KENYA: NATION’S LEADERS WANT GOVERNMENT TO INVEST MORE IN THE LAKE.

By Agwanda Jowi

Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo, together with seven Members of Parliament drawn from Lake Victoria region, are now calling upon the government to put more investment into the lake in order to spur economic growth of the region.

The legislators say that the potential in the lake region remains underexploited.

Midiwo says that the central government continues to collect billions of shillings annually, from the lake’s resources, but does no development in return.

He says it is time the government plough back some money to the lake to improve infrastructure and improve on its sustainability.

He says there is a need to open up a ring road along the lake, alongside electricity, to assist fishermen to preserve their fish and access markets in time.

The MPs, who spoke during a meeting organized by the Indigenous Fisher People’s Network in Kisumu, noted that the fishing policies must be implemented to restructure the fishing sector.

Hon. Oyugi Magwanga, MP for Kasipul Kabondo, noted that good polices which can rejuvenate the fishing sector are just lying on the shelves and so must be implemented.

Magwanga says that there is no point of passing more policies while the existing laws remain unimplemented.

MPs present were Ekwe Ethuro, Pollyns Ochieng, John Pesa, James Rege, and Martin Ogindo.

Why don’t luo men also start marrying and respecting their own women for a change. This would also improve the way luos live in general.
All our luo men do is talk cheap and run to central province to develop it-by marrying their women.
As soon as the marriage is over, they run back to luo land looking for primitive luo women to bully and produce more children for some ignorant culture sake.
Luo men wake up! Lakeside is behind because of your ignorance.
I am a luo woman and I wouldn’t dare marry our luo men.
    They bring our community down.

I hope these MPs are not trying to sell the land around Lake Victoria to foreign entities the same way they sold Yala Swamp to that DOMINION FARM guy from Oklahoma who turned around and fucked up the whole area including the ordinary Kenyans who used to live around there!!
Most Luos are very naive about their blind trust to foreigners. They forget that wazungu are merely there to make money for themselves and destroy anything that get in their way. That includes humans!!!

@ Tembi, i dont know where you were raised but from what i can read from your frustration and bitterness , your childhood wasn´t as pleasant. Do not generalize a whole community just because of your shortcomings and experiences. Be a part of the solution that can upbring our community to prosperity instead of your cheap propaganda here. Wake up up you are only a failute when you start to blame others.

An jakajulu kendo a luwo mana nyar nam…

The MPs are trying to hoodwink the Luos with what many have been asking for along time. This is exactly what the elected Luos MPs should have started with immediately we joined the coalition. Have they just realized that there is nothing to show after their term expires having been in the coalition all this time? As a matter of fact, these are some of the issues they should discuss the the governmental level. The people of Nyanza should just be told that “we have already negotiated this trillion package for the development of the region”. I think that’s what representatives should be telling their followers. I understand the campaigns are around the corner, the problem is that our people will never hold their MPs to account for the period they have spent in parliament in terms of tangible development.
