De Kenyan police force are da least read

Dey is an ignorant lot only well versed

In de art of wielding batons an guns

If only dey was not ignorant

Dey woul never attack de masses

For dey woul recall wha happened

Durin de riots in

Brixtan, Burma an Chapeltoun

When de masses clashed

Wid em cops real bad

If only dey was not ignorant

Dey woul recall wha happened durin de

Soweto uprising, Kibera uprising

Yes de Kibera uprising wen de

Masses went pound to pound gainst em

Lard!

De Kibera massive just pulled out de

Railway like it was straw

As de cops watched in awe wid em

Guns held in hand trigger too hot to pull

In Soweto, dem just hurled dem African bombs

At de cops like dey were nuclear bombs

If only de Kenyan police were not ignorant

Dey woul recall de time

Wen de hawkers in Nairobi got hold

Of one a dem comrades an licked im up

Real bad wid his gun still in hand

Jeez! t’was a bloody riot

An one policeman did dead

Yes did dead by de masses

De Kenyan police force is

De least read force in de world

Yes de worst knowledgeable in de world

Coz if dem woz well taught

Dem woul recall how de masses

Went grain to grain

Pound to pound

Wid dem foolice force in Harlem

An dem woul always let de people demonstrate

Against de rogue establishment

However, de Kenyan police force is just

A foolice force made up of baton wielders

Corrupt constables

An assassins!

Yes, assassins remember Kisumu 2008

Unfortunately fi dem de masses

Will still go pound to pound

Gainst dem wen need be.

Goliaths have taken over de land

Goliaths have taken over de East

Goliaths have taken over de West

Goliaths, goliaths all over de land

Goliaths have taken over de politics

Goliaths have become pollytricksters

Goliaths have taken over de South

Goliaths have taken over de North

Goliaths, goliaths all over de land

Goliaths have taken over de economy

Goliaths have run doun de economics

Goliaths have taken over de environment

Goliaths have polluted de environment

Goliaths have destroyed democracy

Goliaths have embraced dictatorship

Goliaths, goliaths all over de land

Gong sound thunders and de people

Grow restless and devise ways to destroy goliath.

Yu can kill a goliath using a rock and a sling

Yu can kill a goliath by using a rock and a catapult

Yu can kill goliath by poisoning its food

Yu can kill a goliath by shooting it wid a rifle

Yu can kill a goliath by burning it doun

Yu can kill a goliath by mashin its brain in

Yu can kill a goliath by bombing it

Yu can kill a goliath by spearing it

Yu can kill a goliath by boxing it to death

Yu can kill a goliath by bustin its head

Yu can kill a goliath by cutting its air supply

Yu can kill a goliath by chasin it away

Yu can kill a goliath by holding demonstrations

Yu can kill a goliath by sharing power with it

Yu can kill a goliath by ousting it from power

Yu can kill a goliath by voting it out en mass

Yu can kill a goliath by ex communicating it fram church

Yu can kill a goliath by praying for it

Yu can kill a goliath by ignoring it all together

There are many ways to kill a goliath however

The method used should measure to

The extend of the notorierity of the goliath.

Justice GBM Kariuki was arrested last year on allegations that he had stabbed a motorist, Mr. Robert Karori Kamau on 18th October 2008.

He was arraigned in court, given bail, and by yesterday, his case had been dealt with; by the Judiciary!

He was acquited for lack of compelling evidence. This was indeed very commendable. The Judiciary handled his case with such efficiencey that they had to release him with speed. How many Kenyans whose cases were taken to court at the same time have been given such efficient Justice?

This is the irony of the Judiciary and again, Kenyans must stand up and be counted on Judicial Reforms. We all need such efficient dispensation of Justice, not just because you are Justice GBM Kariuki, but because Justice delayed is Justice denied.

In the meantime, who stabbed Mr. Robert Karori Kamau?

Odiambo,
This shoild not surprise you since they were dealing with one of their own, cant you remember the Judge whose Credit card backfired vs Kenya Commercial Bank? now my suggestion would be that as we review the constitution and as we clammier for judges and magistrates to sign those contracts, we need to have time lines included in the constitution so that its well in black and white how long one should take to dispose of a case and should it go beyond then it will be declared time barred hence dismissed. that way they will all be racing against time, we can then use that to evaluate who is sleeping on the job.

