Re: Who changed the sign!

It goes without saying that there are certain documents that once they have been issued, can not be changed by anyone but by those who issued them. Included in such a list are:

1.Marriage certificate.
2.Birth certificate.
3.Academic/professional certificates
4.Title deeds

Furthermore, there are signs that are meant to create order and safeguard lives that must not be tampered with. Such signs iclude the following:

1.Stop.
2.Railway clossing.
3.Violaters will be prosecuted.
4.Store closing down.

Messing up with any of the above will be regarded as breaking the rules and might lead to prosecution.

Those who have been to Fedex Kinkos to use the computer are aware of the words that appear on the screen as soon as you turn the computer on: “You are not charged while the computer is initializing!” Since the customers are charged by hour, this statement is meant to assure whoever is concerned that the initializing part is free of charge!

Now, if anyone changes that without the knowledge of the authority and state otherwise, it will lead to loosing customers!

If such be the consequences of tampering with the human documents/signs, how about changing or even thinking of changing God’s decrees and teaching others otherwise. If you want to know what the Bible thinks about it, then read, Mathew 5:19! Will you!

Just a thought

News from the Votemaster
   The Reaction to Sarah Palin

John McCain’s surprise pick of Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) to be his running mate has already achieved one of its goals: it wiped Barack Obama’s acceptance speech, which many people of both parties saw as a great speech, from the news completely. Palin is the only story today. Here are a few photos of her. The first one is from her run at the Miss Alaska contest, where she was runner up.
[image: Sarah Palin] [image: Sarah Palin] [image: Sarah Palin] [image: Sarah Palin] [image: Sarah Palin]

Most reaction to Palin was predictable
<http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?docID=news-000002942518&parm1=145&cpage=2>.
Republicans see her as a staunch conservative, a fresh new face, a reformer from outside Washington, and someone with executive experience, which neither Obama nor Biden have. Furthermore, as a woman, a mother with five children, and a moose hunter (and life member of the NRA) she will appeal to women, moderates, Westerners and cement the GOP base. She even rides a motorcycle, which working-class men will applaud. A brilliant pick. But even among dyed-in-the-wool conservatives there were some dissenters, like David Frum <http://frum.nationalreview.com/post/?q=M2VhOWE0N2VkOWI3MDdlODRlZWE4ODljMDc2NjliZDk=>
.

Democrats don’t quite see it like that. They say she is a featherweight who is completely unprepared to be commander in chief. Her executive experience is primarily 21 months as governor of a state with a quarter the population of Brooklyn. She is strongly antiabortion, not exactly what the disgruntled Clinton supporters are looking for. In short, a disastrous pick for the GOP.

Most neutral observers

are scratching their heads. McCain’s strongest argument against Obama is that he doesn’t have the experience to be President. How can his first major personnel choice be someone with demonstrably less experience than Obama (6 years as mayor of a village with 5400 people and 21 months as governor vs. 8 years in the Illinois state senate and 3 1/2 years in the U.S. Senate)? Doesn’t that undermine his whole campaign? With so many solid choices available like governors Romney, Pawlenty, Sanford, and Ridge, why a total unknown who is being investigated by her own (Republican-controlled) legislature for possible ethical violations. What is McCain thinking? The Veep: A Short Play in One Act

Sometimes fiction is a better vehicle for getting inside someone’s mind. Besides, it’s all we have. Here is a short play for two actors. Let’s call them Schmidt, a tough, savvy consultant, and McCain, a candidate. All names have been changed to protect the innocent.
——————————
*Schmidt*: McCain, Get your ass over here and look at this map.

*McCain*: It’s the U.S. with the states red and blue. Seen it before. What’s your point?

*Schmidt*: Obama’s gonna win all the Kerry States. You have a small chance to pick off New Hampshire but 60% of the people think you’re pro choice. When they find out you’ve been pro life for 25 years, forget New Hampshire.

*McCain*: Where does that leave me?

*Schmidt*: Bush won 286 to 252.

*McCain*: Fine with me.

*Schmidt*: But wait a minute. Obama campaigned like crazy in Iowa. Won the caucuses big time. You barely set foot in the state. The people of Iowa take their caucuses very, very seriously. You insulted them. Make that 279 to 259.

*McCain*: I still win.

*Schmidt*: We’re not done yet. Obama has been leading in New Mexico all year. State’s full of Latinos. They preferred Clinton but they’re still Democrats at heart. I think we’re toast there. Now its 274 to 264.

*McCain*: A win is a win. Still better than Florida was.

