I’m Doug O’Brien, Rural Vote Director for the Ohio Campaign for Change.

I wanted to share a video with you about an exciting new program we’re launching here in Ohio called Barns for Obama.

Barns for Obama combines Ohio’s history of painted barns — from the old Mail Pouch Barns to the Bicentennial Barns in every county — with the enthusiasm for Barack Obama and this Campaign for Change.

A few weeks ago in Trumbull County, we saw the completion of the first of what we know will be many Barns for Obama. A local farmer offered his barn, and painters volunteered their time to make it happen.

I wanted you to see this video because I think it captures just why Barack is the one candidate we can count on to stand up for the farmers, workers, and families of rural Ohio.

As Rural Vote Director, I’ve traveled all over the Buckeye State to listen to farmers, workers, and other folks interested in a better future for Ohio’s small cities, towns, and rural areas.

I’ve gone from Cadiz to Celina, from Gallipolis to Defiance, and the message I’ve gotten is clear: people are ready for a different kind of campaign that respects and includes all of Ohio’s communities.

That’s the campaign we are building here in Ohio — a campaign that reaches to every corner of our state and speaks to every Ohioan.

Just this month we were the first campaign in memory — Democratic or Republican — to open a campaign office in Perry County, in the Southeastern part of the state. And we’re getting a great response, because Barack Obama is the right person at the right time for folks all across Ohio who want change.

Barns for Obama is our latest outreach effort, but there are lots of other ways to get involved and grow our movement here.
