EFFORTS TO REVITALIZE KANU IN WESTERN KENYA LIKELY TO FAIL AS CONMEN AND SELF-STYLED BOGUS BRANCH LEADERS TAKE THE CENTRE STAGE IN CHEATINGS.
Writes Leo Odera Omolo In Kisumu City.
WHOEVER was responsible in sponsoring and facilitating a KANU consultative meeting in Kakamega town two weeks ago was doing so for mischievous purposes and not genuinely for the purpose of revitalizing the part as required.
Nearly all the officials from 19 branches of KANU in western and Nyanza Provinces were not genuine and de facto leaders from the grass roots, but self-seeking individuals.
Party leaders, particularly those heading the various branches in Nyanza Province, are stunned and puzzled by the recent emergence of bogus KANU officials, who have been busy going around holding seminars, workshops and consultative meetings, even without the knowledge or the permission of the party headquarters.
It has been established beyond any reasonable doubt that these spoilers are being funded by ODM Ministers, mainly for spoiling the party chances of regaining foothold and popularity to enable it regain power in the 2012 general elections.
ODM leaders are hell bent on confusing KANU followers. Most of those involved in organizing series of consultative meetings are always seen hanging around ODM ministers for cheap handouts, and as such cannot organize seminars or workshops on their own.
A source told this writer that KANU leaders are also suspecting an unnamed CEO in one of the sugar manufacturing companies, who is said to be excessively rich and stinking in wealth, as the man using his unlimited ill-gotten wealth by sponsoring KANU meetings. It is being alleged this person is the one bankrolling the activists involving the organizing of the party seminars. The same person has been heard bragging in private that he is the one bankrolling the ODM headquarters.
What this financial lord is up to is not yet clear in the minds of KANU leaders, but he is actively involved in other scams meant to undermine his perceived political enemies either real or imaginary. He is also said to be using his massive wealth in undermining the selected and targeted sitting ODM MPs and even hiring political goons for the alleged purpose of intimidating his political enemies.
But most of these activists are also in ODM. The party leaders, particularly in Nyanza said they will not hesitate from mentioning the names of people involved in schemes hatched to undermine KANU.
KANU national officials from the headquarters have been advised not to have any to dealings with these well known political prostitutes and conmen, masquerading as genuine party officials, and yet they are not recognized at the branches they claim to be leaders.
KANU leaders in Nyanza were unanimous that the party has never sponsored any gathering in the region, which is endorsed by the party national officials. Those highly publicized meetings are the work of individual conmen or ODM moles masquerading and purporting to be KANU leaders and yet they are not. KANU members have been urged to steer clear of these series of illegal meetings.
The stern warning was issued by the KANU branch chairman in Kisumu Town West, Mr. Eliud Auma Ndalo, who appealed to KANU top brass officials, Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, Gideon Moi and the Secretary General, to work out a device of vetting genuine KANU leaders from the branches by using vetted registered names of party officials from the office of the registrar of political parties.
Mr. Ndalo called upon the party national Vice Chairman of the party, Mr. Gideon Moi, to call for the national delegates conference before the end of the KANU. Members want the position of Mr Kenyatta filled with immediate effect, said Mr. Ndalo.
“There is no point for KANU members to wait until January next year, because the current national chairman, Mr. Kenyatta has long defected to the PNU, and therefore cannot be expected to run and manage two parties at ago. He is busy struggling to get foothold in PNU and may no longer be useful to KANU in any way in with his divided loyalty and allegiance .
KANU is an entity on its own right . Kenyatta never sought the mandate from KANU members to merge with PNU, and as such he should be considered as having ditched KANU for PNU”, Mr. Ndalo added.
Many people in Nyanza have disputed the names which were recently published by newspapers as having represented the various branches in the region.. Only quite a few were genuine KANU officials. These were Mr Makambo from Migori, Tom Otieno Alila from Ndhiwa, Japheth Owino {Karachuonyo} and Tom Onyango {Gwassi]. These are genuine officials in their branches. The rest were self-seekers out to help themselves with whatever resources the party could put out for its revitalization and membership drive like the so-called bogus KANU meetings.
Party leaders have urged Nick Salaat and Gideon Moi to make concerted efforts in reaching out to KANU members countrywide instead of concentrating their activities in the Rift Valley Province alone, particularly within the Kalenjin domain. KANU is not a Kalenjin tribal party, but a well organized national political movement, which has served Kenyans diligently for over 49 years, and as such must be revitalize to resume its active role in Kenyans daily political life.
