When it comes to politics, there are certainly some familiarities all over the world! Although not a fan of politics, I am always keen on comparing notes.
One of the areas that has been of great interest, has been on the campaign trail. By listening and analyzing the candidates, and their die hard supporters, you will find out that they are always looking for something negative concerning their opponent.
But there is one candidate-Obama, who has impressed me. He has remained cool in responding to some of the attacks. In watching him, I have noted that he knows very well the game of politics. He picks his wars very carefully! Why so?
You see, out there are very learned people; people with very able analytical skills;people who seem to read motive to any little statement made. So, when one candidate attacks another one over and over again, you start hearing the press calling for discussion on policy matters and not on personal level.
Senate Obama’s approach in some ways reminds me of how the man of Galilee daily handled the many attacks aimed at him. If you can, please spend some time studying Mathew, Mark, Luke, & John. In your study, watch out the following:
1.Every time He was asked a question, His answer was, “How do you read?.”
2.Every time He was asked a question with hidden agenda, His answer was, “Do you believe what you are saying or did you hear it from someone else?”
3.Some attacks, He remained silent, never uttering a word! This kind of response puzzled even His accusers
4.No amount of accusation side tracked Him from that which brought Him to this world-to seek and save the lost.
Yes,even in the campaign trail, there is something spiritual to be learned! Senate Obama appears to have majored in the art and science of dealing with his opponents. It’s possible that he learned some of this from the gospels. What about you and I? Have we learned anything from the Nazarene?
Just a thought.
