countries, and such is now the necessary to end all forms of dictatorship, oppression, destruction, inhuman, evils and cruelty in African governments and in illegal international cooperation.

The history of dictatorships, monarchical, greedy and cruel Western European governments, and leaders of France, United Kingdom of Great Britain, China, Italy, The Netherlands (Dutch), Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Russia, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Austria, Hungary, Sweden, Norway, United States of America, United Nations, World Bank, International Monetary Fund as well as the history of dictatorships, monarchical greedy and cruel governments and leaders of African countries have led to the total establishment of cruel and tyrannical powers. These absolute atrocities have led to repeated human suffering and abuses upon natives and free people of Africa.

In Order to Support Our Declaration of Independence, Here Is A Presentation of Evidence of Absolute Atrocities and Abuses by World Powers and African Governments

1. The inhuman and illegal colonial treaties and accords signed especially since 1400 not beneficial to African people or governments. Those treaties do not allow fair trade economic and social development or cultural and political advantage for Africans. Those illegal treaties establish an absolute and total power of western European governments and leaders on African governments, presidents and people. They establish and promote tyranny, wars, corruption, ethnic conflicts and violence, injustice, inequality, dictatorship, poverty and human suffering in Africa.

2. The illegal and undemocratic African constitution and declaration of independence written by 1957 by greedy and cruel Western European governments and leaders and United Nations establish the concentration and centralization of powers in the hand of one person who later will become a dictator and despot. The concentration and centralization of powers establish poverty and ethnic conflicts, division and violence, injustice, inequality, dictatorship, authoritarian, oppression and undemocratic governments and leaders and human suffering for all Africans.

3. The lack of sovereignty in African countries. There is no freedom and human rights afforded to the people. No written constitution or declaration of independence for the national agenda. Africa has been too dependent on inhuman and uncivilized Western European governments and leaders.

4. The lack of a balance of powers between the president and elected officials.

5. There is no open market or a central bank for the government to function economically, which has attributed to the devaluation of African currency and value.

6. Illegal military and economic debts owed to foreign countries and institutions.

7. High international taxes and tariffs.

8. Inflated costs for imported goods forced by international banks.

9. Lack of private ownership of property in Africa by Africans.

10. Isolationism of all Africa and its people.

11. African resources are not owned or operated by Africans but by Western European governments, China, Russia and other countries for their self-enrichment.

12. International supplies of illegal weapons to rebels and warlords by Western European and United States government as well as multi-national corporations.

13. Illegal assassination and imprisonment of leaders trying to create stability in African countries.

14. Dictatorships supported by Western European, United States and the United Nations.

15. Ignorance and greed of educated Africans and military in cooperating with the raping of the African society and economy.

16. The lack of scholars and the intelligence for offering a real plan to stabilize African governments.

17. Lack of national, provincial, local budgets, institutions, and governments.

18. Lack of laws and policies protecting African people.

19. Lack of a viable infrastructure to support any national African economic and development system.

20. The lack of democratic and economic institutions and reforms to carry out social, cultural and economic programs.

21. The lack of separation and balance of power, check and balance, decentralization and transparency between national, provincial and local governments. Also between the President, governors, mayors and prefects.

22. The lack of presidential, executive, legislative and judicial powers.

23. The lack of world democratic organization at United Nations to promote global democracy and prosperity.

24. The global dependency of African nations on Western European, United States and the U.N., IMD, World Bank, etc.

25. The total concentration of power in the hands of dictators (African Presidents).

26. The United Nations does not recognize African countries and its people as being independent and free people but as private properties of Western European governments and leaders

27. The lack of civilized leadership in African countries.

28. The lack of common African currency and economic markets to promote development.

29. The lack of constitutional and democratic powers and duties assigned to elected officials (legislators).

30. Today in Africa, more than 50 million people and children have died because of wars, poverty, ethnic violence, conflicts, and preventable diseases. More than 800 million people and children leave with $1 Afro/dollar a day and do not have any future.

31. There is extreme human suffering and poverty in Africa and all over the world in black communities that need change because all human beings are equal and have the right to live better lives.

32. Political, social, and economic systems established in Africa by greedy Western European governments and leaders, through dictatorships and illegal declarations of independence and illegal constitutions have divided and destroyed millions of African families. Separated parents to their children created a parking of millions of orphans, unemployed and suffering people and children. These same dictatorships, oppressed and destructive governments and leaders have established an extreme despaired society in which the real solution is the immediate establishment of one African federal, democratic and republican state and government, the United States of Africa with the main purpose to end poverty, human suffering, wars, ethnic violence and disease throughout the establishment of republican, democratic, federal, state and local democratic governments, societies, institutions, organizations and reform.

33. More than $700 billions of African money have been stolen by its leaders, their families, their entourage, Western European governments and multinational corporations and are deposited in European, Chinese, and American banks.

