I’m surprised that no-one (including we Kenyans), seems to have noted the gratitude that US President-elect Barack Obama extended to his Kenyan half-sister Auma Obama in his 4th November 2008 acceptance speech in Chicago.

In terms of his family, he started by thanking his family on his mother’s side, then played glowing tribute to his wife Michelle & their two daughters Malia and Sasha. He then concluded by thanking his (Indonesian) half-sister Maya, and his (Kenyan) half sister Auma, before concluding with a general blanket gratitude i.e. ” and to all my other brothers and sisters”.

Listen carefully to his acceptance speech once again.

This is very significant. He must be extremely grateful to Auma for her great assistance and guidance, in helping him trace his Kenyan ancestry (1980s and early 90s), as documented in his books “Dreams of my Father” and “The Audacity of Hope”. His other Kenyan half-brothers and half-sisters were probably not bothered.

Obama did not even specifically pay tribute to his paternal step-grandmother Sarah Hussein Obama, in this respect, despite as mentioned, paying glowing tribute to his maternal grandmother Madelyn Dunham . My debt to them is beyond measure.

Kind Regards,

George Mungai,

George,

Do you know how big that clan is? You wanted him to thank all of them in that one speech? I see that in spite of being part of a global audience that watched the unfolding drama in Chicago, you elected to come away with something that meant absolutely nothing in the emerging scheme of things.

Shame on you!