Kabaka’s Information Minister and an MP appeared in court on sedition and terrorism charges

From: Leo Odera Omolo
Date: Tue, Sep 29, 2009 at 9:31 PM

Before being brought to court under tight security escort, the two had spent close to six hours at the CID headquarters, which is located in Kibuli suburb of Kampala, and were later placed in the cells within the court corridors for another couple of hours.

A police source at Kibuli had earlier informed the MP Lukwago that an additional charge of abetting terrorism had been added to the sedition charges against him, after a close analysis of his personal file. But when he eventually appeared in court, he was only charged with inciting people to violence.

The MP Lukwago was granted a free bail of U.shs 2 million plus three sureties bonded on U,shs 1 million each. The Democratic Party{DP} President, Mr John Ssebaana Kizito, and MPs Moses Kabugu and Issa Kikungwe, both of DP were bonded on sureties of U.shs 1 million each.

At the same time, the Buganda’s Information Minister, Medard Lubaga was granted free court bail of U shs.2 million with two sureties of U.shs 5 million each. Betti Kamya [FDL} and Mr Buyiga Lukome stood sureties of U.shs 5 million each.

The Buganda Kingdom’s Attorney General, Mr Apolo Makubuya appeared In court as the lawyer for the defense of the accused persons.

The charge against M Lukwago alleged that on September 9, 2009, he appeared on the now suspended Akubuzi Kubbari FM Radio station, to oppose the Kabaka’s visit to Kayunga district. It was this aborted visit, which sparked off the bloody rioting in Kampala City on September 11th 2009, resulting in deaths of more than 26 people and close to 500 being detained by a combined dragnet mounted by police and military forces.

On the same FM radio station, according to the facts presented to the court by the Prosecution, the MP Lukwago also made some utterances in which he implied that it would be desirable to commit “acts calculated to lead to destruction or damage of property”.

The Buganda’s Information Minister Lubega, on the other hand ,was accused by the prosecution of making statements intended to bring about hatred, contempt and public disaffection with the government of Uganda.

“The government went ahead and installed a pretender claiming to be the leader of the Banyala community with the Buganda Kingdom, who is not from the royal family in Buganda, and this is the person called Baker Kimeze”, MP LUBEGA was quoted as having told the listeners of the Radio Station which belonged to the Buganda Kingdom.

He is said to have added, ”This is the man the government of Uganda wants Kabaka Ronald Mwenda Mutebi to first ask permission from in order to visit his subjects at Kayunga, an act, which cannot be acceptable because the late father of Capt Kameze, Nathan Mpagi has never been a leader of the Banyala community”.

The court prosecutor, Mr Festo Nsanga, according to a front-page article in today’s [Tuesday} edition of the NEWVISION, was vehemently opposed to bail application, arguing that the two accused persons were very influential personalities and therefore were likely to interfere with the police investigations currently in progress. The chief Magistrate, however, disagreed with the prosecutor, saying he offenses were bailable.

Earlier, the two accused persons had spent most part of the morning hours at the CID headquarters, First to arrive was MP Lukwago. He was accompanied by several people; both opposition MPs, top officials from Mengo, sympathizers and his lawyer.

Lubaga turned up at the CID headquarters voluntarily and told the journalists that he was tired of rumors making the round that the police wanted to arrest him. After presenting himself, Lubega emerged waving some documents saying it contained the charge sheet.

The police, according to impeccable sources in Kampala have also issued summons to Ms Betty Namboze, an outspoken Buganda Kingdom loyalist, and one Moses Kesibante, a talk-show host with the now closed down CBS FM Radio Station, also owned by the Buganda kingdom. Both the two will be charged with sedition.

Attempts to malign Omtatah regrettable

Subject: Attempts to malign Omtatah regrettable

I have followed the debate as to whether Nd. Omtata should withdraw the matter in court on the legality of RIngera’s reappointment or not.

What has shocked me is that there are Kenyans who have gone to town asserting that Omtatah has or is to be given money if he keeps the case in court. It is believed that the courts will rule in favour of Ringera’s re-appointment by Kibaki and therefore secure his stay at the helm of KACC. So Omtata has been bribed to keep the matter in court for Ringera to be installed permanently at the KACC vide the reappointment.

I find this assertion by a Mr. Koliech on the internet but indeed as I have heard from other colleagues on the Nairobi street and the movement in the civil society very disturbing and dangerous.

I have had to now give my personal statement on this to say that I find this malicious accusation against Comrade Omtata unfortunate, cowardly, sad and dangerous.

