KENYA: NOMINATED MCA HECKLED AND BOOED AT A FUNERAL FOR CRITICIZING DR.KIDERO

Reports Le Odera Omolo.

FIGHTING broke out at a high profile and well attended funeral at Kendu-Bay town last Friday. The scuffles briefly sent the mourners scampered in all directions for their dear lives.

The chaotic situation erupted during the burial of a prominent business woman at Konyango Jieri village in Central Karachuonyo Location Homa-Bay County . It was during the tearful sending off of Mrs Pamela Atieno Ezra Odondi Opar ,the managing director of the Big Five chains hotels, which are located at Kendu Bay Town. Pamela was the wife of Ezra Odondi Opar also a businessman in the same Kendu Bay town, which is located only a kilometers from the funeral home.

The trouble started when the Homa-Bay County governor Cyprian Awiti had just arrived in the company of several members of the County executive committee {cabinet} and were being ushered in to sit at the VIP main dais.

A local politician who appeared to have taken one or two was politely requested by the master of the ceremony to push his seat a side at the dais to create space for more visitors [VIPs}. To be seated. The man called Wycliffe Odhiambo Ojijo flatly refused to follow the instruction prompting the ODM chairman in the constituency Tom Dolla to intervene. Instead the drunken man insulted Dola sparking off fist exchange of punches. Party youths and other mourners joined the fray and descended on the man with kicks and punches. He was beaten up savagely to the ground.

Earlier on the mourners had angrily booed and heckled the County nominated MCA Mrs Monica Amolo forcing her to cut the speech short and sit down. The had lunched scathing criticism of the Nairobi governor Dr.Evans Odhiambo Kidero by way of questioning the source of the huge sums of money he was dishing out at the various fund raising meetings in Luo-Nyanza. She said the LUOs were easily and readily accepting money without knowing its source and were therefore being bought cheaply.

Amolo who is an ODM official at the County branch said she had gone to the funeral place to represent her boss Senator Gerald Otieno Kajwang,’ who is the county branch chairman of the ODM, and heckled the county nominated MCA, Mrs Monica Amolo, forcing her to cut down her speech.

These remarks appeared not to have been taken lightly by the mourners who appears to be supporting Dr Kidero

Also in attendance were two prominent members of the Luo Council of Elders led by chairman Ker Meschack Riaga Ogalo and elder Nyandiko Ongadi. Don Opar an unsuccessful parliamentary aspirant, arachuono, in the March 4, 2013 election, Achills Gogo who contested the position of Deputy governor and Charles Ong’ondo Were another unsuccessful parliamentary aspirant for Kasipul seat in 2013.

Karachuonyo MP Eng James Rege appeared briefly at the funeral but left immediately after reporting that he was feeling unwell and therefore was being rushed to Nairobi to get quick medical treatment .

Also booed and asked to sit down was the perennial election loser in Karachuonyo Adipo Okuome who was given a chance to address the mourners, but instead said that he had won the March 2013 election but was robbed of his election victory. The crowd shouted back telling Okuome that he had lost the election because he was fairly defeated at the polls. This forced him to drop the microphone and sit down.

It was later established that homa-Bay Senator Otieno Kajwang’ was to attend the the burial of Mrs Odondi, but after surveying the area and discovered that the mood of the people and the area was that very hostile ground. He skipped it and instead sent Mra Amolo. Sen Kajwang; of late is having lean time and seemed to have lost touch with the peole in Homa-bay County following his recent recklessness in attacking the Nairobi governor Dr Kidero who has become the darling of the people in most parts of Luo-Nyanza.

KENYA: LUO MPS BITTER WITH AREA POLICE FOR MISSING RUTO’S HANDOUT

By Our Reporter

A section of luo Members of Parliament are up in arms against Kisumu County police and the Provincial Administration for having “hidden and failed” to invite them to Deputy President William Ruto’s function last week in Kisumu and missing the generous handout from the DP.

Ruto who was being hosted by the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Kisumu towards the the construction of their Western Kenya Headquarters caught many by surprise whewn he landed directly at the venue with a chopper after seeing off President Uhuru Kenyatta at Kisumu’s International who flew to Rwanda after they had flown in from Nairobi then headed to Funyula.

Surprisingly none of the luo Members of Parliament nor any Senator attended the function save only for Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Otieno Awiti and the host Jack Ranguma.