34. During 600 years of Western European colonization and post-colonization, oppression, slavery, apartheid, illegal cooperation, tyranny and pillage of the African continent, more than $930.8 trillion has been collected through illegal exploitation of human and natural resources, fraud, customs, taxes, misuse of funds and has been transferred to world banks, industrialized nations of Europe, International Monetary Fund, USA, and China today.

35. All Western Europeans, United Nations, and Chinese government and leaders to maintain African presidents in power and human suffering in Africa have established military bases and an army of mercenaries in African countries to wage wars against poor and innocent natives and people of Africa. They pretend that African countries are former European colonies. People of African countries are natives of Africa not former European colonies.

36. Millions of Africans are separated from their families, children, and continent by international inhuman and cruel immigration law.

37. Every day, thousands of African immigrants, desperate and suffering, abandon their families and children and risk their lives, are jailed or die, trying to reach the United States or Western Europe where they believe they can find a better life or freedom.

38. During six hundred years of Western European colonization and post-colonization in Africa, African people and countries have been paying taxes to Western European governments, without representation in their Parliaments.

39. Today, Western European governments have established a new policy in which African Presidents are replaced by their sons and daughters.

In every street and district of African countries there is human suffering, oppression, dictatorship, poverty, unemployment, bloody wars, ethnic conflicts, humiliation, servitude and undemocratic societies. African people and leaders for change have launched democratic campaigns and called for change and reminded the United Nations and inhuman and cruel Western European, African and Chinese governments and leaders about our suffering. They have refused to recognize and reestablish our full rights as Native Africans, human beings and free people.

By declaring our total separation today, we want to hold them and the rest of the world accountable for human rights abuses, long suffering, tyranny, dictatorship and crime against humanity.

We, therefore, as native Africans, the people and representatives of the United States of Africa assembled in the Continental Congress, in the City of Los Angeles, District of Crenshaw, in the Democratic Republic of the United States of America, appealing to God, the Supreme Judge of the World, our judgment and decision as free and good people of these United States of Africa to ordain and establish a sovereign, legal, free, independent, representative, Democratic, Federal, Republican and Indivisible Republic, State and government of the United States of Africa with separation and balance of powers, checks and balances and total division and decentralization of powers, government and institutions. We the native Africans and the people and representatives of the United States of Africa, in order to end poverty, human suffering, the wars, violence against families, women and children, refugees, famine, ethnic conflicts, illegal domination, unsafe, inhuman, and cruel conditions of the people, human rights abuses, undemocratic government and leaders, tyranny, oppression, abuse of power, monarchical regimes and illegal international cooperation, dictatorship, corruption, and illegal imprisonment of African leaders for change, to restore human dignity and the rights of Africans, to establish better, peaceful African societies and a brighter future for all African natives, African people, immigrants including youth, children and our posterities, to establish the common African foreign and national policies as legal political and economic cooperation and development with all foreign countries based on mutual respect, interests, and equal partnership, to define the foreign interests in Africa as the ownership of intellectual, commercial and industrial properties, but not the ownership of African land, people, governments or the country., to establish justice and equality for all, to form the first African government with multi ethnic group presidential cabinet, supreme court and Congress, to establish and promote the African prosperity. To defend and protect the declaration of independence and the Constitution to establish the rights to vote, citizen Bill of Rights, freedom of religion, the rights of candidates, democratic rights, speech and press, the rights to paid taxes, to peaceful assembly, the rights to petition governments for reforms, to have a trial by jury, to competition contracts, appointments, scholarship, to competitive prosperous, peaceful, civilized and democratic society but prohibited to practices against nature. We, the native and free people of the United States of Africa, solemnly declare, establish, publish and confirm that these United African states are and have the right to be free democratic and independent states with no ties to Western European and African governments. They are totally dissolved from all allegiance to the British, French, Chinese, Portuguese, Spanish, Belgium, Netherlands (Dutch), Italian, United Nations and African governments. The Declaration of the Republic and the Constitution establish the writing of new treaties and accord, approved by African Congress (the National Legislature) and states legislatures, based on equal partnership, joint ventures and stock, mutual respect and interest and equal economic development cooperation with all foreign countries.

The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of Africa re-establish and restore the legal sovereignty, the legal right to pursue the legal ownership of Africa, its land and the right of legal property of land, people to native Africans through the government of United States of Africa. Kenya: The Inter-clan clashes in Kuria is all about politics and not because of cattle rustling as claimed in certain quarters

News Analysis By Leo Odera Omolo In Migori Town.

He latest flare up between the two rival sub-clans in Kuria district within Migori County in which thee people have lost their precious lives and close to 70 houses torched leaving more than 570 people displaced did not come about as the result of the traditional cattle rustling, but has some political connotation which need to be investigated thoroughly by the government.

There is something in the skirmishes more than meet the eye. The Kurias are protesting against a political party which is trying to impose an unpopular candidate, who has also long been suspected to be foreign, to represent them in the Senate.

The former Kuria |MP Dr Wilfred Machage is the official ODM candidate for Migori County Senate seat. The latte,r who is also an Assistant Minister for Public Works, has represented the community ever since 2002. He has served as an MP leaning on the PNU side of the ruling grand coalition and was also the deputy PNU party leader.