While I personally have requested Omtata to withdraw the matter and I respect the fact he holds a contrary and reasoned view, It is dangerous and cynical to personalise a matter that Omtata took to court with others and to indeed use this as an opportunity to try to assasinate Omtata.

During Moi’s years in power, the easier way to destroy a colleague who held a different view from yours was then to simply say that he was a KANU mole who had eaten Ugali at state house. This way of discourse or working against discourse is dangerous.

In 2004, NCEC led by Rev. Njoya filed a case before the court demanding that the constituion be negotiated and written by elected delegates of the people at a Constituent Assembly and the same be ratified through a referendum. A certain political wing of NARC labeled NCEC and Rev. Njoya a traitor who was working against Bomas and the people’s constitution. They went to town with rumors that people had been given money etc to keep the case in court.

In the end the court granted the Referendum and said that Bomas although not a constituent Assembly had already done the work and therefore the constitution Draft Must be subjected to the referendum to get the seal of approval from the people of Kenya. That is how the Wako Draft was defeated by the people at the referendum of 21, November 2005.

I strongly condemn attempts by people who for lack of strong and plaudable arguments resort to character assasination.

How do you guys maligning Omtata think you are going to gain by attacking one of our most gallant Human rights activists? Why don’t you differ with Omtata and state your opinion any way without descending to the levels you currently have descended to?

Mwangi Wa Nyambura: You make a brilliant argument, but you spoil it with the last paragraph. It is precisely because of impunity that we have IDPs, Mau, PEV, Corruption, etc. And that impunity is because we have rubished the constitutional controls, checks and balances that the doctrine of separation of powers ensures. And you are spot on that MPs have been sleeping on the job by not curing, through legislation, the law that allows the President to virtually appoint all judges, making the Judiciary a tail of the Executive not an equal.

@ angaluki: Your opening misses the debate by far. The committes only deal with subsidiary legislation – where ministers place their proposed action (through ministerial policies) before the committees for 30 days for approval. And that is legislation. Now, a gazetted legal notice is not subsidiary legislation; it is not a proposal but an outcome. Hence, just like Parl;iament cannot convert into a court to try a murder suspect, it cannot do the same to declare a gazette notice illegal. The words ‘illegal’ and ‘annul’ are language for the courts of law.

Parliament is not greater than the other organs. For example, the courts can strike out a law made by Parliament if they interpret it to be against the the Constitution of Kenya. Equally, the courts can annul an executive order if it is inconsistent with specific laws and the constitution.

What we should read from parliaments actions is that they rightly fear going to the courts against the executive because they will not get a fair hearing.

But guys you both make very brilliant and quotable observations.

NB: If the courts don’t annul Ringera’s second term then he is entitled to Kshs 150m termination fees.

Thanks.

Wa Nyambura,

You got the whole interpretation of separation of powers wrong. Your point of departure should be the question, “What is the role of parliamentary committees?” After that, you need to understand that it is not Parliament that disapproved of the re-appointments, but parliamentary committees, although this may have been or may be debated by Parliament. I think we tread on very delicate grounds and we risk creating very dangerous precedents when we approve actions of impunity by those we support, and only find fault with exactly the same actions when perpetrated by those we oppose. If we hope to build a culture of the rule of law, we must be willing to recognize wrong as wrong, whether it is perpetrated by those we support or oppose. Otherwise we lose moral authority to criticize those we oppose for doing what we approved when it was done by those we support, and in the process promote selective justice.

Let me throw spanners to the works on this issue for Ringera.

For starters ,parliament is the supreme law making body of any democracy. It does not give effect to the laws they make but to the executive to ensure the laws are implemented. When the executive does carry out such execution wrongly they are stopped by the courts which interpretas what the intention of parliament was in coming up with the law .Hence the whole issue of seperation of fuctions of this three arms of the goverment..

In this charged debate of Justice Ringera ,Parliament made the law on its composition, appointment and reappointment of its top organs. In effecting the law as mandated by our constitution the executive in its wisdom or lack of it interpretated it had power to reappoint.Parliament said no and argued that the executive erred in its interpratation of that law. However ,and my point of departure ,parliament interpretated its own laws leaving the judicially out on this matter which by law is the institution that has the mandate to hear any disputes emanating from the abuse of power from the executive.Whereas we are commending parliament for rediscovering their power should we forget that its them that crafted the bad law that now pits the three arms of government? What if parliament tomorrrow legilsalate to make the parliamentarians life members of parliament. Will they be in order ?What am saying is that if we fight for constitutio nalism it must be practised by all institutuions including parliament.Remember in parliament debates not all the 220 members get opportunity to “get the speakers eye “hence debate is not on many a times evenly debated as opposed to the courts where all the parties get a fair hearing.

