FEATURE: FAILED LEADERSHIP IN LUO NYANZA

We have seen alot of high delegation visits, services and now the immortalisation, in the form of a museum, of the Eldoret church massacre. We do not hear about the Naivasha house massacre where 35 Luos were well barbecued. Unlike with the other heinous deaths, nobody want to tell the Naivasha story. There has not even been a single service conducted by that town unlike Eldoret church killing. Nor have we seen any Luo leaders visit Naivasha for this purpose.

How about in Kisumu? Here, that first night of Kibaki swearing in, the police killed 70 Luos. Why don’t we have a memorial service or even a museum showing what that ceremony meant?

The Kisumu massacre is now forgotten, while Eldoret church massacre (as sad as it is) becomes the focus of the violence. What Luo leaders fail to understand is “repetition causes persuasion,” and not the truth. We keep hearing about the Eldoret church massacre and less about the Kisumu and Naivasha massacres. Who do we want to tell the story? I don’t think it is a coalition government job to do it. Let us collect funds and build a memorial in Naivasha and Kisumu, because we have to tell this victims story. It does not matter whether it is true that Luos suffered heavily, remeber repetition creates persuasion, and not the truth. Let us repeat this story for the sake of the victims. I think we owe it to them. Unless we have
become indifferent. While others experienced burned bodies for the first time, Luos had to pick the burned body of Dr. Robert Ouko at Got. Alila fifteen years ago.

    VIOLENCE IN LUO NYANZA:

For some reason there is a new bred of luos who are not only going against all the cultural norms which developed the Luo-pride of self-reliance and Educational excelence to these ruthless breed which is now not far removed from the violent mungikis.
I was first perplexed when primary elections in Luo Nyanz went into a period of two weeks of uncontrolled violence [these were between supportes of Orengo and his relative Bishop Ondiek].
Then came the presidential election then there was this type of mayhem never witnesssed being metted by the Luos and in their own communities.
    And now this!
I urge all responsible Authorities to mandate the rounding up of these vagrants and make them account on how they are earining their livelyhood or go to jail.
If somebody is without a job or not on somekind of training then the only place he belongs to is prison and his crime is being a vagrant!
Police must be proactive against these criminals who sleep all day and terrorise wanainchi through violent crimes.

It is very sad indeed that we the luos suffered alot during the violence and nobody is talking about it now.We the luos should not leave everything to Raila, for example to do us the talking but it is our own responsibility to high light this menace.

My only concern , is that Raila MUST and i say must address the abject povery in luo Nyanza once and for all.The half loaf he destined to get must be felt down by a common man for example by a tout in Kendu bay.He should not re circe leaders for example former M.P S WHO ARE NOW HOOVERING AROUND HIM MAY BE FOR A PURPOSE OR LOOKING FOR APPOINTMENTS.
Any appointment should be given on merit and young graduates who are un employed should be given first priority, Martin(Seychelles)
