kenya is slowly being bought out by these somalis. there is no bias in arguments because all these are valid concerns and they will come back to haunt us. these people will one day set the agenda in this country because they are now amersing power.

by taking away our land they will secure a reason to be here, then all forms of evil will creep in. we all know that in eastleigh there are rumours of slavery going on now what if it spreads and our children start missing. kenyans should be aware of who you are selling your property to.

in m7ni’s country they have sign posts all over land not for sale because they realised before us what was happening and the rate at which people were buying land. now in kenya it seems these money hungry kand owners do not give a crap about their children’s future. when you sell most parts of your own town to people who are not even kenyan somalis how do you exect those in that country to live.

this is a ticking bomb and these fellas will one day demand their right as “kenyans” yet we know they are not.

we have a very credible intelligence yet they just look aside as more harm is slowly creeping into this country. action must be taken quick before all hell breaks loose

Dear Kenyan’s

Okech has a very valid concern here and its so unfortunate that many of rush to comment on issues without even the slightest thought. We are so mad about Migingo, will it be ok if M7 presents us with a valid sale agreement to show that it belongs to UG. Likewise, for the doubting Thomases read todays standard page 3 and see a confession of a pirate.

If we don’t talk, if we don’t do anything, the political thugs in government will sell even the air we breath.

God have mercy on Kenya.

After we have been bought out, what next for Kenya?

This is a serious problem. The Government has sold a big chunk of land in the Coast Province to the Qatais. Kenya Airports Authority has sold some chunk of land off Mombasa Road to some Arabs.

And on a daily basis, Kenya is being sold off. Where does this place the future of Kenya as an independent country.

It is not about hating other people. It is about Kenya and us.

Hello, Country.
It is good to do business as Enock Ombuns says, and we can all sell our
land to Warias and make money, but be careful we may eventually get
displaced out of our own country! Once they buy it they own the land and
they have a right to kick you out or make you their slaves in the end.
Money will not buy you that freedom!
Please the likes of Enock needs to go slow, think hard and deeply, don’t
sell you birth right because money is sweet!
Worried Kenyan lady.

we go by his line of argument, then it is no problem selling out
Kenya’s heritage to the highest bidder (after all it is a free market
economy).

all said, if one analyzes keenly, it will not be late before the big
cities in East Africa are bought out by the dirty monies. i happened
to have had a talk with one bitter somali national who complained to
me bitterly about lack of committment by the East African countries in
finding a lasting solution to somali problem. (I did not buy his
argument because Kenya, for example has tried as a good neighbour to
see peace coming back to somali in vain regret). the fella then told
me that they (somalis in Kenya) have decided to first buy out kenyans,
control the economy of kenya and other east african countries before
dictating the political and economic direction of these countries. i
do not know on whose behalf this guy was talking and i do want to base
my judgement on this statement. however, those in Nairobi will
testify to the fact that there is a lot of money exchanging hands
between the somali nationals and kenyan businessmen (landlords, etc)
and especially in the real property sector. these guys buy kenyan
IDs, passports and anything buyable (if there is such word). a lot
can be blamed on corruption on the part of immigration officials, the
kenyan police, land, etc. if something is not done soon, there will be
nothing left for kenyans by kenyans. i know this might not go down
well with the economists but i belief the economy of kenya should be
in the hands of Kenyas. land being one of the factors of production
it is important for the government weed out corruption and to come up
with a clear policy that would safeguard the country’s future. greed
can run down the country – the global financial crisis can be traced
back to greed. Eastleigh is gone, South C is gone, Hurgham is going,
Westlands is going, buildings and businesses in the CDB are going.
smell the coffee!

two weeks ago some colleagues traveled to north-eastern and were
shocked to learn that within few days, one of the refugee camps in the
area had registered over 5,000 somali nationals as refugees. one
wonders how many entered kenya unregistered only to become kenyans
after oiling the hands of corrupt police and immigration officials. we
need prayers for this nation.

Looking at Owicho’s contribution and noting what is happening
in Real Estate Kenya is experincing a sudden inflow of money
(we don’t know where from). Other countries (US and Europe
seem to be suffering an ouflow or a deficit). So while the US
mortgage industry is going down the Kenyan real estate is peaking.

