ODM WASHINGTON DC HOLDS MEETING WITH PARTY LEADER
ODM Washington DC Chapter on Wednesday (June 18,2008) held a successfull two hour meeting with party leader and Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga at The Ritz Carlton Hotel in downtown Washington, DC. The meeting touched on matters affecting ODM such as how to strengthen the party in the Diaspora, recruitment of new members, communication with the party headquarters, openning an ODM diaspora desk at the party headquarters, and how to prepare the party for the next elections.
The meeting also touched on the issues of IDPs, the constitution, and the Grand Coalition. The party leader emphasized on the need to work on strengthening the party slowly but surely before focussing on the next elections since ODM is in a coalition. “You cannot work in a coalition with a partner and each time you meet you are holding a knife”, he said.
The party leader was thankfull to all party members who gave him support in the past elections. He also emphasized on the need to reach out to Kenyans who belong to other parties in the name of peace and reconcilliation. He cautioned against having members in the party who did live up to the goals of ODM. He said that such members were out wreck the party from within and should not be taken seriously.
ODM Party treasurer and Assistant Minister for Trade Hon. Omingo Magara joined the meeting and praised Raila, saying “This man is a great leader for Africa, and in him we have a bright feature”. The meeting that was scheduled to start at 5 pm did not start until 9:15 pm and was chaired by David Opon.
