Hello Professor Makau Mutua,
Thanks for your article on President Barack Obama on the Kenya Daily Nation Online edition dated Sunday, June 12, 2011.
In part, this is what your article stated quoted verbatim:
‘The results were not post-racial. Even though a black man was elected president, the polls underscored the historical polarisation of the American electorate.
Mr Obama lost the white vote to Senator John McCain 57% to 43%. Mr McCain lost the black vote to Mr Obama 96% to 4%.
67% of Latinos and 62% of Asians voted for Mr Obama. Thus it was “people of colour” or non-whites — not whites — who put Mr Obama in the White House’. For details, visit the following web site:(http://www.nation.co.ke/oped/Opinion/Why+President+Obama+has+become+a+villain+in+America+/-/440808/1178368/-/item/1/-/rc9qcu/-/index.html).
Based on the above analysis, my good Professor, what is your hypothesis based on that President Barack Obama will be a one-term President considering the fact that your theoretical analysis is premised on a hard reality that in the last general election white Americans never voted for Barack Obama, instead their votes went to Senator John McCain and Barack Obama still won with a land slide.
Now, in your arguement you postulate very eloquently that Barack Obama, as in 2008, today is still viewed favourably by the ‘ethnic American’ voters who overwelmingly voted for him in 2008. My question to you, therefore, is that what in your opinion inform of this idea of a one-term President when all the obtaining factors are status quo. In a nutshell, your arguement is seriously flawed and contradictory.
My friend, I beg to have a dissenting opinion by stating unequivocally, that President Barack Obama will be re-elected to the office of the Presidency of the United States of America in 2012 by the same constituency that elected him in 2008. Please, the dire is cast and I offer myself to bet with you on this.
Thank you.
