Kenya: Okiya Omtatah in the constitution

from: odhiambo okecth

Did you watch Okiya Omtatah yesterday in ‘In the constitution’ at NTV hosted by Linus Kaikai? If you want to debate Okiya, you must be prepared; this is a man of letters, and he can talk around you and leave you dazed and/or confused.

In this show, my friend Okiya impressed me. He asked two solid questions one of which was never answered, and in my opinion, it was such a critical question.

I will start with the the one that was answered. He asked why Uhuru was concentrating on energizing fish ponds yet we have a whole ocean where we could engage frigates and trawlers for massive fishing which can make Kenya a secure source of fish in the world market. For this, Dr Mwau, the Economic Secretary parried by insinuating that the many fish ponds being built in Central Province were empowering the youth economically bla bla bla.

But the most critical question went unanswered and Linus did not attempt to rub it in. Okiya asked; how come the Government used the tax payers money to bail National Bank of Kenya of her past debts, yet, it did not pursue the proceeds of that debt to make recovery.

I thought this was critical. People borrowed money from NBK which they invested in various things, real estate, business etc. Yet, the Government in bailing out NBK of this debts that were invested in known property and business, did nothing to get the same.

I give credit to Okiya for this positive effort. Let us have the same efforts in helping convert the 9% NO Kenyans.

Peace and blessings,

Oto
