KENYA has one of the smallest tribe {community} consisting only of 1,758 people, the just released census has revealed.

The Konso community lives in the expansive Rift Valley Province, which tops other seven provinces with the population of 10,006,805 followed Eastern 5,668,123, Nyanza 5.442711, Western 4,334,281,Coast 3,3285207,North Eastern 2,310,757,Nairobi 3,138,369 people.

Kosno is followed by El-Molo of Lake Turkana with the population of 2,844.. Isaak of the Northern Eastern Province are the third in smallness in population with 3,160,followed by Bung’omek 3,704,Njemps of Baringo are in the fifth position with a population of 5,228,and followed closely by Leysan’s 3,941 population.

The reports have revealed that the Ogiek {Ndorobo} this time has an impressive population at 78,691. In fact the Ogiek are now more than Kenyan Asian whose population has drastically dwindled from 200,000strong at the time of independence in 1963 to only 46,782.

Other smaller tribes include the Orma 66,275,Rendile 60,337. Tharaka 178,908,Borana 161,399,Swahili 110,614, Gabra 89,515,Embuy 324,092, Samburu 237,179.

These five digits figures are in sharp contrast to the six digits of the big tribes led by the Kikuyu 6,,622,576, Luhyia 5,338,666,Kalenjin 4,967,328, Luos are the fourth with 4,044,440 members followed by Kambas with 3,893,157 members.

According to the figures released, Somali whose population figures are highly in doubt are now reported to have surpassed the Kisii with the population of {2,205,669}. Kisii population stood at 1,960,574, Meru 1,654,108, Maasai 841,622,Teso cap the list of the top ten tribes with 238 member, the Kuria of Southern Nyanza has 260,401 members while the Luo-Abasuba’s population stood at 139,271.

The importance of the numbers lies largely in political mobilization than distribution of national resources.

This is because the latter has assumed an expanded criteria among them geographical size, needs of a particular area and national distribution among 47 counties with little regard to tribe numbers.
