Medical Services Assistant Minister Danson Mungatana has poured cold water on those organising PNU’s recruitment drive, calling them political opportunists.

Mr Mungatana said termed the organisers political rejects returning from the political cold.

The Narc-Kenya Secretary-General called on wananchi to ignore the recruitment, saying PNU comprised of affiliate parties and not individual members.

Mr Mungatana spoke at Karung’e Primary School in Murang’a North District, where he officially launched a programme by Ahadi Trust and the Public Health Department to counter jigger infestation among pupils in 14 primary schools in Mathioya.

The Garsen MP said: “PNU will not go anywhere since its affiliate parties have distanced themselves from the recruitment exercise”.

“If they fail to listen, ODM will have an easy ride in the 2012 General Election,” he said.

Mungatana accused some PNU politicians of shielding President Kibaki from understanding that PNU had lost touch on the ground.

Elsewhere, a PNU official has scoffed at the announcement by nine MPs from Meru that they had “defected” from PNU, saying that will not shake the party.

Speaking to The Standard on telephone, PNU Ukambani coordinator Mwengi Mutuse said the recruitment would help PNU strengthen its hold and put in place proper systems in readiness for 2012.

Assistant Ministers Kareke Mbiuki (Nithi), Kilemi Mwiria (Tigania), MPs Silas Muriuki (North Imenti), Alex Muiru (Tharaka) and Mithika Linturi (Igembe South) said at the weekend they would name their new party in a few weeks time.