Looking at the Mercy train (contribution towards famine),
MPESA operations, rate of buying cars and various other
incidences there is a lot of money flowing – money which the
Central Bank may not even be accounting for. Though most of
Kenyans live below the poverty line a number of Kenyans are
able to raise huge sums of money on short notice.

I know it’s a paradox and as per Oparanya the economic growth
index has plummeted but still there is an external injection
of lumpsums of money (money which has not been generated
internally) thus the balance of payment for Kenya should have
gone higher in the last 3 years (unless the money can also
leave the borders as fast as it enters)…

Kenya started MPESA and it worked tremendously (it was a first
of its kind worldwide). The money circulating may take time to
be legitimised but could circumstances be throwing
opportunities on us to turn around the global crisis. Might it
happen that Kenya will not actually be affected by the
economic decline? Of how much impact is the Kenyan economy in
the World, is it at level of dots?

What do the Strategists and Economists think?

Migosi Owicho,
The somalis have many sources of cash- piracy included. One
thing that has made them corupt is the state of the
affairs in Somali- No goverment hence anybody can do
anything without being questioned.
I know of so many somalis who PRINT their currencies and
then run back to somali to change it into ” GENUINE
DOLLARS ” which they then bring back to kenya and change
for the kenyan currency. This is due to the fact that in
Somali- nobody thinks that the somali currency can be fake
( and even if they did- there is no goverment to seal the
loopholes ).This has been going on for some time now and
if coupled with now the PIRATES CASH- we are in for a
looong loooooong rude shock by the WARIAS.They will soon
buy the whole of Nairobi if not the whole Kenya for they
have MBECA!!!!!!!
The goverment of Kenya may not do much because the
printing is done both in eastleigh and somali land.

_*Nairobi has been invaded*_*
*_*22*_^_*nd*_ _* May 2009*_

I wish someone was a little truthful with the state of
the Kenyan affairs.

We have just been given a down cast economic state of
affairs. Kenya recorded a 1.7% growth last year. Most
of this was in the construction sector. And this is
what put me off. How can there be growth in the
construction sector when there is an economic
meltdown? Is this money genuine? Is this money that is
powering the construction industry clean money?

In the US, the economic meltdown is being felt heavily
on the housing industry and the US government is doing
something to cushion the home owners from imminent
loses. On the contrary, our government is recording
growth in the construction industry at a time we all
know there is a problem. And our government is doing
nothing to help Kenyans who are being relegated to
less affluent areas, courtesy of the growth in the
construction sector.

The common denominator here is that it is people of
Somali origins who are powering the growth Kenya is
recording in the construction industry. It is also a
known fact that people of Somali origins are the major
players in the Indian Ocean and in Lake Victoria where
piracy is the order of the day.

Eastleigh Estate has been invaded and most of our
people are being evicted by the high costs of housing
from there. In Gikomba Market, South B and C, and in
Komarock, the same is happening. Most Kenyans are
being evicted from the areas by the exorbitant rents
now being charged. In cases where rent ought to be
Kshs 7,000.00 for a two bed roomed house, people of
Somali origins are coming in and offering the
Landlords Kshs 12,000.00 per month and they pay rent
one year in advance.

Could the ransoms the Somali pirates are demanding
finding its way into our construction sector? Has the
government investigated the source of the Somali
wealth; wealth that makes them pay exorbitant rents
one year in advance? Which is this lucrative business
that is only exclusive to the Somali people? How come
Kenyans who are working so hard cannot make such kind
of money? Some of these things do not add up, and we
need an explanation from our government in defense of
Kenyans.

How many Kenyans can afford such rents? No wonder the
Government is recording growth in the construction
industry. I would have thought the Government would be
taking the interest of Kenyans at heart and protecting
us from this invasion.

Could it be true that the pirates have bought the
Grogan area and hired our police to protect them
against the mechanics?

With all due respect, could it be money from the
pirates that is driving the growths recorded in the
construction industry? Or, is it drug money? What is
the government doing to protect indigenous Kenyans
from this affront? Or do we have people in the Kenyan
Government who are part of the problem?

