An army of young warriors is being secretly armed and reinforced in remote areas of Kenya’s Rift Valley, preparing for war if the country’s knife-edge peace talks fail.
Elders have organised thousands of men from the pro-opposition Kalenjin tribe into militia units, each split into marksmen, foot- soldiers, armourers, drivers and cooks.

It is something to aploud if KIBAKI and his woman and men fell to go low as ODM has done,it is better because this people are just frustrating Annan, they stole the election and thy are no embarased of the death, thy better Die them
There is alot more to this story. Support has been pledged from different fronts (including neighbouring Govts). The illegitimate govt is also preparing for the worst, there has been increased military presence in Kisumu and other opposition areas in the past two days.
This is the time for ethnic communities to strengthen not only economic bargaining power, but also military bargaining power. The Kisii have Chinkororo, the Kikuyu have Mungiki, the Kalenjin have one now, the Luyha have is it Msumbiji. It is time the Luo also have a standing army for negotiations, and not merely spontaneous reactions. Under Ker, the units should be organized per clan so that there is preparedness for negotiations.
Dear Omboga,
It is our understanding that the Luo have the “Taliban” gang. But that it is just that, a gang. The Kikuyu and the Kalenjin appear to have more military might (in terms of organized militias) at the moment with Mungiki having the greatest advantage since it is receiving the lion’s share of state funding.
