LEO ODERA OMOLO, a Kisumu based veteran journalist has reported that he had received a death threat by a phone call from unknown persons, who told him that someone had hired them to “kill him”.
He narrated that the threatening phone call rang on his mobile phone on Saturday 3rd June. He had just watched an exciting World Cup match on the TV screen inside his bed room, when the caller made a phone call at 11.49 pm.
The caller did not even hide his phone number, which was from a Safaricom Number 0721 660839.The caller had only beeped, and Mr Omolo felt it came at odd time of the night, may be the call was from one of his children who might have been under distress. He made a frantic effort to call the caller back, but the answer from the number repeatedly answered that the caller was a”Mteja”.
The next morning at around 9.15 Am Mr.Omolo placed another call through the number which read 0721 660839 “Sir did you call me last night? The answer was “Yes. We wanted to kill you, someone answered him in a very rude tone. Why Sir, Mr Omolo inquired, adding any reason for that? The person said that someone who is close to Mr. Omolo had paid them handsomely to eliminate him.
The man asked from the other end? Mr Omolo laughed hahaha, but the man said rudely” Unacheka tu!!This is a serious matter and you will see.
Mr.Omolo, however, told the caller that he had nothing to offer, and wished the called good luck in executing his heinous plan and hangs the phone.
Taking it into account that a fellow scribe in Gusii region had ignored a similar warning from callers, and his headless decomposing body was later discovered in Kodera forest in Rachuonyo district about 50 kilometers from the late Francis Nyaruri home in Nyamira district. Two years have lapsed and the killer of Mr Nyaruri have yet to be booked in a court of law.
Shaken and scared to death by the threat, Mr Omolo reported the incident to the Police in Kisumu, who promised they would investigate the matter.
This incident came only two weeks after the burial of Mr.Omolo’s fourth son a school teacher and a budding writer who died in a mysterious drowning incident in shallow water near his Rapogi rural home in Uriri district.
Boaz Jakotaye Omori Odera aged 37 years was a primary school teacher at Piny Owacho Primary School, which is situated only two kilometers from the family home. And Mr Omolo did nt take a chance but immediately reported the matter to the police in Kisumu.
He said he could not figure it out if he had any enemy who would wish him dead, but added “I could not take things for granted. As a reporter I may have rubbed someone’s ‘shoulders the wrong way in the course of my work, but I see nothing serious to warrant such a serious threat to my life.”.
Mr Omolo said this was the third time he had been receiving mysterious phone calls threatening his life.

Let us hope that the Police will move fast to get the culprit(s) before anything bad happens to Mr.Omolo as it would be pointless to nab them after they have carried out their sinister plans.