Are Kenyan’s becoming as xenophobic as the South Africans?

Pirates have started to earn Millions in the last 2 years. But Somalis in Kenya have been successful over a decade. Your arguments do not add up. Its just a case of jealusy. Somalis are worst in Kenya and South Africa. Pirate money is insignificant and it only reaches Puntland and UAE.

You are deluded to believe that the pirates hand out money to Somalis in Kenya so that they could pay extraordinary rental prices.

  2. Somali-slave-owner

i wonder why you poor Kenyans can’t see Indians and Europians,
or may be you enjoy being their slaves,

somalis are your next door neighbors, plus one of your provences is 100% somali inhabited, that means 10% of your own citizens are somalis, please stop this shiiiiiiit, it woun’t do you any good.

  3. ashley

listen the somali money is not from piracy, the somalis have lived in eastliegh and run things with booming business for years, piracy just began, and the somalis are very hard working business orinetated people, who know the tactics, the are even better than the asians, the somalis buy cheap products from china, india, and sell it in most parts of africa not just kenya, they are developing people who have always been known for their business nature, only know because of the civil war in somalia and the recent influx of somalis into the world have people realised the real potential of these people.

lets be honest they are smarter than kenyans and we need them for this country, their money goes into kenya, and they are our african brothers, who else would we want to make money in this country the british whites or the asians, who can we trust more, ofcourse the somalis.

the somalis are very smart and kenya needs them, plus we can never kick out the somalis as alot of the somalis in kenya are north eastern somali kenyans, who has the right to kick them out of their own country, kenya belongs to them and everyone else whos kenyan.

and dont be so ignorant a country with a developing economy needs such business diversity from all groups. its the ignorance and jelousy from you people why this country is so behind, i bet if somalia was peaceful and with a government it would be the richest in africa, because of these business minded people.

  4. somali pirate

So what jaluo, move over kikuys, here comes the normads, we are taking over
be scared really scared cause soon we willing be grazing our camels in nairobi

  5. xaaji

    dear kenyans

please don’t worry about Somalis and there buying out, insha’allah it will not take long before our country is back on the map, we Somalis unlike any other people, we can not wait for somalia to stand up again, at least 90% of the current Somali Somalis in Nairobi will go back once everything settled back home, trust me on that, but considering the fact that somalia will go to another war with Ethiopia as soon it stands up i don’t think our neighbours are allowing us to get up, u have done allot for Somalis more then any other country, even though, your soldiers and police officers have caused us allot of great pain and damage when passing trough your country, …insha’allah we will rise again, and once that happens we will look at kenya as our younger brothers and sisters, coz it will not take long before somalia takes the regional economic power, and we will always consider kenya home away from home,

1 advise do not enter into Somali politics and do not side with ethiopia under any circumstances and we should be more then fine, apparently we have an open discussion with Ethiopia titled ”ogaden” its in the somali constituation that its obligatory for every somali leader to get back the land that’s being occupied by ethiopia,

we have no hate or grudges against our southern neighbours, be happy that those indian haters that monopolized the whole industry for decades are being replaced by your brothers, wo have no desire in kenyan politics or kenyan internal affairs,

    dear kenyan brothers,

somali money in kenya has nothing to do with pirate money we somalis are just business minded people no matter where we are……. her i give u an example…of somalis in the middle east

The largest African community in Dubai is the Somalis, driven out of their home by years of unrest.

Somali businesses line the streets of the city centre, Deira; internet cafes, hotels, coffee shops, restaurant and import-export businesses are testimony to the Somalis’ entrepreneurial spirit.

Star African Air is one of three Somali-owned airlines which have headquarters in Dubai rather than in Somalia.

The Somalis seem to have cornered this niche market for West African jewellery: half a dozen of them are doing brisk business here. “My customers come from Senegal, Mali, Ghana, The Gambia, and from the east of Africa as well,” says shop owner Farhia Islow Adam

Dubai’s proximity, economic climate and infrastructure has served Somali business well. The Somali Business Council in Dubai has a membership of about 200 companies. (Unofficial numbers could be much higher, though.)

