Dear All
The African Diaspora is defined by the African Union (AU) as “consisting of peoples of African origin living outside the continent, irrespective of their citizenship and nationality, and who are willing to contribute to the development of the continent”. It is my sincere belief that this definition accurately defines your group in Tallahassee and everywhere else in the USA.

It is estimated that African Diasporans are about 39.2 million people in North America alone. Majority of this populace are well educated having one degree or more and earn an average of $50,000 per year. Their contribution to development of the areas they live in is enormous. Although their participation in Africa’s economy through remittance of funds is appreciated, their collective bargaining power is lacking because of lack of strong groupings. They are simply not as well organised or vocal as other immigrants.

In recent years the World Bank has recognized the importance of the African Diaspora organization to the development of Africa and has suggested that a partnership with Africans in the Diaspora for the continent’s development is essential to enable Africa to increase its capacity to acquire, use, and apply knowledge and increase its access to financial resources. Unfortunately, Africans in the Diasporas have failed to organize hence making it difficult for the interested parties to channel appropriate efforts. You will agree that while your organization as well as others from African countries exists in Tallahassee and other areas in the US, there is minimal communication and sharing of information/ideas between these communities. In simpler terms, African Union is non existent in Tallahassee and other major towns.

Recognizing this missing link, we formed a group of Africans in the Diasporas living in Tallahassee, Florida in 2009 called Tallahassee African Coalition (TAC) to serve as a community based group that brings African countries and African based groups in Tallassee together. The main objectives of this coalition are:-
1.To serve as an information resource centre for Floridian businesses and individuals intending to invest in Africa and African businesses intending to invest in USA.
2.To serve as an organization through which African celebratory activities are organized and African high achievers are recognized
3.To provide a linkage through which Africans in the Diaspora needs and contributions can be communicated to the city of Tallahassee and state of Florida administration
4.To organize exchange programs between the city of Tallahassee and African cities and countries
5.Help in identification and nourishing of African leadership and talent in Tallahassee.
6.To contribute in the community based development activities in the city of Tallahassee

As a first initiative, TAC successfully organized an evening of TAC Inaugural Ball to celebrate and reflect on the inauguration of the first African into the White House in the year 2008.
We also organized the first Africa day in Tallahassee in May of 2009

    Barack Abonyo,

How good can a good thing be jowa? Here I give you Two Thumbs and Two Toes Up! We have said it here that not everyone has a nitche to get into politics in Kenya, and that intellectuals need to stick to intellectualism so as to leave politics to ploiticians. However, with this kind of Pan Africanism you are on the right track. I see Dan Oronje of the Raila US Campaign Tour and Hummer Fame is still there? Endelea hivyo hivyo in your colaboration and I wish other towns can emmulate Tallahassee to form AUlettes accorss America towns and mark Africa Day.

Okay, enough praise for you Otoyo, lets get back to our antagonism professor.

    Joram Ragem
