Kenya: Minister Kosgey’s car was ordered out of Mbita ferry to pave the way for mrs Ida Odinga’s vehicle

Reports Leo Odera Omolo

AN ugly incident occurred at Luanda Kotieno beach last Sunday in which the vehicle of the Minister for Agriculture DR Sally Kosgey was ordered pulled out of a ferry destined for Mbita point to give room for the limousine carrying Mrs Ida Raila and two other vehicles carrying her entourage and security personnel.

Both Mrs Odinga and Dr.Kosgey were heading to Rusinga Island across the Nyanza Gulf to attend the burial of Mrs Damaris Auma Odhiambo, the mother of the ODM nominated MP Ms Millie Odhiambo.

Dr Kosgey had come to the Luanda Kotieno in time to enable her to board the 12 noon ferry. The ferry had already cruised in the water for about 600 yards when Mrs Odinga and her entourage pull up at the jetty. She phoned the Ferry manager asking for the vessels to be returned ashore, but the manager Mr Jamali appeared to have been somehow reluctant to obey the order arguing that doing o would disappoint his passengers. But he succumbed to the pressure after the Mbita D.C. phoned him and ordered to turn the vessel back.

He obliged and upon coming ashore it was discovered that Mrs Odinga had two other cars, which included the one ferrying her security details. The situation developed into a very ugly one when three other vehicle including the one which belonged to Dr.Kosgey were pulled out. The manager frantically argued that one of Mrs Odinga’s car be left behind so that he could return for it to allow the Minister car to be taken across, but Mrs Odinga could not hear of this.

The Minister despite an assurance that the ferry would return for her and her vehicle appeared o have been disappointed because he had driven all along from Eldoret to Lund Kotieno about 160 kilometer for the purpose of attending the burial of the mother of her parliamentary colleague.

The incident has been condemned roundly by several Nyanza leaders who felt the treatment meted out to Dr. Kosgey portrayed the highest degree of excessive arrogance on part of Mrs Odinga.and the Mbita D.C. A solution could have been found in which Mrs Odinga and her security details taken aboard and one of her vehicle could have been left behind to allow Dr Kosgey to attend, and the ferry could have come back for the vehicle left on ashore.

Jamal said he was disappointed and pleaded with the Provincial Administration always to make early arrangement for the transportation of VIPs and the one bigger and one smaller one. The bigger ferry could carry up to six or even eight vehicles while the smaller one could only carry four vehicles.

If it happened the way Leo has reported, then, it’s so shameful! You can’t treat a government minister in such an insulting manner! What image does it give lady Ida! I think people need to act with decorum even if you are a VIP. Such public humiliation may not work very well for Raila’s campaigns for the 2012. People should avoid a situation where power gets to the head before you cross the bridge!

If Raila Odinga is really concerned with how other communities view Luos – which he argues may negatively impact his presidential ambitions – then Raila needs to begin from within his household – and that means he should begin with IDA ODINGA.
IDA is known for her arrogance and unkind treatment even to persons who are important to the cause of Raila’s political pursuit.

  3. Otieno

This is shameful, bad and unacceptable. How many votes did Raila lose in this silly incident? Ida is a spoiler and i detest her arrogance.

The major reason why Luoland is lagging behind in development is because the Luo elites have adapted “DIVIDE AND CONTROL” mentality in order to stay in power!

These elites consider the rest of the Luo population as their personal property to be used in advancing and acquiring wealth. The Luos are fighting fellow Luos to establish who is more loyal to one elite or the other. While this is going on, the elites have failed guarantee the security to the very people at whose expense they are acquiring massive wealth!
People are being robbed left and right, mostly by gangs set up by these very elites to intimidate ordinary people who do not agree with these elites! THE WHOLE ARRANGEMENT HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE “1963”! If a person cannot feel safe travelling between Kisumu and:- Sondu, Homa Bay, Rongo or Oyugis after 3pm due to lack of safety, what are the functions of these “divide and conquer” elites in LuoLand and why must people offer special protection if they cannot return the same favour to ordinary Luos?

  5. akech

If the Prime Minister’s wife requires stringet security details while in Luoland, imagine what the security concerns of the forgotten ordinary Luos with some goats must be like!!!
Does the PM really care about these ordinary Luos?

This is a maliciously false story planted by by Leo Odera Omolo in Jaluo.com and other sites.