*Schmidt*: Yeah, but now Obama is just 5 EVs short of a tie (which means it goes to the House and he’ll win there) and 6 EVs short of a clean win. Look, there are six swing states this time: Florida, Virginia, Ohio, Missouri, Colorado, and Nevada. We have to win all six of them. Can’t lose a single state or we’re dead meat.

*McCain*: I’m a fighter. You know that. The gooks couldn’t break me. I’ll campaign like hell in all six. Don’t worry.

*Schmidt*: I’m worried. We’re 50-50 on all six. It’s like flipping a coin six times and getting six heads. One chance in 64, roughly 2%. We have to do something dramatic. Something that will throw all calculations out the window. Something that completely shakes up everything. Something that gives us a fresh start. Gotta hit the RESET button.

*McCain*: Have something in mind?

*Schmidt*: Yeah. Pick a black or a woman for Veep.

*McCain*: You mean I can’t pick Joe? He’s my friend and a great guy.

*Schmidt*: Half the convention would walk out. Besides, Jews aren’t a novelty any more. Thank Gore for that.

*McCain*:. Shit. But blacks are fine with me. Colin Powell is a great American and one of the most respected people in America.

*Schmidt*: He doesn’t want the job

*McCain*: No sweat. Condi’s the smartest woman I know. Mind like a bear trap. She’ll run rings around Biden at the debate. She’ll say: “I’ve been there. I talk to Putin every week. You’re just an old windbag”

*Schmidt*: She’s got “BUSH III” emblazoned on her forehead. And Obama is a happily married man with two adorable little girls, Condi’s a single black woman who is apparently not much into families. Won’t work. What about Kay [Bailey Hutchison (R-TX)]?

*McCain*: She’s tired of the Washington rat race. She wants to go back to Texas. Be governor or something, you know like Ma Ferguson.

*Schmidt*: Ma’s husband, the governor, was impeached and convicted. Ann Richards would be a better role model. What other women do we have?

*McCain*: Jodi [Rell] and Olympia [Snowe] are smart and popular but pro choice. The Base distusts me already. They’d mutiny.

*Schmidt*: Elizabeth Dole? Susan Collins?

*McCain*: With either of those we lose a Senate seat. I don’t want to have 60 Democrats to deal with over there. Reid might grow a spine. Can’t encourage that.

*Schmidt*: Lisa Murkowski?

*McCain*: Her dad appointed her. She won on her own later, but I don’t need to deal with nepotism and cronyism. Smells like Bush. I’m a maverick, remember?

*Schmidt*: Got it. Some businesswomen? Sarah Palin?

*McCain*: Carly [Fiorina] is great on economics, but she nearly she ran her company into the ground so the board fired her and then gave her $40 million so she wouldn’t feel bad. The 20,000 people she fired aren’t too keen on her. Meg Whitman did a fantastic job at eBay but nobody’s ever heard of her.
*Schmidt*: So Palin’s the only one left? What about her?

*McCain*: I met her once, at a governors meeting. Cute as a button. She ran for Miss Alaska. Came in second. I woulda voted for her. But it’s a real Hail Mary pass. She’s popular up north there where the sun never shines (except for some minor problems when she tried to fire her state trooper brother-in-law). She was pregnant with a Down syndrome baby and didn’t abort him. The Base will love that. Her hobbies are riding her motorcycle and hunting moose. The coal miners in Appalachia will go wild over her. How fast can we print a million 8×10 color photos of her for their lockers?

*Schmidt*: Fast. But what about her experience. I mean, she’s only been governor a year and a half. What did she do before that?

*McCain*: I think she was mayor of some village with six igloos. Who cares? I think you’re right we have to shake things up completely. Change the game. The Base will eat her up on abortion, the Hillary fans will see that we respect women (unlike their guy). We grab the mantle of reformers. The white guys will be transfixed by this hot chick who hunts moose. I get to be Maverick-in-chief. Sounds like a winner.

*Schmidt*: What about the debate with Biden? What if the moderator says: “What would you do if Russia invaded Georgia again?” and she says: “I’ll get on Air Force One and fly to Atlanta immediately.”

*McCain*: Most Americans can’t find Georgia the state on a map, let alone Georgia the country. I’ll get Lugar to tutor her on foreign policy. He knows everything about it. I’m sold. Let’s go for it. Curtain falls. Today’s Polls

No state polls today [hence, the play–got to have some copy :-) ]. However, Obama is getting a bounce in the national polls. Gallup’s tracking poll puts him ahead 49% to 41% and Rasmussen’s tracking poll puts him ahead 49% to 45%. These are three day averages and all the interviews were done before Obama’s acceptance speech. We could see more bounce tomorrow. But with the Republican convention starting Monday, it might fade fast.