However, early this year Dr. Machage successfully persuaded the ODM leader Raila Amolo Odinga to accept him with a promise that this new arrangement would give “Agwambo” political mileage over his rivals by harvesting 100 per cent of all the votes within the two Kuria districts of Kuria East and Kuria West.

The Kuria constituency which was created in 1962 has since been splinted into Kuria East and Kuria West. Dr Machage had demanded that he be given a direct nomination as his prerequisite and conditions of rejoining the ODM.

Raila Odinga following intensive persuasion by his front man in Migori County, who is Dalmas Otieno, the Minister for Public Service hastily and readily accepted Dr. Machage’s plan as viable.

Dalmas Oteno while working in cohorts with some Luo MPs from the Migori County who included Edick Omondi Anyanga {Nyatike}, Cyprian Ojwang’ Omolo {Uriri]. John Pesa {Migori} followed the arrangement with a series of night meetings held behind the closed door of the various posh Nairobi hotels. The group later tried in vain to sell the idea to the electorate, but they prove to be so adamant, forcing Raila Odinga himself to make a series of unscheduled visits to Migori in order to bulldoze and coerce the voters to accept that the Kuria community is one of the marginalized minority communities in Kenya and as such need pr0tection by way of reserving certain elective seats with the Migori County governance exclusively for the Kurias.

At the same time, Raila had assured the voters that nobody would be given direct nomination by the ODM and that all the interested aspirants would have to compete in the open for votes.

However, what might have been known to Raila is that Dr.Machage is not a popular leader of all the Kuria people. The former Kuria MP is not a member of any of the four major Kuria sub-clans livng in Kenya. He is a member of Abakenye, a small Kuria sub-clan living in the North Mara in Tanzania and neighboring Jo-Sakwa Kowak and Rieny Kowuoyo.

The major Kuria sub-clans living in Kenya comprises of Abanyabansi, Abairege, Bugumbe and Abakiria. Dr Machage is not a member of any of the four sub-clans and as such he is being treated by the Kuria people as a immigrant and a foreigner and specifically a Tanzanian.living among them.

Another Tanzanian Kuria who in the past has succeeded in sitting inside Kenyan parliament for two parliamentary terms of five years is Eng Shadrack Mangawho was elected an MP between 1992 and 1997 and has served in the defunct MOi KANU government as an Assistant Minister.

Manga is a member of another smaller Kuria sub-clan living across the common Kenya-Tanzania borders which is known as Ntimbaru. After his election, some Kuria intellectuals and politicians made a concerted efforts and even moved to court to have him {Manga} out of Kenyan parliament on claims that he was a Tanzanian and therefore a foreign an ineligible to sit in Kenya in vain. The case was thrown out by the court.

Kuria parliament seat was created in 1962 by the British appointed Boundaries omission, which was led by Prof. Mackenzie in 1962.Its first MP was Benjamin Maisori -Itumbo who was appointed to the post-independence cabinet as an Assistant Minister for Social Services. He had also served as a member of the defunct colonial Legislative Coucil in which he was nominated by the governor Sir.Patrick Renson in 1961.

Maisori-tumbo hails from Bugumbe sub-clan and had dominated Kuria politics for close to three decades. He was later replaced by Samson Marwa Mwita, and later by Walter Mwita.Al the three past MPs were the indignant Kenyan Kuria people.

By the time the ODM made the disastrous decision to have the the Migori County Senate seat reserved for the Kuria, several political – personalities had already hit the peak with their campaign for the same seat. Tey included John Magaiywa , the ODM MIGORI County branch chairman,

The result of the ODM nomination was most disappointing. Raila’s preferred candidate Dr Machage garnered paltry 51,000 votes against Magaiywa’s 72,000 votes. Strangely enough the ODM headquarters issued Dr.Machage with nomination certificate and denied Magaiywa his hard won election victory.

Those privy to information about Kuria politics have confided to us that the latest inter-clans clashes had just come about as the protest by the voters against the ODM decision of supporting the nomination loser while leaving out the winner. He skirmishes cannot be dismissed as caused by cattle rustling, but as the result of bad politics.

Global Employment Trends 2013

From: Yona Maro

The report examines the crisis in labour markets of both advanced economies and developing economies. The epicentre of the crisis has been the advanced economies, accounting for half of the total increase in unemployment of 28 million since the onset of the crisis. The report estimates the quantitative and qualitative indicators of global and regional labour markets and discusses the macroeconomic factors affecting the labour markets in order to explore possible policy responses. In examining the impact of macroeconomic developments on labour markets, the report looks at negative feedback loops from households, firms, capital markets and public budgets that have weakened labour markets. It finds that macro imbalances have been passed on to the labour market to a significant degree. Weakened by faltering aggregate demand, the labour market has been further hit by fiscal austerity programmes in a number of countries, which often involved direct cutbacks in employment and wages, directly impacting labour markets.
