Lands minister James Orengo went public on the controversial sale of Grand Regency because of fear the Cabinet could not be counted on to deal with corruption.

Interviewed yesterday, Orengo said the leak came from junior officers who were concerned about the flurry of activity at the Lands office on the day the transfer of the hotel was finally made.

Even now, he revealed, there were “vibes’ that “some people in government” were complaining about him being difficult while the sale was a ‘government project’. He argued the sale of the hotel was, “conceived outside the Cabinet”, and needed to be dealt with as such. “When I got the information on June 26, I immediately went public because there had been denials that there was a sale. The Finance minister denied there was even an intended sale; then I hear that the sale has taken place and property transferred.”

Orengo said he immediately ordered the Commissioner of Lands to give him an explanation by July 1 on why the minister was kept in the dark as the land was being transferred.

On June 30, the minister ordered that there be a caveat on the land, reasoning that that the law gives the Registrar powers to recall titles in cases of fraud.

Even as the President remained silent on the matter, and with a Cabinet meeting cancelled last week, Orengo said the transfer of the hotel was “void from the start and a nullity.”

“Waiting for Cabinet to meet would look like we wanted to manage the information for the benefit of a clique. Statements had been made that were deliberately misleading. “Responsibility, including collective responsibility, are not meant to undermine the rule of law,” the minister said.

The Ugenya MP, despite being a Cabinet minister, said the fact that a select group tried to sell public property secretly meant the war against corruption was not over and he would not relent.

“This is a typical me. I would not want to compromise ideas I hold dear and always fought for. At any time we encounter these shady deals, we will counter them, and deal with them without compromise,” the minister vowed.

Dear My fellow Country People.

What we see happening in Kenya is pathetic. Hon. Kimunyas case is a total shame to Kenya. It make we Kenya Voters to look like real primitive.

This is a third case I am seeing happening in Kenya in less than Two Year and all coming from the same tribe and it is assumed to be right.

First was during Refaradum when Orange won and Banana lead by Kikuyu refused to accept defeate.

Second was National election where ODM won and Kikuyu led PNU refused to cede.

Third Kimunya a Kikuyu minister found guilty of misuse of Public Office was by Vote of no Confidence asked by Parliament to step down and resign to pave way for investigation, stubornly and adamantly refused, boasting that he will not resign or step down.

I am not being Tribalistic but it is clear here that Kikuyu leaders are setting a presidence which supports corruption by instiling fear in Kenyans.

This should not be accepted as Hon. Orengo puts. We have 43 Tribes in Kenya and we should not be cowed by one tribe’s malice. Kimunya should be arrested and be imprisoned together with all his cronies.