Dubai 12 May. 06 ( Sh.M.Network) Many Somalis including educated people, businessmen and professionals have been pouring into UAE, particular in Dubai, Somali professors teach at the biggest universities in the Arab country.

Also in other settlements in UAE there were in creasing numbers of Somali families shifted from Europe, Australia and north America and see the UAE as an Islamic country and at the same time as a country that had a long relationship with Somalia and had more considerations to Somali society

Located in the Twin Cities are the unique marketplaces known as “Somali-Malls”. These large indoor spaces, often containing a few dozen individual businesses each, consist of a network of seemingly random yet intriguing causeways that wind through overflowing fabric, jewelry, and coffee shops. The markets are abundant in life and activity, usually house a central mosque, and also contain space for the offices of many Somali-owned sole-proprietorships and businesses.

the Somali refugees in Minneapolis, one of a twin cities in Minnesota State (the other is St. Paul), made an unprecedented economic miracle and added colour and extravaganza on the sleepy neighbourhoods.

An estimated 20,000 Somali refugees ended up in the US State of “10,000 Lakes” some 10 years ago with only their clothes on their backs. Today the city of Minneapolis is galore with hundreds of Somali owned and operated colourful stalls inside several malls that offer everything from Halaal meat to stylish leather shoes to men’s and women’s latest fashion, gold jewelry, money transfer or Xawaala offices, banners advertising the latest Somali movie, video stores fully stocked with nostalgic love songs not found in the mainstream supermarkets, groceries and boutiques.

Evidently, the Somali community is hungry for movies with familiar contexts and characters. These movies does not, however, reach the screens of other Somali communities in the US and Canada due to distribution bottleneck. Several bilingual newspapers and radio stations, including SOMTV and MAYTV, inform, educate and entertain the Community on hourly basis. SOMTV, however, exhibits as the most watched channel in the twin cities.
“We’re doing our very best to be objective and at the same time invite our audience to send us their own versions on controversial issues,” Mohamed Hussein “Shino”, Assistant Director and Producer of SOMTV told me during an interview. The East African TV is another choice for Somali and other African viewers in the city.

One of the interesting aspects is that the scenario could instantly transports you back to peace time Mogadishu, half a world away.

Walking through the thriving malls, and past well-tended houses isn’t a lot different than walking along the narrow streets of Bakaaraha and Sinai open air markets in Mogadishu

“They arrived here without a single penny in their pockets, and immediately started everything from scratch,” said Yoseph Budle, former Editor of Juba Weekly newspaper, and a man who has gone through the mills of the knotty Somali media in North America. His resourceful data of the Community lifestyle is amazing, and I was privileged to know him. Mr. Budle now runs his own Juba Enterprises, a travel and insurance agency and doubles as the Director of Somali Intellectual League with the motto “TO EMPOWER THE MIND.”

While stalls selling all kinds of merchandises are still dotted all over the well-appointed meandering malls, they include a mix of coffee shops; restaurants video stores and money transfer offices.

“I want to get lost in the crowded Somali malls saturated with small colourful stalls,” says a young shopper who was brought to America by his parents when he was still a toddler, and prefers to express himself in a mixer of English and flawed Somali. He is wearing the ghastly oversized pant and a huge chain around his neck, in imitation of the mainstream youths in America.

  8. Ali

    Hi all,

I have been reading this article and I am speechless of the ignorance and the hate coming the fascist, xenophobic, racist, tribalist author.

Let us remember what happened in Kenya in 2008. All those killing and carnage had been caused by people who use more of the words: “they” and “us”

Today you are talking about Somalis; I will however grantee, you will say tomorrow: “the Jalwo’s are this and that”, The Asians are this and that, the Masai..the..Luos…..etc.

One famous poem quote says: ”

“First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out– because I was not a communist; Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out– because I was not a socialist; Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out– because I was not a trade unionist; Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out– because I was not a Jew; Then they came for me– and there was no one left to speak out for me.”

If we all don’t stand up against these kinds of articles meant to create fear and suspicion.. I would like to ask: To day is Somalis will tomorrow be your tribes turn?

