Kenya: Bunge La mwanainchi Members arrested petitioning for the arrest of Sudan El-Bashil.

Folks,

Kibaki must answer to all these charges. Those who were hurt must be compensated immediately.

I take this matter extremely very serious and we Demand for answers.

Kibaki must therefore be taken to task. We are going to tool-down for one week until Kibaki is handed over to Hague for pending charges just because Reform makes no sense to him. We will prove to him that human beings are not bags of potatoes. Hang in there and keep us posted. I am working on the modalities to press for more charges against Kibaki.

In the first place, Al-Bashir should not have been invited for the Ceremony of Promulgation for Kenya Mpya, what Kibaki is doing is tasting our patients, which has already run out…. Kibaki has showed outright insult to the people of Kenya and this kind of behaviour must stop.

Keep it Up comrades, help is on the way.

Following the promulgation of the new constitution today at Uhuru park.Activist and Human Rights Defenders converged at Jevanjee Gardens and contacted the Human Right Organizations countrywide on the presence of El Bashir presence in this historical event, since a majority of HRDs Organisations shared the same resentment as a majority of Kenyans they embarked on issuing a Press briefing for immediate arrest of the said international criminal whom we are told has already left the country, while we embarked on organizing the street demonstration and picketing the Kenya Police embarked in terminating our procession at Nation media center arresting 2 of our members, although Kenyans are disappointed for his presence in their midst hence the people hopes on new order of things will be adhered to, the invitation of President of Sudan El.Bashir whom is wanted by the International Criminal Court of Justice for the genocide committed to innocent people of Sudan cannot be left to lie low.Kenya Being a signatory of the Rome status of 2002 Kenya Police Terrorism branch under the leadership of Commissioner Mathew Iteere should have embarked on arresting this international criminal, hence they found it simple to arrest the bunge members whom were demonstrating for the arrest of the said International Criminal the placards they were carrying have messages “Arrest President El Bashil Now.”,the 2 arrested have been locked up at Central Police Station one of them badly injured.Francis Kihara and Peter Muli.I have visited them and talked to both of them, they showed me the marks in their bodies the assault and injuries they sustained while being arrested.

Kindly circulate and assist us to question the illegal arrest of activist on Chapter 4 on constitution bill of rights to demonstrate, picket and assembly.

Kenyans to sleep in Police cells for challenging President Kibaki to arrest President El Bashir!

Two Kenyans will tonight spend the night in Nairobi’s Central Police Station after they were earlier this afternoon arrested by a contingent of Senior Police officers and booked after demonstrating against the invitation to Kenya of President El Bashir for whom the International Criminal Court has issued a warrant of arrest.

The two, Mr. Francis Kihara and Mr. Peter Muli, who are members of Bunge la Mwananchi, were among hundreds of Kenyans that took to the streets at 3pm Kenyan time to protest against the presence of Sudanese President El Bashir at the state hosted celebration at Uhuru Park to usher in Kenya’s New Constitution. The protesters had matched peacefully along Muindi Mbingu Street through Kenyatta Avenue to the Nation Media House carrying placards and chanting choruses of “Bashir must go to the Hague!” when they were ambushed by police, tear-gassed, chased and clobbered around in the streets of Nairobi. In the helter-skelter that ensued the police managed to arrest these two individuals.

The demonstrators’ had wanted to petition President Mwai Kibaki through the media to arrest Mr. El Bashir and hand him over to the International Criminal Court at the Hague for presiding over crimes against humanity in Sudan. The demonstration was organized by Bunge la Mwananchi which is a nationwide grassroots people’s movement in Kenya that provides a platform for grassroots Kenyans to demand political accountability, good governance and social justice.

We are following up at the Central Police Station to ascertain the charges with which the two are being held, although efforts so far have been frustrated by adamant police at the station. It is not yet clear with what offence it is proposed to keep holding and perhaps later charge the two with as we have been denied all access to them. We hope to at least be permitted to provide our colleagues with some warm food to fortify them against the long cold night ahead.

We will keep you updated on progress made and as information becomes available. We are in the process of compiling a comprehensive report that will include pictures from the procession that we will circulate shortly.