Ramussen ran a poll Thursday on the various Veep picks, including Sarah Palin. The results: 14% have a favorable view of her, 18% have an unfavorable view of her, 67% have never heard of her. This means that both parties are going to scramble to define her. The Republicans will push the young reformer from outside Washington angle. The Democrats will say she makes Dan Quayle like look a graybeard. Traditionally, tickets are balanced by geography. This time they are balanced by age. Obama the newbie, picked one of the most inside of all the insiders. McCain the sage old warrior went for fresh blood to revitalize the party.

KENYA AND UGANDA URGED BY THE CIVIL SOCIETY TO END CROSS BORDER INCURSION AND SKIRMISHES BY SECURITY PERSONNEL

By Leo Odsra Omolo

CIVIC society have urged Kenya and Uganda governments to call an urgent joint security meeting along the common borders of the two sister nations to broke lasting peace between pastoralists communities.

The call by NGOs working among the pastoralists communities in the two countries followed the recently reported attack on the Turkana tribesmen by the men suspected to be members of the Uganda People’s Defence Force [{UPDF}

Unconfirmed reports indicate that on Augusr 15th, 2008 people suspected to be Ugandan security personnel launched an attack against the Turkana herdsmen displacing hundreds of them and killed ten people inside Kenya..

The more than 150 Ugandan soldiers used heavy gun fire in an attack that was reported to have lasted for the whole day.Ten people were confirmed dead, three suffered serious gun wounds injuries while three others are still missing two week long after the hostilities had ceased

But the Uganda Peoples Defence Fore{UPDF} has reacted with a stern warning that it will not allow the Turkana pastralists from Kenya to cross into Uganda in search pasture while carrying their weapons{guns with them}. They must be disarmed at the border point before the cross, said a UDPF spokesman.

UDPF’s Commander of the Eastern division Brigadier Patrick Kankihiro was quoted by the Kenyan press this week as having accused the Kenyan herdsmen of habving refused to surrender their weapons before entering i9nto Uganda territory in search of water and pasture for their livestocks.

Brig Kankhiro said the herdsmen, who are fleeing drought in Kenyan, would not be allowed into Uganda until officers are appointed to monitor their movements.

He wenton,”The herdsmen cross to Uganda with guns leading to accusations and counter accusations between them and the local communities here over cattle theft,”

Brigadier Kankhiro explained that during a meeting at Mbale Uganda, it was resolved that liaison officers from both Kenya and Uganda be appointed to monitor the border crossing activities by herdsmen.

“The matter should be habndle at high level diplomacy by the governments of Uganda and Kenya. The Liaison officers will be able to help the two governments to address the complaints from the communities involved,”

The Brig Said the herdsmen would only be allowed into Uganda after communications was received from the senior officials in Uganda and Kenyan.

Brig Kankihiro accused the Kenyan pastralist tribesnmen of sneaking into Uganda in search of pasture, but warned that they would be disarmed by force if that is found to be the necessary action should they defy the order to surrender their weapons.

“There was a time these pastrolists entered Uganda armed with gubns and killed one of our soldiers and even engaged in cattle rustling,”he said, accusing the two communities of engaging in violent cattle rustling.

A statement to thus effect was issued by a member of the Seeds of Peace International {SOPA} Mr Meindert Karevaar early this week.

He statement further explained that the alleged incursion by Uganda soldiers ended up they drove away 150 head of cattle, 120 sheep. Also stolen were 50 donkeys, which the soldiers drove into their nearby army barracks .The soldiers raided the pastoralists homestead in the border villages.

According to Lokichogio.Cropol Kakuma Development Organisation, another NGO, which is also operating along the border villages, four thousand people have now joined the rank an file of refugees status as Internally Displaced People{IDP} in their own country .

Insecurity in Northern Kenya has increased and this has been attributed to the traditional practice and couture of cattle rustling made dangerous by the infiltration of small arms

Earlier this month, about 70 people among the pastrolists lost their lives in an attack by bandits in three Kenyan villages in Turkana South district.

Pastralists communities are constantly in search of pasture and water.

UGANDA’S Ministry of Foreign Affairs decline to offer any comment about the allegations that Ugandan soldiers were involved in an armed attack against unarmed Turkana tribesmen inside Kenya. At the same time Nairobi declined to make further comment in reaction of the appeal by the NGO.

