As Nairobi Senator Michael Mbuvi alias Sonko is being grilled today by the Parliamentary Committee on Administration and National Security, there are seven tough questions that Jubilee government may fail to answer:

1. Why did Jubilee government fail to act on the early warning signals Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko reported to security organs and intelligence officers that there were plans to key areas in Nairobi, including the Westgate Mall?

2. Sonko claimed that two women of either Asian or Arabic origin had approached him three months ago with information to the effect that the gang, which had rented a house in Parklands and Westlands, were planning a major attack-why did the government fail to act on the report?

They mentioned Westgate Mall, Village Market, Parliament and the Kenyatta International Conference Centre as their targets.

3. After getting the information from the two women, Sonko assisted them to record their statements with the police and the intelligence officers for further investigations, what did police do with the information?

4. Sonko claimed the two women were initially living with the gang in the rented houses but had escaped after being showed the items that the suspects were preparing for the attack- who are these two women, how and where did they escape?

5. Sonko recommends that the National Intelligence Service director General Michael Gichangi removed from office for incompetence- is President Uhuru Kenyatta ready to sacrifice Gichangi?

Just a day after Sonko filed a motion seeking to remove Gichangi from office for sleeping on the job- it has emerged that it won’t be that easy to sack him.

Uhuru may use the constitution and the law that established the National Intelligence Service (NIS), which states that only a tribunal which is formed by the President can recommend the removal of the Director General of the NIS from office.

Uhuru may argue that according to the new constitution grounds in which Gichangi can be removed from office include gross misconduct which affect his integrity, mental or physical incapacitation and death among others of which this doesn’t qualify him to that effect.

It is not only Sonko, Kenyans across the country have demanded the immediate sacking of Michael Gichangi after the Westgate Mall terror attack for failing to prevent the attack.

6. Sonko claims that Senate Majority leader Kithure Kindiki to push for his expulsion from the National Alliance Party (TNA) because he has accused the government of kenyatta of not acting swiftly on the information he gave, should this happen it will not only be the high class impunity but will this solve the insecurity in Kenya?

Kithure says TNA does condone victimization of public servants “who cannot defend themselves” and exonerated security forces on allegations of laxity during the siege at Westgate.

This is because according to Kithure TNA is not a party that victimises public servants who cannot defend themselves. At this point he says Sonko should stop joking.

7. The fact that the chairperson and the vice of administration and national security parliamentary committee are affiliated to Jubilee, will the judgment be fair, free and transparent?

The Committee is chaired by MP, Hon Asman Kamama who belongs to the Party of National Unity (PNU), through its coalition partner NARC-Kenya and was elected to represent the Baringo East Constituency in National Assembly since the Kenyan parliamentary election, 2007.

His co-chair in this particular committee is Hon Ndung’u Githinji (TNA). His Vice Chairperson in the committee is Alois Moses Lentoimaga, MP for Samburu West on TNA ticket.

It is also to be noted here very frankly that when it comes to the decision making through voting the Jubilee will have it since the majority MPs in the committee are Jubilee affiliates. It will also involve which report to take to Uhuru and which one to be left out. They have the number.

The Joint parliamentary committee on the Defence and Foreign Relations and the Administration and National security started investigations into the Westgate Mall terror attack yesterday and are expected to compile their complete report to forward to President Uhuru Kenyatta within a month time.

Three unidentified members of the public will were the first to appear before the committee. According to Kamama the three individuals hold crucial information on the attack.

The committee summoned the Senator after he told the Senate last week he had passed crucial information to the National Intelligence Service and the police on the impending attack but it was not acted upon.

Next week, the committee will summon all the security chiefs including Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo, Director of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro and Interior Secretary Joseph ole Lenku, all of whom have been accused of sleeping on their jobs.

Others will be the department of Immigration, Kenya Defense Forces chief Julius Karangi and NIS director general Michael Gichangi.

To wind up the week, Forensic and terrorism experts will be invited to help make clear the incident which has left many questions unanswered.

In the final week, the committee will visit areas where major attacks have occurred in the recent past. They include Garissa, Moyale, Wajir, Mandera,Mombasa and the Kakuma and Daadab refugee camps.

Real change must come from ordinary people who refuse to be taken hostage by the weapons of politicians in the face of inequality, racism and oppression, but march together towards a clear and unambiguous goal.