The MPs who were in various functions within and out of their constituencies were said to be making ranting calls to their men on the ground demanding to know if they could catch up with Ruto.

However Ruto took only thirty minutes to raise over kshs 20 million and left for Nairobi as most of the MPs were on their way to his function not to contribute towards the harambee but to see him with a view of “milking him”.

“My boss was disappointed as we were making our way from Kericho to Kisumu only for us to reach Kaitui and see the DP chopper heading to Nairobi, he was on his private errands and had hoped to get some little money from the DP” lamented one aide of luo MP.

Ruto had earlier been accompanied by his youthful MPs who gave generously during the function.

One MP called a senior police officer within the County and threatened him with a transfer if that is how they will be handling them in regard to both the Presidential and the DP tour.

“How can they hide such a visit from me yet I am an MP within this area, either they did it intentionally or they had firm instructions to keep us in the dark “said another MP.

Another one is said to have called a Provincial Administrator within the county crying to him why he was never told of such a visit.

“Bwana Governor, you know how generous that man usually is, surely what wrong did I do to you to hide such a visit from me, imagine I have been trying to see him for the last four months in his Nairobi office in vain over money’ said another.

But a section of the area Police and the provincial administration have told off the MPs saying there mandate doesn’t extend to telling the legislatures who is to visit the county.

“They are with them in Nairobi, they can be going to to the said offices and look for the itineraries of anyone senior in the government who is to visit their constituencies, ours is coordination and security provision” said a senior police officer within the county who never wanted his identity revealed.

Later most of the MPs were seen physically going to leading hotels within Kisumu town with a view of “being lucky” to see any senior government officer who could have spent a night in Kisumu

Friends,

Some of you will be aware that H.E. the President recently addressed Kenyan Diaspora in Kampala. Below, we are delighted to share with you summary of his remarks in Kampala from the Presidential Press Unit (PSCU). We appreciate H.E.’s apparent prioritization of Diaspora.

We were much delighted to have been represented as Diaspora, especially KDA, by the very able Chair of AKIU (Association of Kenyans in Uganda), Nd Isaiah Kojwang’, who by virtue of his office, also dubs in as Co-Convenor of KDA. Thanks, Nd Koji for highlighting most of the key issues so dear to the Diaspora.

Attached is copy of the full remarks by Nd Isaiah, shared with permission.

Kenyan Diaspora is the single largest asset outside the country, says the President
By Kobia Mwirichia

Kampala February 19, 2014 (PSCU) – The Government is developing instruments of engagement to bolster relationship with the Kenyan Diaspora to enable them invest in key projects in the country, President Uhuru Kenyatta has assured.

President Kenyatta said Kenyan Diaspora is considered the single biggest asset outside the country for the developmental roles they played through remittances.

The President spoke Wednesday night at a Kampala hotel when he met Kenyans living and working in Uganda. He said Kenyan Diaspora was the central pillar in the country’s foreign policy.

“You are the single largest contributor to the country’s development agenda through remittances and the face of Kenya in enhancing relations with the host countries. We as Government will continue to engage with you,” the President told Kenyan Diaspora.

The President, who is in Kampala for the Northern Corridor Integration projects 4th Tripartite Summit, said the instruments of engagement being put in place will enable the Diaspora to participate in Key projects in roads and the energy sectors.

On the issue of Kenyans living abroad participating in the electoral process, the President affirmed that Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is putting in place mechanisms to register all Kenyans including those in the Diaspora to enable them participate in the 2017 general elections.

President Kenyatta said registration of voters will be a continuous exercise to ensure that all Kenyans on attainment of 18 years are registered as voters to enable them exercise their democratic rights to elect leaders of their choice.

He said the Government has made great strides in the last nine months in the removal of non-tariff barriers and other obstacles that increased cost of doing business in the country.

“We prioritised removal of delays in cargo clearance at the port of Mombasa and the challenges of transporting it along the northern corridor as part of our contribution to promoting regional trade,” President Kenyatta said.

The President allayed fears that the coming together of Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and South Sudan in infrastructure development would hurt the East Africa integration.

He said all the five East African Community member States are committed to integration and are focused in the objective of uniting the region for prosperity.

“We want a one united East Africa as unity is strength. Through integration, EA will be a giant among countries of the world,” the President added.

The President said the four countries came together to address their common unique needs and their unity is therefore in any way meant to isolate Tanzania and Burundi or undermine the EAC integration process.