UDM’S ENTRY INTO BOMET AND SOTIK BY ELECTIONS SENT SHOCKWAVES TO ODM, PNU AND KANU PARTIES

News analysis By Leo
Odera Omolo In Kericho

The bouncing back to life by the hitherto adamant and sleeping United Democratic Movement (UDM) has sent shockwaves in the South Rift region, particular when two parliamentary by elections is taking place.

The by-election in Bomet and Sotik constituencies were occasioned by the deaths of two ODM MP, Kipkalya Kones ( Bomet) and Ms Lorna Laboso (Sotik). The two perished in an aircraft accident in Konjong’a area of Narok District on June 10,2008.

In Bomet, Mrs Beatric Kones clinched the ODM ticket trouncing a battery of men and a fellow woman in the primaries. She will be the official party candidate at the by-elections which is scheduled for September 24 while in the neighbouring Sotik Constituency, Dr. Mrs Joyce Laboso Abonyo, the eldest sister of the late Lorna Laboso beat half a dozen of women and men to clinch the ODM ticket.

The two iron ladies, however, are still to face the stiffest opposition from men standing on other parties tickets. The UDM is posing a serious threat in both Bomet and Sotikl. But KANU too, cannot be written off as it has enormous influence in the two constituencies. If Nick Salat get KANU sponsorship in Bomet, he is expected to give Mrs Kones a run for her money.

Salat despite having stuck with KANU is a popular leader on his own right, while his party’s popularity has waned drastically in the region, and it would be a tall order for any KANU sponsored aspirant to perform miracle in the election proper.

The emergency of the UDM is likely to pose a serious threat to the ODM which won the parliamentary seat in the Kipsigis region in December 2007 and topped up its victory with an extra seat in the diaspora.

That was an added value to the ODM supremacy in the South Rift, when the former powerful Ps in charge of Internal Security and Provincial Administration Zakayo K Cheruiyot won the Kuresoi seat in the newly created Molo district with a landslide majority against a PNU candidate. This brought the number of the Kipsigis Parliamentary strength to nine.

Cheruiyot and other ODM MPs in the region have since revolted and are likely to ditch the party citing numerous issues as the bone of contention.

The issues include the alleged marginalization of the Kipsigis community by the grand coalition government, removal of members of the community from civil services and armed forces, the planned mass eviction of close to 20,000 squatters families from the controversial Mau Forest Complex, the sacking of their people from lucrative jobs within the parastatals and quasi-government organizations, failure by the government to appoint their people in the parastatal boards and refusal to nominate any of their on in the national assembly.

But all are not well for the ODM ,a party which is lead by the Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga. Its members have been heard openly criticizing the party nomination system as being open to corruption and manipulation.

A good number of the aspirants already campaigning on the ground have said they have no confidence with the man entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring that the party primaries are held in accordance to its constitution as laid down.

The man in charge of ODM is Eng Philip Okoth Okundi the first ageing ODM MP for Rangwe

Okundi failed the test of competency and proficiency when he recently handled the four by-elections, one in Kilgoris,Embakasi,Ainamoi and one in NFD

ODM supporters in Kericho maintain that the primaries for the Ainamoi by election was the worset flawed and that Okundi even failed to order a recount of the voters after he was allegedly directed to do so by the party leader Raila Odinga, and that he easily got succumbed to threats by William Ruto the Agriculture Minister and went on to declare Benjamin Kiplang’at the Winner though the electorate believe the Lt Gen (rtd) John Koech had won the primaries votes.

Gen Koech protested and Raila was reported to have instructed Okundi to ensure there was a fair play in the exercise . Insiders have, however. confided to us that Okundi had easily succumbed to Ruto’s threats and abdicated from his duties of ensuring that the elections were free and fair.

The most aspirants who vied for the by-elections on the ODM tickets in both Bomet and Sotik have complained bitterly of massive rigging and irregularities. There were more aspirants on ODM ticket than any other political parties. The party leaders must seriously address its flawed primaries system ,which has a lot of loopholes and the aspirants says that fair play would only be realized with the removal of Eng Okundi , whose weakness costed the party seats in Embkasi and Kilgoris constituencies in other recenly concluded by-elections and also facilitated falsified victory of Ben Langat in Ainamoi

Concerted efforts are being put in place to rally ODM supporters in the two constituencies to vote for its official candidates who will emerge victorious after the primaries. But pundits were quick in saying that the mass fallout is expected after the primaries.

The by elections came at the time when the political temperatures in the Kipsigis region seemed to favour the UDM and when the ODM fortune are dwindling and nose diving much faster.