If our parliament tells us our Judicially is incompetent ,who has the power to make the right chages but them by ensuring that they put the right mechanisms of appointing judges. That they have not, means that they have not done their job well either.Let me ask where are we to get the “good judges” since we believe any one in those positions will be corrupt. How many judgements that have be pronoused that are against the executive?

Lastly,Justice Ringera has on many occassions said withiout prosecutorial powers his body will achive little. It’s parliament that has refused to give him legal powers to prosecute yet they claim Kacc has not done well in its mandate.Thats hypocricy of the highest order. Many of the parliamentarians are the crooks that are being investigated hence the heghtened interest they have on the matter .Its not for the comon good of Kenya but self preservation.Which is more serious to deal with Ringera issue upto to thedead of the night or deal with drought.idps ,Mau?Unfortunatly we have fallen for the gimmicks of the politicians and once Ringera goes i20can assure you nothing will change in the fight on corruption .Who ever comes will take our kshs.1.6m per month and after a while we will join our hands again cry for his blood,he goes and another comes and the music will continue. Parliament will continue as the choir masters and we will be the chearing lot.Meanwhile Ringera and those that wil have joined kacc and left with the millions will join politics and the song for anti corruption will become even lounder. You and me and our children by that time , because we belived the same fellows who have refused to pay taxes return the fuel guzlers , will be singing praise songs to these ringeras kibakis. rairas etc as our saviour to another monster that they parliamentalians will have created.perhaps they will have packed the air for sale.OPEN YOUR EYES DEAR KENYANS

Mwangi Wa Nyambura

From: Okiya Omtatah Okoiti
Sent: Sunday, Sep tember 27, 2009 1:55 PM
Subject: WHY KENYANS MUST STOP JUSTICE RINGERA GOING DOWN WITH KACC

We are reliably informed that since it now cannot pack the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission (KACC) with it’s cronies, epitomised by Justice (rtd) Aaron Ringera, who is himself to be investigated by the KACC Advisory Board for protecting corrupt politicians and tycoons by withholding evidence on file from prosecutors, the Executive’s new game plan is to provoke Parliament to the point enraged MPs will blindly scrap KACC. And once KACC is scrapped it will die with all the good work it did over the years. The KACC evidence will become redundant and the corrupt will walk free.

It is a fact that though the scam bugs have not been prosecuted, some cases have been thoroughly investigated and, put in hands more capable and willing than Justice Ringera’s, quite a number of senior politicians and tycoons will be nailed.

That is the nightmare scenario that the scheming Executive hopes to avoid by enraging our MPs to20the point they will scrap KACC and all that it represents. So, when Justice Ringera contemptuously taunts and dares the entire Republic, we must understand that he is being a polished actor in a well scripted play. His brief is to get the MPs so angry they will gang up like a bloodthirsty mob to scrap KACC.

Already, in their characteristic posturing and grandstanding in the heat of the moment, we have heard quite a number of MPs tactlessly chest thumbing and threatening to do just that. They think that by scrapping KACC they will “strike a blow against impunity and teach Justice Ringera and President Kibaki a lesson.” Really?

Parliament has political tools at its disposal which it can use with equal or even greater mischief, to fix the Executive. These tools include frustrating Government Bills on the floor of the House; censoring then naming hawkish ministers; starving KACC of funds; and, ultimately, even scrapping KACC.

Nevertheless, for reasons stated above, the MPs should rule out this last option. KACC must NOT be scrapped! The war against corruption must not be lost in the heat of the moment.

But will the MPs save the organisation, given that some of them, their friends, and relatives are under investigation by KACC for corruption, and stand to benefit when the anticorruption watchdog is no more?
Hence, the onus is on ordinary Kenyans to save KACC by boldly standing up and demanding the unconditional exit of Justice Ringera and Ms. Fatuma Sichale. That will not only save KACC, it will allow for the proper legal procedures laid down for appointing the Director and
Assistant Directors to be followed.

Excuse for not being rich ….. mindsets!!!

YPS_Ke,
Hallo fellow good Kenyans.
Sometime back a member of this forum did try to have fellow members state their reasons for not being rich and the excuses were wide and varied.

