Every year, consulting firm Mercer publishes the results of its survey of the world’s most expensive cities for expats, and Luanda (Angola’s capital city) always takes one of the top two spots. Cue the world’s media as they scramble to finds expats in Luanda to interview about how they get by. But who cares? The expats are paid a fortune and their companies cover a lot of their expenses; they can afford it. What about regular Angolans? How do they get by?