Already six MPs from the Kipsigis community have made it publicly clear that they were considering an altenative political party to support in future elections. Most of these MPs are also vehemently opposed to the government planned eviction of thousands of squatters from the Mau Forest Complex.

The UDM a party which has been rejuvenated by the arrival of Gen Koech as the new party leader had given ODM a serious scare during the AInamoi by-elections when its candidate Dr.Paul Chepkeroncy a Moi University senior lecturre ganernered 16,000 against ODm Ben Langat 17,000 votes. Fear persist that UDM could easily turn the table on the ODM in the Bomet and Sotik by-elections taking into account the prevailing charge political tension in the South Rift region.

Bomet constituency has an interesting history ever since Its inception in the early 1970. The two dominant political families belonging to the late Issac Kipkorir Salat and the late Donald Kirprono Kipkalya Kones have dominated the politics of the area. The two families have held on the Bomet Seat ever since its inception and there is the dissenting voices demanding for radical surgery and change of stewardship.

One aspirant who had stand to enhance his chances and that is Mr.Steve Mutai the former administrator with the Tenwek Mission Hospital. But he performed poorly for the second time at the primaries Also in the race is Mr.Sammy Maina ,a senior manager with the KETEPA Tea Packing Company in Kericho. He too ,could not match the euphoria of Mrs Kones. Mr.Sam Sigei, the brother in-law of Mrs Ida Odinga whoi also performed dismally dispite of his high profile candidacy . Previously Sigei had been the chief campaigner for the late Kones.

Prof Wilson Sitonik and a former diplomat but now a Nairobi business woman Ms Lila Siele is among the more than half dozens aspirants who will battle it out for the control of 80,584 votes in Bomet. The outcome of this week’s ODM preliminaries in both Bomet and sotik are likely to result in massive fallout and discontent by the followers of aspirants who lost in the primaries, and UDM is said to be standing by to harvest the residues.

In the neighbouring sotik the former Nairobi P.C Francis Sigei also lost the race for the second timeto the firebrand Dr.Joyce Laboso Abonyo, the late Lorna Laboso sister,Mrs and the hitherto touted to be on the front runbner Mrs Cicilia Ng’etich the former headmistress of Kaiplong Girls Secondary School and another iron lady Ms Beatrice Chebomoi ,Mr. Paul Mutai,Coun.David Rotich the former MP Antony (Sotet) Kimeto,Eng Stanley Rotich who it was being alleged to be the blue-eyed boy for William Ruto in the area all perfomedpoorly in the primaries. Some of these candidates as expected are going to jump on the tickets of other parties to contest in the election proper, but that too would be an up-hill task to perform

The signs that all are not well were the last weeks actions by Sotik aspirants who prevailed upon the sotik constituency elders Forum to petition ODM headquarters to disband the party’s current election board led by Eng Okundi.

The aspirants wanted the board which oversaw part’s preliminaries nomination for the sotik by-election.

The close to ten aspirants spoke at a meeting in which they presented their visions for the constituency.

In the neigbouring Mrs Beatrcie kones was recently anointed by the Kapbencherek sub-clan to contest the seat in the by-election . But pundits says this was a misplaced and miscalculated action which has already started working against Mr.Kones on the ground.

Reports emerging from the ground indicated that Nick Salat , the outspoken former MP for the area who had successfully floored the late Kones in the year 2002 is the man to watch.

Salat has stuck to KANU and its said to be contesting the election of that party ticket through his supporters has been urging him to switch to the UDM.

This is also an air of discontent against the two political families which have dominated the constituency political ever since the creation in t he early 1970s. These are the Kones and the Salats.

The late Isaac Kipkorir Salat ,a close confidant of retired President Daniel Arap Moi become the first Bomet MP in the early 1970s when it hugs hived from the larger Chepalungu until his death.

After the death of Salat who served the various KANU regime as an Assitant Minister, came the popular Kipkalya Kones who was later to dominate the politics of Bomet for close to two decades . Kones representation, however was briefly interrupted by a resounding defeat by Nick Salat in 2002.

Kones had ditched KANU following what was perceived to be disagreement on matter of principles between him and Moi. He was twice sacked by Moi once while serving the Minister of State in the OP and later as the Minister for works. But he bounced back with thuds in 2007.

There is an air of discontent among the electorate who now wants a change from the Kones and Salats to anew face in order to effect meaningful change in the Bomet political front.

And the entry of UDM in the two by-elections is therefore viewed as representing the desired change. But it will depend on the quality of the candidates who must be men and women with an attractive track of development and individual integrity.
