THERE is anxiety in the Kenya Police and the military over fear that senior officers past retirement age may be forced to go home.

In the Police Force, some of those who might be affected include Mr Lawrence Mwadime, a Senior Deputy Commissioner of Police I and principal assistant to the Police Commissioner, Maj Gen Hussein Ali.

The Director of Criminal Investigations Department, Mr Simeon Karanja Gatiba, who is a Senior Deputy Commissioner II, is reported to have attained the retirement age too.

Nyanza Provincial Police Officer (PPO), Mr Anthony Kibuchi, whose rank is Deputy Commissioner of Police, is also set for retirement.

Central Province PPO, Mr Philip Ndwiga, is expected to retire in two months’ time.

The Deputy Director of Investigations at the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission (KACC), Dr Parmeneas Mutonyi, is among those to leave. Mutonyi is a former Deputy Commissioner of Police.

His deputy, Mr Peter Mwangi, will quit the anti-graft body after allegedly attaining the retirement age.

The Nairobi area PPO, Mr Njue Njagi, also falls in this bracket while Mr Julius Ndegwa, the deputy PPO Nairobi area, is set to retire next month.

Others are Mr Sammy Githui, the director of Operations at CID headquarters and a Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ms Elizabeth Mugweru, in the same department.

At Vigilance House, the Kenya Police Headquarters, the Officer in Charge of Inspections and whose title is Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr Stanley Kinuthia, is among those expected to go home.

Several Officers Commanding Police Divisions (OCPDs) across the country are reported to be facing retirement after attaining the mandatory age. They include Mr Julius Muthuri, the Embakasi OCPD and his Siaya counterpart, Mr Humphrey Wanzala.

In the military, Deputy Vice Chief of General Staff, Lt Julius Karangi, is set for retirement next year while Maj Gen Jones Muthui, the Deputy Army Commander, is set for retirement by December.

A group of experienced senior officers are alleged to be earmarked for retirement by next year. Majority of the officers are in middle level positions.

They include Brigadier Philip Chebe, Lt Col Bosco Odhiambo, Lt Col Dickson Muhandik, and Col Vincent Anami.

In the Kenya Air Force, Colonel Seth Shava, who served as Laikipia Air base Commander and has remained a colonel for nine years, is due for retirement.

Shava is respected as one of the most experienced fighter pilots in the Kenya Air Force.

Impeccable sources said the person who was named as deputy commander of KAF was his junior by six years.