For reasons I need not get into here other than what I say below, Omolo is on a one man campaign to smear our other First Lady, Mama Aida.

As to this particular event, what happened as confirmed by people who would know, is as follows:

It is true that both Mama Ida and Dr. Sally Kosgey were expected in Rusinga Island to attend the burial of Mrs Damaris Auma Odhiambo, the mother of the ODM nominated MP Ms Millie Odhiambo.

Both the DC and OCPD were expecting Mama Aida and her entourage.

Hon. Kosgey arrived first at the ferry and her car and several others we directed to park in the ferry.

As soon as the cars were safely parked, the ferry embarked on the about 1hr trip across the gulf.

However, just as the ferry was moving away from dock (about 100 yards away), Mama Aida arrived and upon seeing the ferry leaving, her people contacted the DC, who in turn contacted the ferry.

The ferry captain explained that they actually thought Dr. Sally Kosgey was Mama Ida!

Dr. Kosgey never alighted or even rolled down her windows in her dark government sedan, complete with the flag so one can understand why the dock personnel were thus mistaken.

Having been informed of the mix-up, the Captain immediately returned the ferry back to dock, so Mama Ida’s vehicles can be brought on board.

It was then decided by staff (not Mama Ida) that the vehicles that had been parked, would have to exit first and be re-parked according to protocol, which is quite normal.

At all these times, Dr. Sally Kosgey was in her car and never even rolled down her window and her car exited the ferry as instructed but, rather than waiting to re-park, she just drove off.

The other cars were then re-parked and the ferry took off.

Dr. Sally Kosgey was never asked to leave the ferry and there was room for her car to be on the ferry and even if there wasn’t room for it, there were cars belonging to junior officers on matters protocol, which would have been asked to remain behind and await the next trip in order to accommodate Dr. Sally Kosgey.

Specifically, others whose cars were re-parked and could have routinely been asked to wait were Assistant Minister Elizabeth Ongoro, a journalist and a couple of permanent secretaries, not in that order, who all are junior to Dr. Sally Kosgey on matters protocol.

No one knows why Dr. Sally Kosgy decided to leave but it clearly Mama Ida had had nothing to do with as Omolo maliciously implies in the story.

First forward to yesterday, both Mama Aida and Dr. Sally Kosgey were the guests of Embassy of Brazil in the celebration of Brazil’s 189th Independence Day and both were seated at the same table and both were the only ones who spoke at the event.

In other words, this is a story about nothing, same as the one peddled some time ago about Mama Aida having some tussle of power in New York with some assistant minister when such was not the case.

Now, on this Leo Odera Omolo, my sources tell me he is a supporter of someone vying for the Mbita seat, which nominated MP Millie Ojiambo is also interested in.

I am working on confirming who this Omolo is supporting at the national scene.

    It is clearly not Raila.

Whether Omolo is in the payroll of those bent on “stopping” Raila or not; he must cease forthwith in planting and peddling these exaggerated or false stories about Mama Ida.

I am not amused at the sycophantic outburstslike those of Omwenga. He could be a power broker with absent minded, because in his wholesale condemntion of my report, he relies on what he was told and informed by his sourfces, which in my view may not be credible ss he claims.

My report is based on fact as I was personally present at the Luanda Kotieno jetty. Omwenga may b a died hard suporter of Raila that is democratic rght, but not every Kenya is a supporter of the same.People have got diverse opinion on each political isue.My work is simple, and it is with the seal within the laid down rule of professional ethics.

In this respect I have no aplogyto offer to Omwenga nor am I moved by his lack foresight and simple elementary know how of what a journalist takes to be a big scoop.
The simpl question I am asking Omwenga; Did Dr.Kosgey miss the funeral? Did she drove off in huff? And if so why? Fighting or supporting Raila’s Presidential amition is a different isue altogether. Supporting an aspirant in Mbita costituency is not the mandate of a Mr Mwenga to tell us nor have I got any role to play in it because I am not a registered voter in Mbita. Ir is indeed the sole responsibiity of the electorate in that given electoral constituency. This argument is sounding rather shallow and the work of a mediocre.

Can anyone who knows me better tell Omwenga that I am not a political surrogate nor am I a political hireling, but I am a serious person who does his work without even if the likes of Omwenga would be pleased if I ceased as per his word eiher by way of cruel hand of assassination may be. by either Chinkororo, Amacuma,Kebagoor Sungu Sung.I am not cowed please Sir
    Leo

I am not amused by your sycophantic outburst here. My reporting is based on facts as provided by an impeccable source who was also present as the events unveiled and my version has been corroborated by another blogger from his own independent source: the Ferry manager.