Well whatever your excuse is Harv Eker in his book “the millionaire mindset” classifies you into 3 class categories.
1. There are those who blame everything and anything….the government, our politicians/leaders, economy, place of work, education level, stock market, fellow employees, customer service, your parents, your partner if married, your family…..the problem is anything and anyone but you!!!

2. Those who try to justify…..they’re broke! They say “money is not that important, after all, it can’t buy life, happiness” etc. Most likely they’re perpetually broke and they thus try to find escape route for their brokeness. Yes money is not that important in some areas of life but important in other areas!
You cannot pay your house rent with love? You cannot buy food with love, can you? Yes now you realize how money is important in life, but not all the areas of our lives! Always, think of just being comfortable in life! You go to certain joints only because of “market prices”…..look at who frequents the 5 stars hotels, and those who go to the ones on T-Mboya avenue!

3. The complainants, always focusing on what is wrong with their lives rather than what is right with it! They have a tough life and aim low in life….just to survive! It is arguably the worst state ever to have yourself in! Most likely you attract the same kind of friends in your life. Avoid being a complainant, there is more for everybody in this world and even more than for those who are willing to wake up and pursue the opportunities to be wealthy!

It is time you sat down and thought hard about achieving financial freedom. Work towards regular saving and investing to be free from financial bondage! Whatever you heard while growing up about money/being wealthy……discard it and form your own blueprint about success and wealth, you can have it all!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only if you feed your mind well and have the right mindset then all is possible…..

Have a wonderful day YPS and let us open up to share more!

Regards
Josiah Onyango

Fairwell, Mr. Kennedy

By Jd Brown

We buried the “Great One” Sen. Edward Moore Kennedy in Arlington National Cemetery yesterday. Kenyans this is your lost too!. The Kennedy family was instrumental in helping Kenya students with ” airlift fares ” to come to US for their education in 1960s, sending Peace corp to Kenya in post independence days and the recent historical election of ” one of your own” President Barack H. Obama.

Kennedy was more than “the lion” of the US Senate where he served more that 47 years…he was the” champion of the underdog”. US public laws are named after elected officials who author them and get them passed into law. For 47 years in the Senate Kennedy helped, championed and passed: Civil right laws, Disability act law, Minimum wage laws, Immigration laws and numerous health care bills.

To my friend who hale from east coast of Kenya here are your answer on how “Wasungus” handle funerals for their accomplished politicians like Sen. Kennedy. Kennedy’s funeral was celebratory of his achievements when he was on this earth than mourning his death. Public viewing was open to all. There were NO politics by politicians. Ex-Presidents and current President came and got the same attention like other guests in attendance. Kennedy’s friends spanned beyond his Democratic party base. Republicans who have for many decades fought him over major legislations in the Senate came to pay him homage.Effective political leadership call for going beyond ones political base without compromising principals for what you stand for and no one lived this philosophy better than Sen. Kennedy. These are my observations and what Sen. Kennedy’s legacy will mean to me in many years to come.

In all, Sen. Kennedy was ” work horse” not like many politicians who are ” either jack asses or “show horses”. He was a man of action and results. Where many politicians are only concern with their status in society and the posts they hold in public offices, Kennedy opted to fight for the “little guy”!.

Among the many legacies Kennedy left behind none will be bigger than the election of President Obama. Without his unconditional endorsement in primary elections and ” passing of the Torch” to him and the call for new generation to lead and get involve , Mr. McCain and Sarah Palin would be in office today!. Listen to his mortal word: ..with passing the torch … new generation of leaders must get to work..hope will rise again..dream will live on”. Words spoken during at democratic convention in Denver for Obama change election in Denver.

Mr. Obama would be still serving in the US senate as we speak without the Kennedys support!. He saw something ” the IT” in Obamas’ leadership ability that reminded him of his slain brothers in US political struggle. Again, for people who don’t know how difficult it is to overcome race and party politics in the US, this endorsement was not an easy task. For over 200 years plus of US democracy nobody predicted or knew that some one of Kennedy’s stature could endorse minority person to be the next president of the US and the leader of the world in their life time!!!!!. And most of all, to endorse Sen. Obama over stalwart democratic party insider/mover like the wife of former President Clinton of all people was “game changer” in US presidential politics . THE LION MAY REST..BUT HIS DREAMS WILL CONTINUE BECAUSE THEY ARE LEFT IN GOOD HANDS!!!

For my E. Coast Kenya friend, these are the things Kennedy did to ” the world’s “underdogs” and to your far distance country man to become the first African American president in the US. Now he is leading the land where his ancestors were brought to work in cotton fields and lives in house his slave ancestors built for their masters..what irony!!!!