  9. Adan

You can read the IQ of the writer, coz his reasoning is just based on deep seated hate and he did his best to spread it as the virus of HIV to all who can read.

I am Somali and I live in UK. By the way I also have a house in Syria. However, I don’t hear Syrians complaining about my investment in their country. Dubai is selling it’s sky scrapers to foreigners all over the world. I wonder if the writer knows any thing about business!

chill out! the world is becoming is becoming one town. The only thing that matters is the investment. I know many Kenyans who bought their house in UK.

obviously, Somalis are not the only group who have properties in Kenya; my guess is: you have a grudge against Somalis, let us say – One Somali did you wrong in the past and you are bitter about it!

Your hate won’t stop a thing! Somalis are all over the world. They have existed for ages and they will continue to do so, if you like it or not! If I were you, I would try to be successful for my self and forget about what Somalis are doing. That will shorten your life…. Just relax and enjoy life!

  10. Issa

Responding to this poor ignorant guys is very simple and its like this:

First Somalis and Citizens of this Country like any other tribe kikuyu, jaluo bala bala.

Second any citizen of this country have right to buy and do business any part of this country. understand this basic knowledge if you have not gone to school just go back to book its never too late.

third we have experienced the post election violence which was based on trabilism so if you start over again remember somali is a tribe which is one of the tribes of this country and any tribe can’t hunt any other tribe in this country.

all in all do you your business you little loozer I know you loosers, probably coudn’t make KCSE and couldn’t find any job and don’t have capital to start business if you have don’t have the idea and can’t do I somalis do so its Ok you get juleas.

now stop what the hell you smoking and start something for you life.

  11. ALI

I BELIEVE THE KENYAN GUYS WHO STARTED THIS ARTICLE HAVE DISAPPEARED AS THEY REALISED THAT THEIR XENOPHOBIC THOUGHTS TOWARDS HARD WORKING SOMALIS WILL BE CHALLENGED EASILY.

IT IS SAD TO SEE THIS LAZY PEOPLE USING OTHER PEOPLE’S NAME (KENYANS) TO HIDE THEIR HATRED AND FAILURE. BUT ONE THING IS CLEAR THE REAL KENYAN IS ONE WHO INVEST MONEY IN THIS BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY AND GIVE JOB LOT OF LOCAL CITIZENS.

IF SOMALIS GO THEY WILL TAKE THEIR SKILLS AND SUCCESS WITH THEM AND THEN WHAT? WILL THIS GUYS COMPLAIN THAT MASAI PEOPLE ARE TALL AND LIVE BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPE? MY ADVISE IS THIS GUYS HAVE TO SENDTHEIR BEST SONS TO SOMALIS, AS IT IS TOO LATE FOR THEM,SO THEY COULD LEARN FROM THEM AND THEN PASS THE SKILLS ONE TO ANOTHER JUST LIKE JAPANESE LEARN FROM EUROPEANS AND AMERICANS AND THEN BECOME POWERFUL NATION WITH ITS OWN RIGHTS.

  12. Fatuma Aden

It’s a pity to see our fellow Africans’ ignorance especially when they all knew Somali’s are business oriented people, the same people who freed them from Asian slavery and introduced true meaning of self-reliance in this country hence instead of envy, the author should be thankful of their existence because if it wasn’t for them he’d be seeking asylum in foreign soil.
If paying rent has became an obstacle then move to a nyumba ya mabati because it’s reasonable to cut your clothe according to your size; move on Mr. Author

  13. Mohamed

I’ve been a die-hard fun of Raila but when i see the comments from these fellas from the lake with their foreskin on, i cant help but ask ma self if their man’s presidency will mean expulsion of Somalis from Kenya – a replica of what happened to Indians under Amin rule. This really confirms Kenyans worries that Luos are very hostile and lack courtesy to the ordinary. Even at our workplace, the Luo colleagues are very passionate abt their hate for Muslims and specifically Somalis. That is surprising since it can be argued that Kikuyus should be the ones to hate the somalis since the former feel that their businesses have been overtaken by the latter’s ventures. Let’s all live peacefully together or we perish!
