Kenya: Uproar over crime in North Kanyamkago

IS PROVINCIAL ADMINISTRATION LOSING WAR ON CRIME IN NORTH KANYAMKAGO LOCATION?

WRITES JAKOTAE OMORY FROM URIRI DISTRICT.

CRIMINALS have suddenly become brazen and people no longer feel safe in North Kanyamkago Location in general and Rapogi Centre and its environs in particular.

The most disturbing aspect is the involvement of some rogue local youths, suspected to be hailing from North Kanyamkago and Central Kanyamkago respectively, in criminal activities in the location and beyond.

In Rapogi case, the search light of suspicion is squarely on some youths who are constantly tippling in the bars within the centre, without any proper income generating activities or involvements.

There is the Rapogi incident where a lady operating M-PESA business at the centre was robbed 107, 000 /=, when she went to seek out change for the suspected customer.

The incident demonstrated clearly the smell of local youth’s involvement in this thuggery plan, because a stranger could not understand operations of our local businesswomen and trick them within  such a short time possible.

Walk at any centre in North Kanyamkago Location and one out every ten people will tell you that there are known youths involved or colluding with criminals for monetary gains.

Suggestions have been made in the past about the need to use suggestion boxes to tap information from the public who fear to deal with the police directly. Unfortunately, they don’t have phones which they can use to call hotlines.

Whatever the procedures for dealing with the current youths flouting the law, be they foreigners or our local youths, it is important that faith be restored in the ability and capability of the provincial administration to protect the local residents.

Meanwhile, Rapogi residents would like to seek the intervention of the provincial administration to this matter, where a prominent farmer-cum –businessman Mr. Omeso Aboge was robbed of 23,000/= and 7,000/= respectively, with unknown thugs descending on him with blows and pangas mercilessly.

    Omory,

Thanks for highlighting the deterriorating security in this region. Security problems have become a real issue in the entire Migori, Rongo and Uriri Districts. Someone must keep reminding the provincial administration of their duty of providing security to all. We are well aware of how bodaboda taxi operators have been attacked and thier motorbikes taken away by thugs. Shops and homes have been broken into by well coordinated hoodlums.

The most sad thing is that most of our MPs, whom we apparently voted in on the agenda of making the Government to provide security in these regions, have remained silent while the thugs have a field day robing innocent citizens.Their major preoccupation, it seems, is who will be voted in during the next general elections, and not the concerns of their voters.

We are tired of this type of politiking, we want reformers whose actions can be seen on the ground.

    Otieno.