I hope you and and your friends will share my one man’s observation on Sen. Kennedy’s contributions to better this world!!. The” underdogs” of the world have lost and will miss their champ!.. but all is not lost, the sun will rise in the east and set in the west tomorrow!. News leaders will rise to lead one more time..and the “dream will endure”

Now I have answered your questions my friend, you and your friends should now answer me the following questions: How do you remember your fallen leaders in funerals?, Are your funerals off limits to politics or the other way around?, If President Obama was running for Presidency in Kenya could have been elected president or he could have just been another tribal politician?

PLOT TO SELL ANAC AND NIDO UNCOVERED

All Nigerian American Congress is not for sale, many of us labored for about 5 years now to build up this organization, and would defend the honor and integrity of this organization to the last. Few ANAC BOT members did not understand the wisdom of currect ANAC actions to save the organization from being sold to the highest bidders in Nigeria. New bombshell has been uncovered, here are some excerpts

“Reliable sources disclosed that the attempt to politicize NIDO and ANAC the two leading None for profit NGO groups which represents the interest of Nigerians abroad are already underway as many of the NIDO, and ANAC Board of trustees, and leaders have been sold this idea with promises of leadership positions in the PDP party wing or the Political Opposition party, should such opposition party option becomes necessary to contest against the Yar’Adua wing of PDP. At the time of this report, names of the leading PDP leaders, Senators, Congressmen involved in the planned “Diaspora Vote” Strategy are been investigated, however Senators reportedly from the North East and North Central regions have been named as prominent.

The current attempt to politicize the Nigerian Diaspora Organizations have not been taken lightly by the many leaders in the Nigerian Diaspora, recent actions in top ANAC leadership has resulted in the ouster of the former chairman of ANAC the Nigerian based Akeem Bello, who together with Prof. Isa Odidi were Presidential candidates for the New Democrats party in the Nigerian 2007 Presidential election. Mr. Bello was removed by the ANAC Board of Directors and Trustees from the leadership of ANAC and replaced with Prof. Martin Okafor for numerous of reasons which included his role in the continued attempt to seize the non political ANAC, for purposes other than what the organization’s Constitution has mandated and its Board of Trustees had authorized; formation of NDERG (Nigerian Diaspora Election Reform Group) actions the Board of Trustees viewed as conflict of Interest and taking the organization into a Political Party advocacy which may adversely affect their Non for Profit status in the United States and in direct violation of the ANAC Constitution.”

Call for Submissions –
Postcolonial Text: Special Issue: East Africa

Christopher Wanjala (ed.)

Postcolonial Text is an open access, electronic journal, which is both internationally peer-reviewed and accessible to a global readership. The editors now seek submissions for a specially-themed volume on the topic “Literature and Culture in East Africa.” This guest issue on contemporary East African literature will be devoted to the political crises in Africa, and an in-depth analysis of narratives from differently challenged communities and individuals. Of particular concern are texts from the past decade and a half that have been composed at the time multiparty elections were taking place in Kenya and Tanzania, in the early 1990s, and during power-sharing negotiations for Sudan, Somalia, Rwanda, Burundi, and Kenya being held in hotels in East Africa. All these political events have led to an emerging ethos of democratic rule among citizens of Eastern Africa as an African region. Despite the changes that are clearly visible in the social mobility, migrations, access to jobs, training in ICT, the globalization which favours America and Western countries, yet to be seen are credible institutional reforms to accommodate intra-ethnic coexistence and the nature of the extant identities.

The call here is for papers that analyze political party affiliations based on regional strengths and ethnic loyalties. I welcome essays not only on identity crisis in East Africa, Ethnic Identity, but also on the growth of the various genres of literature in the region. Essays that will enhance theoretical pathways and debates which political and cultural identity crises have engendered. In addition to articles, I invite book reviews, narratives and gnomic forms of oral literature translated into English from East African languages, poems, short stories, and contemporary skits on negative ethnicity. The issue will highlight the new dynamics in East African culture and art in respect of language and other modes of communication and show how theatre practitioners, film makers, and media workers are experimenting with artistic forms in order to communicate with their audience.

Deadline for all submissions is September 30, 2008.

How to submit your contributions:

I guess we will call it another curses of the black race.

