When I worked as a security officer, I do recall several occasions when people would pass by my security desk and remark “easy money!” The same has happened many times when working as a cashier! Customers will pass by and say such things as, “you look bored,” “well, nothing doing?” “Oh! are you standing just waiting,” or “well, easy money !” But perhaps the funniest remark has been on pastoral ministry! A little boy one day remarked with excitement that he wanted to become a pastor as pastor Birai when he grew up! At first I was so excited that I had inspired a little kid to become a pastor ,but on hearing his reason, I was very sad. The reason why he wanted to become a pastor is because “pastors don’t do anything!” All they do is to preach once a week and then wait for the salary! Just think about that!
So, what’s your take! Do you also consider security work, cashier work and pastoral ministry as jobs that people make “easy money!”
On the surface, it may appear that way! But a critical analysis of the same reveals the following!
1. All three jobs call for total commitment and very heavy responsibility!
2. All three jobs calls for direct dealing with God’s children that is not easy by all means!
3. All three jobs calls for accountability! In pastoral ministry, the Lord of the vineyard will require an accountability of all that were placed under the care of the minister. In security job, one is entrusted with the responsibility of guarding against people and security! And the cashier job requires that one gives an account of all the funds in the cash register!
The above preceding reasons and many others disqualify the above three jobs as belonging to the category of easy money jobs! They are not free or easy by all means!
There is one and perhaps the only thing that I know is very free to all human beings-Salvation, that has freely been provided! It’s free because someone-our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, of Nazareth, the man of Galilee, paid for it! All that you and I need is to do is to claim it free of charge!
I accepted it long time ago and continue to enjoy it while praying and counting on my Lord to help me keep it as I patiently travel home! How about you dear one!
Just a thought
