Let the trumpet sound! Joluo must move away from these backward and jealousy prone attitudes if they are to progress. Sani Ziwa has floated shares and how many people are buying these shares? I had a very lengthy meeting in Nairobi last year with the Directors of Ziwa and they were expressing the same sentiments and frustrations. If we can buy shares in Ziwa I can bet my life that it is just a matter of time before Ziwa become a force to recon with. Wuoyo mangeng ok kony. We are too theoretical. It is time for action. And the time is now.

That is true. Too much talk that is not constructive or progressive will not drive away the poverty and the despondency existing in that town and region. I have worked in that area with an international humanitarian organisation and was appalled at the attitude of our people. They question every single initiative and throw hurdles on the way. They petty politic about all the things and even question the reasons behind the initiatives. Nyanza (Luo) has one of the worst health indicators when you go by Infant Mortlity, Maternal deaths, number of latrines, disease incidences arising from preventable diseases. You take latrines there and even provide materials to construct them and they begin to question “Why?” and yet the people are dying!
Does Dominion ring a bell?????? Politics, politics and politics. The more we oppose all systems and initiatives who are there to help alleviate some of the socio-economic quagmires, the more we become a blessing to other neighbouring regions especially, Kisii Nyanza, Kuria and the neighboring Western districts.
For over a decade WEDCO (Micro-enterprise) roamed Siaya, Bondo, HomaBaya and Kisumu districts (the former) and the results were so pathetic. You train the beneficiaries, you guide them, you help in marketing but they are not sincere. They do it half-heartedly. The loan repayment was so demoralising and I believe, amongst other factors, thius contributed to the collapse of the organisation. Recently Opportunity International launched products and again they have their headquarters in Kisumu. The scenario is that the best loan repayment records come from out of Luo Nyanza. When will our people wake up and work hand in hand with the organisations present to assist us??? Please, let us show our interest in kicking out poverty by cooperating. That is my humble submission.
