What Changes We Need For A Stable Kenya

Of the changes that we need for a stable Kenya, not only for the present but also for the future, here are a few that are important:

1. A term limit for the Presidency(we already have that)
2. An independent electoral commission.
3. An independent Judiciary system.
4.  An independent parliament.
5.  A land Commission with implementation power.
6. A tribal clashes commission with power to punish.
7. Vetting of senior government position by parliament.

What we don’t need:

1. Power sharing ( what is the purpose of an election)
2. Prime Minister (a position to divide people and waste money with little benefit to the common man)
3. A coalation government(what is democracy without  opposition)

All of the above can be achieved by constitution amendments or by agreement by all stake holders.

The idea of a reconciliation comission similar to that of post-apartheid South Africa is utterly absurd. Such a commission was appointed when one form of government was replaced by a new and a better one; namely, the end of apartheid paved the way for democracy. Elsewhere similar commissions followed the same pattern.
What is contemptible within the Kenyan event is that the commission is to function by reconciling cruel and heiniously anti-democratic forces with powerful forces representing democracy. The scenario is farcical and precisely worthy of a society at the lowest rungs of intellectual and moral readiness.
Could you imagine De Klerk and Mandela in a reconcialliation meeting with De Klerk acting as president? Only an idiot would support such an event, the likes of Buthelezi or Moise Tshobe would’ve done that.
Anyhow, the fittingly sane option is to reject such an event given the current atmosphere marked by numerous forms of injustice.
The outstanding issues should be addressed before such an institution is created, otherwise the exchanges of ‘pardons’ that would be observed in such meetings would be a sham.p>
