As poverty is to wealth, so is the female anopheles mosquito to the blood meal.
The other day I am walking home whistling a lovely tune and trying to put some lyrics to it. The not so good lyrics (dirty?) seem to be the easiest to come by. Why I cannot explain.
Lo and behold a vehicle is behind me and I have to step aside. Again… lo and behold its a BIMA and therein lies the thesis of my subject. The bima inevitably reminds me of my poverty –it is true that is I don’t have a ride (yet), but must I be reminded?
In short, wealth, (riches) causes poverty by such blatant displays.
As for the female anopheles, We know that it needs a blood meal once in a while. Where is the male during this time? Life is useless and the world is lost……..
Good people, I feel like I have woken up on the left side of the bed. Or may be I am just a sensible pessimist. Be that as it may, throw some encouraging words this way people.

Sarah,
What are your thoughts are have been my agony for some time. This morning I was thinking exactly the same. Here are some of my agonizing thoughts about poverty:
We are poor because some are rich! when growing up in the village all my grandfather’s wealth was in livestock. My uncles owned theirs but every Christmas bulls were slaughtered at Grandpa’s and at each of his eight wife’s houses in turn each dayduring the festivities.. We, the children, would go from house to house singing, dancing and munching on the mandazi and chapati (delicacies reserved for Christmas only). We were all rich and happyin our poverty! No one went hungry in Grandpa’s large family. All needy cases were assisted by the extended family from their poverty – all were rich in poverty!
Come year 2008, most of grandpa’s children and all his grandchildren wealthy yet there’s pleanty of poverty around them in the vilages; some of their kincannot afford a full meal a day, cannot take theri kids to school, still live in mud houses.
Why are some poor and some rich within the same formerly poor rich (yes, poor rich!) family setting? Because, as you put it Sarah, Poverty is “caused” by wealth. We are poor because our neighbours are rich. We are rich beacause our neighbours have less wealth than us. We are all poor because we all have nothing and, therefore we’re all rich in our poverty because our collective, eqaulising wealth is poverty!
Mathias.
