SOME Civic leaders at the Kisumu municipal Council have threatened to mobilize residents in demolishing a petrol station they claim has been erected on a road reserver.
The civic leaders said that the structure has been put up without ratification from a full council meeting as is the procedure.
The civic men have at the same time petitionedthemayoSamOkello to Convene an urgent Special Full council meeting where crucial issues
Affecting the town will be discussed,
The civic leaders want the mayor to call the meeting within two weeks failure to which they will exploit other avenues.
One of the civic leaders Robert Otuge of Chiga Buoye who heads the Staff and Establishment committee said that some of the items on the agenda include rampant grabbing of public land in Kisumu by well connected individuals.
Otuge said that the other issue they intend to address is the construction of structures on road reserves without the approval of the council.
He said in Kisumu that a Petrol station is under construction in the town yet the council is yet to approve the same.
Otuge said that some chief officers have been working in cohort with wealthy business people to encroach into public land.
He said they will petition the clerk to convene the meeting if the mayor does not do so.
“We will elect one of us to do the same if the clerk does not similarly do the same” he said.
He said the council has been meeting huge costs where the treasurer is forced to pay for travel expenses of so many people abroad.
Otuge said that has been eating into council coffers.
He said the chairman of the audit committee George Weda has been tasked with looking into council accounts.