As to your question did Dr. Sally Kosgey miss the funeral, the answer is yes, she did. Did she drive off in a huff, yes she did. Why? I don’t know; this is something as a journalist you should have by now found out. A different source offered reasons why they think she left but I could not verify this with her or her people so I did not publish same.

I have reported what one of my sources told me regarding the Mbita seat, including the fact that you support a candidate likely to be challenged by Hon. Millie Odhiambo, who many assume is friends with Mama Aida.

You can accept this or deny it but that’s what I know as fact.

I have not questioned your seriousness in journalism; I am just telling you what you reported in this story was intentionally slanted to cast Mama Aida in bad light and I need not tell you as a journalist that’s unacceptable.

Just report the facts even with bias as many journalists do, anyway, but not slanted to this heights.

I can make an intelligent guesswork that Omwenga has just deliberately posted his photo in this forum for personal identification with intention of attracting cheap rewards in the form of money, otherwise my report has already praise and acclamation as containing nothing but the truth s reported by someone who was present at the event and not somebody who is told about the event in the aftermath.
What a cheap actor it the traditional graft that is always associated with the Abagusii? Why defend what is indefensible
Leo.Shame on you mr Omwenga for you have engaged me on useless hearsay

  11. Omwenga

    Leo,

You are now going way off the reservation.

Your original sin was inaccurately reporting about this incident involving Dr. Sally Kosgey, now you are off to talking about things you apparently have no full comprehension such as how one can post comments using a social networks such as Facebook with their profile there which has nothing to do with attracting “cheap rewards in the form of money,” an assertion which is illogical to begin with: how is money reward cheap?

Anyway, another blogger verified what I accurately reported about this incident and as far as I am concerned, the record is straight now.

Again, what I told you and would reiterate now is, if you are going to post a news item, it cannot be slanted to fit any agenda you may or may not have.

Your reporting was clearly slanted even beyond the normal bias one can expect from routine reporters.

Mr. Omollo,I strongly detest people from Bujumbura or Angola Msumbiji who takes advantage of having learnt Dholuo to pretend that they are Luo and use that preffered status of beng from a privileged tribe to mock Luo leadership by reporting things of public interest.Iam wondering why you are the chief blogger at Jaluo.com.By taking cheap shots at Ida Odinga you are not helping anyone.Kosgey can talk to Raila if she feels offended by Ida. Going by past political assasinations using vehicles, it is paramount that Ida be parked first. Leaving PM`s wife vehicle can have devastating effects on the coalition goverment.Who is Kosgey? Is she not the one who uses flag to evade traffic?I you talk of Kalenjine votes,Ruto is gone with, no need to please them.Let`s say for example, terrorists plant bomb on the vehicle left behind and then explode it in Raila presence? All I ask for is that you stop by Douglas Memorial Home in Rakwaro Kamwala, so that Aduda Otiya can wash your head thereby waking you up from the deep slumber.Raila don`t have to be president He has been there already. You can continue walking with akala there in Kisumu thinking you are smart ash Luo but will end up nowhere. My advise, just shut the f up?

    Ochieng,Jaluo gi tiende.

I agree with Leo basing on facts of his report.Of course it is ridiculous to unpack a already packed Government minister’s car in order to create space for mama Ida Odinga’s convoy.Just like any other kenyan she should observe the rule of first come first serve.I disagree with this highest order of political sycophancy. It is high time we wake up as Wajaka even as much as we want to hve our own to be the president of this great nation.

  14. KAJUJU

The topic as to whether ida ordered sallys car out of the felly is neither here nor there. That is typical jaluo bravado and that is why they will never see the presidency.Think about it,how would she behave if her husband was to have the real power leave alone the ‘nusu mkate’which exist only in their ever bloated imagination. We need humble leaders yawa.

  15. Migawi

Truth is bitter! Joluo lets accept wrong to
be a wrong but not pamper it . Ida did a big mistake and if anything she was the one to welcome Dr. Sally in her home area, where are the manners!

  16. Onyango K'Olwal

Is that the kind of First Lady we need. She then can be worse than Imelda Marcos of Philippines. For this reason my homeland of Nyanza will always lag behind in democracy and development. I feel embarassed.