Fielding questions from the Kenyans, President Kenyatta assured IDPs in Uganda that the Government will facilitate them to return home and restart their lives.

He said, “The Ministry of devolution is working with the National Treasury to set aside funds in the next financial year to incorporate IDPS in Uganda in the resettlement programme”.

He thanked the government of Uganda for hosting Kenyans displaced by the 2007 post-election violence for the last six years.

The chairman of the Association of Kenyans Living in Uganda Mr. Isaac Kojwang thanked the President for pushing forward the EAC agenda and fast-tracking the integration agenda.

Dear Daktari,

Attached is the speech I made when Kenyans in Uganda hosted President Uhuru Kenyatta at the Kampala Serena Conference Centre.

I’m glad to say that The President and The Cabinet Secretary, Foreign affairs and International Trade took issues raised in the speech seriously and responded to most of them directly, and asking his (President’s) minders to make sure different issues belonging to various Ministries back home be raised with the relevant PSs and CSs. You have probably heard him already raising the IEBC and EAC issues which we presented, among several others. In Kampala, it became almost like a panel discussion with H.E responding to nearly every question raised and allowing his entourage to make comments where relevant.

We’ll talk soon.

KENYA: CRITICISM AND ATTACK ON GOVERNOR KIDERO BY LUO LEADERS IS UNCALLED FOR

Writes Leo Odera Omolo In Kisumu CITY

The bunch of Luo MPS and leaders attended the so-called consultative meeting in Bondo last week. They denounced the Nairobi governor Dr. Evans Otieno Kidero for his effort to assist the poverty ridled community by conducting a series of high profile Harambee fundraising towards socio-economic projects in Nyanza was misplaced.

These gentlemen of parliament should know that the index of poverty in Luo-Nyanza is the highest in this country. Therefore, the community would definitely welcome anybody who is readily coming to their assistance with both arms. The region therefore needs a foresighted person like Dr Kidero who is mindful of the less fortune members of the society.

Some of the leaders who spoke the loudest should perhaps spent their valuable hero worshiping individuals instead of making any meaningful contributions to wards development activities in the region. One of the examples is the Homa-Bay Senator, Gerald Otieno Kajwang’ who spearheaded anti-Kidero debate, was first elected to represent the larger Mbita Constituency in Parliament before it was splintered into two parts with the creation of Suba South or Gwassi constituency some years ago. Kajwang’ later jumped the ship and relocated his politics to HOMA-bay County and contested the Senate seat, but left nil record of development in Mbita. However, the Senator cannot account for any single economic or infrastructure project he had initiated and completed in Mbita after being in Parliament for close to 17 years.

The outspoken Senator can only be remembered with the song lyrics of Bado Kuna Mapambsno as his only legacy in Mbita. He was eventually forced out of Mbita which he left in a huff after sensing defeat early this year and relocated his politics to HomaA-Bay town for the purpose of hoodwinking the voters in the larger County.

Kajwang’ entered into Parliament almost at the same time with the late Joshua orwa Ojode, the former Ndhiwa MP who was elected in 1974. Ojode, however, left behind a remarkable record of development in Ndhiwa. The MP who converged at Bondo and vilified Kidero are some of those leaders still happy when presiding over the Poverty ridden people, while some of them are swimming in ill-gotten wealth. They should know that hero worshipping politics is now outmoded and has no place in modern society,

Instead of criticizing Dr Kidero, the MPS should strive to sensitizing their people to compete with their neighbors in wealth creation. The Luos have been wallowing in abject poverty ever since this country attained its political independence in 1963, while other neighboring communities moves much faster and turned their areas.

Good example is the comparison of Kisii town and Kisumu CITY. While Kisumu is lagging behind in development, activities in Kisii town are very competitive while Kisumu is stinking in dirty garbages and broken sewerage lines which goes for weeks unrepaired.

Let these MPS come up with tangible ideas on how the Luo-Nyabza could move much faster and catch up with other regions, instead of polarizing the region with deceitful politics, which are full of empty slogans.

USA: New York Times stunner

From: Anna Galland, MoveOn.org Civic Action

Republicans are trying to steal control of the U.S. Senate by making it harder to vote.

