William,

This has always been an emotive subject.

Development means we coalesce into units that can bring meaningful change. This change must be economical for other facets of development to come real.

But with the benefit of hindsight, the Luo elite has been an enemy of the people. How many Luos have we had placed in very prominent positions nationally?

We have had Luos as MDs in senior parastatals, but all they have done to the Luo is basically NOTHING. You walk into their offices, you are kept at the reception for 5 hours, then ultimately told that he is busy he cannot see you. Something that you should have been told the moment you walked in.

How many Luos have these Luos employed? NIL, not even a mosquito from Nyanza! How many educational enterprises have they supported? Nil.

So, of what benefit have these Luos been to the society? ZERO.

Juxtapose this with the Kikuyu. The moment one gets appointed to be an MD, he immediately finds avenues to sack his deputy so that he can employ another Kikuyu to deputise him. He will go ahead and employ as many Kikuyus in the organisation, at all levels, such that whenever there is a vacancy, a Kikuyu will be at the wings to get appointed, or rather, confirmed.

This does not mean that we cannot change. All that we need to do as Luos, whenever one gets a state appointment, stop being selfish. Go out and support as many Luos as possible, employ as many as possible, and therein, we will find the money to invest in Nyanza.

Otherwise, Nyanza Economic Forum will remain an oppressors tool to consign the Luo to further economic misery.

Lets hope that the plans of Nyanza economic Forum will not stay in the books and papers forever but will be translated to actions for the benefit of the people of nyanza

Good idear good responeadeses by the readers, i am not so sure about the goals of Nyanza economic forum?is it to encourage people or to educate and or to find avenues for people who are interested in learning more about progress and economic growth?

That being asked ,there was anice article on standard about Nyanza food production, there is non naynza import all her food from neighbouring regions, any yet its surounded by the most fresh water and beautifull one in the world. Why an’t we not growing food and why is there aresistance in dairy cattle rearing in the region, and yet the luos are in the dairy industry, at least education wise, and agriculture, there are no real universities in Nyanza, less plytechnics for school leavers, absolutely no tourism and yet Nyanza has the best geographic features,
its time to stop the talks and walk the walks, just like 2008 republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin puts it. ( America)

Lets be real and develop the region and to make it economi/ cultural power house in the region.

Where there is a will there is a way. Nyanza as a region has vast resources. What we need to do is learn as much from the Kikuyus, Asians, Chinese, Philipeans and the rest of the world. The key to success for these communities is entrepreneurial mind set. Without entrepreneurship there is no success in development.

If we became entrepreneurial, then we shall be able to forecast opportunities and pick them up in time. The Kikuyu’s forecast job opportunities and equip their colleagues with all the necessary expertise required. They learned that luos did succeed in education and quickly they have produced their own experts in their own rights. Entrepreneurship mind set is what Nyanza region needs.

NEF is relevant to us for resource mobilization, knowledge sharing and for harnessing investment opportunities arising. I think the issue of where NEF is being operated from really isn’t as big a deal as the contribution that we are making as individuals to NEF.
