I’m intrigued and disappointed by sections of Kenya’s media that in the past week have been determined in their insistence that PM Raila Odinga would not under any circumstances meet President Obama during his US visit. The point is the Kenyan PM’s trip was to attend the UN General Assembly as well as other side events. Indeed, the PM met and won over former President Clinton in the campaign to conserve the Mau forest. Meeting President Obama was not in the itinerary but,if it did happen,ought to have been a positive development not only for Mr Odinga but for Kenyans in general especially at a time when we are trying to keep and win friends in our painful efforts to regain our rightful place in the community of nations as a progessive and democratic sub-Saharan country. Besides, who are they to suggest to the Obama administration who the President should meet? Well, looking at the picture of the two couples (the Odingas and the Obamas), I can only ask: Who’s smarter now?!