Here, every other first generation born or immigrant from Vietnam, China, Phillipines, India, Pakistan, Poland, Russia, name it all, and not to mention the Jews will embrace their own, network and inter marry one another. Supporting each other in a genuine and mutually trusting relationship. But for the blacks it is a nightmare. Their stories are horrific. This one has chased this one out, duped him/her, stolen from him/her, abandoned her with kids, reported him/her to state authorities, immigration or IRS and so on. That is their own ways of proving to be smart. Always on look out for loopholes to con and deceive someone.

That is why the black people are under populated, but highly over represented in using welfare services, and chronic and enduring dependence on the state funded services. All becuase of dysfunctional relationships and homes that are not condusive for stable family functioning.

They will just take advantage of the slightest vulnerability or their perception of weakness or dominance over one another, and hurt without thinking, at the end of the day the state will pick up the tabs.

While the white people here will always value trust and friendship the most, more than any titles or marriage certificate, even when they are old they are so caring, attentive and always there for their mates, even in instances of divorce, they will always support and be there for the other one.

So at the end of the day, the intelligent black girls who have a bright future, with nothing to loose and also with a great rewarding career, would rather remain single and at least keep their dignity and sanity intact. Why would they hang around any man who does not truly care or offer support?

When it comes to procreation, you might as well head for orphanages in sub sahara African and give one lucky little boy or girl a good chance in life, than waste your energy or money on an imbecile of a man.

Unfortunately, your article contains a lot of falsehoods and perpetuates too many stereotypes.

The fact of the matter is that in the west, the vast majority of African men still marry their African Queens, even though they (the men) have a much wider choice out there.

The fact of the matter is that African women in the west are in competition with women from all parts of the world – a situation they are unfamiliar with, coming from homebase. This ‘New Challenge’ to our women comes in the form of exciting new cultures, new visual stimuli, new sounds and new thinking.

The fact of the matter is that African women in the west – rightly or wrongly – do not look beyond their relatively small pool of men from their home countries, their own ethnic groups and some even their own little villages. Let the statisticians tell us how this, combined with the ‘New Challenge’, now skews the probability of finding the ‘right man’ away from the African woman.

True, many men may seek out women who have what our sistahs self- righteously define as ‘perverse’. But if the truth be told, African women are no different – they are just more discreet about what they should, can and will do. I always say that men know more about the deeds of women than they know about themselves. Thats not hard to figure out. African women are not prudes and are not as ‘uncreative’ as they would like the world to believe. They’re just more pragmatic with the time and the place.

Finally, the fact of the matter is that non-African men do find African women attractive – for many reasons. But what is the point if our women refuse to give them a second look?

Caribbean brothers are dating and marrying African sistahs in increasing numbers nowadays. Likewise white Europeans. Many of the qualities you mention are responsible. But lets just say that black women in general, and African women in particular, have been very slow to recognise that WANABIDII now has visitors from all over the world, of all races.

You’ve got to change with the times Sistahs.

Good luck!

Re: Several Issues We Wish to Discuss! Plus, You Are Our Only Hope…

July 24, 2009

Just this once, please allow me to put aside trying to be proper and worrying about correct tenses and punctuations. I want to talk to you in a language we can both understand without punctuations and grammar/ spell check getting in the way and slowing me down. My African sisters and I came together and decided it is time to get some things off our chests! Most of the naturally light skinned ones said they did not care and did not want to get involved because they had no problem. But, we know they are lying, for most of them are also still single too.

The younger sister of Mansa’s friend got married last weekend in Ghana and she is only 25 years-old. This got Mansa feeling nervous because a lot of us, similarly attractive, well educated sisters in the Diaspora have not yet been as lucky and we are pushing 35! Now we won’t admit this, but we are all so uneasy. We think if we don’t come to our senses and ask some serious questions, we will all die old and alone with our big degrees, luxury cars, and flashy homes! So, we wanted to come to you, our men in the Diaspora, and find out what is going on.

We want to know why many of you have abandoned us for other women, and why you watch us slowly fade into oblivion. One day, we will all have vanished leaving behind no trace of our existence. We are slowly becoming an endangered species, and we want to know why.

White men don’t want us because we do not meet the standard “beauty” definition. Black men run away from us because they say we are too educated and opinionated and unsubmissive. European men would rather date and marry one of their own. Don’t even get me started on Asian men; they won’t even look us in the eye because they have no respect for us. They think all we’re about is to come into their hair supply stores every week to get a different brand and length of weave and fading creams. But what are we to do? We can’t please everyone. We can’t be ourselves; and when we try to be someone else too we are labeled insecure?!

