YES, we have been under attack from the anti reformists for over 20 years. It begun over 20 years ago when our democracy was raped and political pluralism and choice which we enjoy today taken away. Then came the systematic arrests, detention, torture, maiming and even killing of reformists.
The attack continued despite the spirited fight by the reformers until Section 2A was removed even as Moi clung to it like, dear baby. By the mid 1990s, the pressure from reformers had become too much for the anti reformists and to get some breathing space, they allowed the IPPG agreements.
Slowly, gains were being made towards full democracy even as the KANU anti reform machine of then, the current one on the reforms way kept blocking every path towards reforms.
When the 2005 referendum returned a NO vote, by default, all the KANU anti reformists were in the same side but not for the same reason like all other Kenyans.
Another process begun, the current one, culminating in this August 4th referendum, many of the sticky issues that led to the NO vote in 2005 having been resolved, by and large, over 95% of the draft is exceptional except for a few issues which are not necessarily bad but merely a difference of opinion.
Incidentally, all the KANU anti reform machine woke up to the realization that Kenya is about to get a new constitution. There foremost champions, having accepted the draft, turned around and begun denouncing the gains that it would bring very ably captured by the truthometer. They have been criss crossing the whole country, campaigning against reforms with the vigour only people fearful of their personal interests would exhibit.
A number of efforts to derail reforms kept propping up, the insertion of the words National Security into the draft, a bomb attack at a rally, court cases.leaflets, incitement and threats for which some are facing court cases.
All these having failed, they resorted to the ultimate weapons, propaganda, lies, misinformation and outright deceit which unfortunately they engulfed some civil societies and even clergymen!!!!
Our dear country is under a serious threat, very serious attack on reforms by a clique of perennial and perpetual anti reform agents who have gone all out, buying everyone on their way and doing everything under the sun to ensure we never get the reforms we so dearly yearn for, for which limbs and families have been broken, lives lost and billions spent.
We cannot allows ourselves to be held ransom by a few clique of people who will sell their motherland, people who have stashed billions in foreign countries even as we toil to try and uplift our country. These are the people telling us how bad the draft KATIBA is when they live like Kings on stolen property and our misappropriated taxes. They refuse to allow us to ensure never again shall anyone steal from us with such abando like they did.
It is unimaginable that they have a few die hard followers, even among our young Kenyans, to these young Kenyans, these are heroes worth emulating and following, people who have never been anywhere near the reform path but instead right in the thick of things blocking reforms.
We must all realize Kenya is under threat, Kenya is under attack by perennial and perpetual anti reform agents whom have found solace among some clergy. The good things is that the church is by and large pro reforms except for some clergy who have, for whatever reason, chosen the anti reformers for bedfellows.
On August 4th 2010, get out and give Kenya what it deserves, break the yoke of the anti reformers and above all, make Kenya your country. It has been owned by a few for too long!!!!!!!
Otieno Sungu.
Reforms for Kenya on 4th August 2010!!!!!!
LAND, DEAR LAND IS THE PROBLEM!
The fear is in the loss of illegally acquired land at the Coast and Rift Valley provinces just in case the proposed Katiba becomes law.
Land grabbers are panicking just in case the draft constitution becomes law after the 4 August 2010. The church leaders from the land-grabbing community have turned their back to Jesus Christ as they go full blast in support of impunity.
Moi gave the Rift Valley to the Kikuyu to settle in exchange for being appointed vice president by Jomo Kenyatta. This was a criminal deal first because the vice presidency belongs to the Kenyan people and not to Jomo Kenyatta and secondly the Rift Valley land is not belonging to Moi so he had no business handing it over to Jomo Kenyatta. By this act the two people destroyed peaceful coexistence between two Kenyan peoples. How selfish!
The church leaders who are now bent on derailing the Katiba have deliberately not seen evil in the Kenyatta/Moi bribe. The same leaders are silent on the Kenyatta/Moi deal even though they know very well that it is that deal that has made so many people lose their lives during the PEV and many innocent souls cooling in the IDP camps. It is sad some church leaders have become bedfellows with men and women of impunity.
Tribalism is an excuse for the powerful stinking rich to abuse power and rob the powerless as innocent IDPs of their own creation suffer in the cold wet camps.
Kenyans should wake up to vote ”YES” on 4 August 2010 to take back their country from the few selfish men and women of impunity.
DR ODIDA OKUTHE
During 2007-2008 election turmoil’s, I remember reading stories about Ugandan forces crossing over and killing Kenyans in Western Kenya and Kisumu areas.
Has anyone ever found out who gave these Ugandans marching orders to invade Kenya during that critical moment?
Kenya is still in jeopardy due to the fact that sub-Saharan African elites including African Union are not thinking independently. They are willing to follow orders from western investors without thinking about the consequences those orders may have against their own interest and the interests of their own citizens.
Against this backdrop, the revival of East African Community is now incorporating characters who are taking their marching orders directly from the investors from European Union and United States. On the basis of what is happening in Democratic Republic Congo, Kenya and Tanzania must be very weary about the kinds of characters these foreign investors are/will be shoving down their poor citizens’ throats. Paul Kagame, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Laurent Nkunda, James Kabarebe and his nephew Joseph Kabila are running the show in the Democratic Republic of Congo where close to 10 million Africans have died because these guys have sworn to follow very strict investors’ orders! There are also thousands and thousands of refugees and Internally Displaced People whose lives are forever changed because the investors trading in grains (maize, rice, etc) earn living from the contracts doled out by UNHCR or UNESCO. These investors benefit from events that force poor people out of their lands! May be, they encourage these human displacement events! There are leaders in the Great Lake Region who are actively participating in displacing Africans to these filthy refugee camps. Four of these guys are now members of East African Community with Rwanda being the country whose leader the investors, including the World Bank, would like to be the lead character in the newly revived East African Community. Are Kenyans or Tanzanians prepared for a Kagame’s reign in East African Community?
Let us think about this!