Amma run into this sister of ours from Kenya the other day and she looked weird. Her face was as light as butter cream but her neck said her face used to be a darker color. All this so one of her own would find her attractive.

Then there’s this our Nigerian sister who tries too hard to look … well, even we are confused about what she is trying to do with her hair. Today it’s long and wavy. Tomorrow, different story. Cecilia said she almost didn’t even recognize her.

Don’t even get me started on my Ghanaian sisters for I know them too well and I don’t want to be the one to snitch and embarrass anyone. Let’s just keep this between you and me (whisper). “Her eyes are really dark brown and not hazel like you think. And when she and I talk, she does not sound so proper and prim. Her accent is as heavy as yours. She’s just faking it to impress you.”

My Ivorian sister confided in me the other day that you wanted to put your sacred member where things should only come out of. When she protested, you threw her aside and said you were going to Michelle’s house because Michelle doesn’t mind where you put, what you yourself apparently have named, “torture rod.” Of course Michelle will let you do whatever with … em … what’s his name … “torture rod?” because she has no respect for herself, or her body. To her, it is a playground for any man who wants to play hide and go seek! You used to respect us, what happened?

When we were all back in our various African countries, you told us you would die for us! You jumped our father’s high walls decorated with sharp-edged broken bottles and barb wire, and even the hedged fences, to profess your undying love. You would not stop calling even after daddy gyata (lion) yelled at you and threatened to shoot you in places we need not mention if you ever called “his” phone again.

Some of you bought us fake plastic flowers which we gladly accepted because we did not know we could have the real thing. I remember the teddy bear Kwame gave me for Valentine’s Day. I named him Kwame Snuggly because he looked just like Kwame and was so snuggly, and I know he had to really scrape and save to buy it for me. Even though he is now one-eyed, I still love and cherish him and snuggle him every night in memory of what we once had, and the sacrifices you were willing to make to ensure I was happy. Of course, then all you knew was that I was beautiful and worthy. I was your African queen. Now you are asking me “why have dark chocolate when there are all these different flavors?” What a cruel, cruel world.

We want to be ourselves and still be accepted! If you won’t accept us for bettering ourselves, who else will? Obviously no one! And many of us are suffering in silence because when we talk you allow your non- African wives to jump on us and call us names.

See, mummy told us if we were good girls and learned how to cook and clean, that we would find good African men to marry us. This is why even when some of us were hitting the books hard and burning the midnight oil to compete with you guys in secondary school and the university, we still found time to enter the smoldering kitchen to learn how to chop onions, cut our fingers, have our fingers burned by flaming charcoal, and even learn how to cook your favorite yam and egusi stew. And let’s face it, we did have to work twice harder than you because after a long day in school we still had to go home and cook while you all got to release your stress on the football field and/or study whenever you wanted.

Funmi says her mother used to tell her that knowing too much book will not get her a good man to marry and boy was she right!

When we were up at 4:30 am sweeping the large compound, you all were snoring away. So what, that we had two house girls at home? Mummy was not having her girls not know how to clean their husband’s compound and bring shame to her name. She taught us well and we appreciate it even if not for your benefit, but for our own benefit.

Personally, I hate egusi stew but I figured what if my husband likes it and I don’t know how to cook it, then what? So I learned how to cook it anyway. All for you ooh, all for you! Now I hear that you are choosing other women who can’t even cook over us because of love. What’s love got to do with it? This no be love matter oh, this be the “principle of the matter” matter!

Leave love to the others! We want love too. They already have many many choices of men who will snatch them as soon as you drop them, but like I stated earlier, you are all we have because other men don’t find us attractive! They don’t want us! Even with the hazel eyes, long weaves and light faces, other men know real blond when they see one. They can easily separate the fake ones from the real ones from across a room.

Even as we learned how to make egusi stew and yam, we also learned how to be educated, classy ladies. Many of us have single-handedly worked two jobs to put ourselves through the university so that we can have smart conversations with you and not embarrass you in front of company. We can talk just as good as the other women and we know that champagne goes in the glasses with the long …

Here we are on the ninth day since the attacks began on our site. The latest report is that the attacks are still sustained. Whilst a couple of days ago they were happening at a rate of 25 per minute, they have now subsided to 15 per minute.

What we have not been able to ascertain is, who is attacking us? Perhaps you the customer knows, perhaps you have heard one bragging about it. Or perhaps you have a good hunch. Please share with us who you think is doing it.