Pitch in to help defend the right to vote and stop Republicans from stealing the 2014 election.
http://www.moveon.org/r?r=292693&id=73265-21095459-vLAjbox&t=2

Dear MoveOn member,

This is stunning: The New York Times’ data wizard Nate Silver—who predicted the 2012 election results state-by-state with uncanny accuracy—is now projecting that, “Republicans [are] close to even-money to win control of the [Senate] after next year’s elections.”1

It’s the worst-case scenario: Republicans win a majority in the Senate, and we can kiss the rest of President Obama’s agenda goodbye.

To make things worse, they have a plan to steal the 2014 election starting right now by making it harder for seniors, students, poor people, and African-Americans to vote.

Back in May, the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act. Since then, Republicans in key states have been racing to purge voter rolls, eliminate early voting, and require new photo IDs to vote—anything they can do to make it harder to vote.

And in an election as close as this one will be, even 1-2 percentage points could turn the tide.

You think the fights over the budget, Obamacare, and immigration are bad now? Imagine Mitch McConnell in control of the U.S. Senate. Try getting any pro-choice judge confirmed for the Supreme Court against a GOP majority. Or stopping cuts to Social Security. Forget it.

The 2014 election is hugely important—and we can’t let Republicans steal it now. So if you think you’ll want to get involved sometime next year, I ask you: Please get engaged right now.

We’re raising $250,000 this week to launch a ‘Let Us Vote’ Campaign to fight back right now—while it can make the greatest difference. Will you help?

Yes, I’ll contribute $5 so we can fight back.
https://civ.moveon.org/donatec4/voter_suppression_2013.html?bg_id=hpc5&id=73265-21095459-vLAjbox&t=4

How blatant are the GOP’s efforts? North Carolina just passed what’s widely being called the most extreme voter suppression law in the country. It requires Voter ID, reduces early voting, and ends same-day registration.2

Why there? Sen. Kay Hagan of North Carolina is just one of four Democrats up for re-election next year in a state won by Mitt Romney. If Republicans can reduce turnout in North Carolina and defeat her, it’ll drastically improve their odds of taking the Senate.

To reverse the effects of this effort, we have a 3-pronged plan of attack:

1. We’ll launch state-by-state campaigns to roll back discriminatory voter suppression laws, rules and regulations when state legislatures are back in session.

2. We’ll prepare a traditional and online media blitz, highlighting both the actions of extreme politicians like North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory and the stories of heroic individual voters whose rights are being trampled.

3. We’ll organize an aggressive counter-intimidation campaign to mobilize the very same voters who are being disenfranchised. This tactic was proven to work last election, when showing voters what Republicans are really up to actually motivated unlikely voters to overcome barriers to get to the polls.4

We helped beat back the GOP voter suppression machine in 2012—and we can do it again—but all of us need to help. And we can’t afford to wait until next year. Are you in to support our “Let Us Vote” campaign?

Yes, I’ll contribute $5.https://civ.moveon.org/donatec4/voter_suppression_2013.html?bg_id=hpc5&id=73265-21095459-vLAjbox&t=5

Kenya & USA: Fundraising for AIC Obugi Church – Kusa Nyakach

From: Doc Odotte

Request for Funding Church Construction

I was at a highest of highs one Sunday this past summer while visiting my rural village of Kusa, as I sat on the lawn under a Mango tree with the church congregation, keenly listening to the teaching and preaching about God’s grace. The congregation was full of interest, listening to the word of the God and singing the hymns.

It made me feel so proud of what we had achieved spiritually amongst the community and for that moment appreciated that the word of God could be just as effective in an open lawn under a Mango tree just as in a structured church building.

It did not take long for the rain to come down heavily, the congregation were soaked in rain and had no shelter to take cover, their bibles all wet and destroyed. I then thought about my grandmother’s dream of constructing a church for the surrounding community.

Let me share some story about those dreams of my Grandmother Alando. As long as i remember Kusa people walked 4-5 miles to attend church either in Mbugra or Thurdibuoro since there was none in the area. My grandmother and many others from my community made sure they started their journey to Mbugra church as early as 6am in order to get there on time. Alando Nyar Ongete my grandmother got the community together and discussed the need for a local church in Obugi Nam Kusa. She then donated land to be used to construct the church, unfortunately she passed on in 2005 before this was realized. When i visited my village of Kusa this past summer, my community still did not have a church constructed – I made a promise that i would be back in Kenya in December to break grounds for Obugi AIC church. I’m going back home to build a church can I count on you to help me do this?

For this reason, I am writing to request your help in fundraising for this noble cause. The construction budget has been estimated to be $55,000. Alando’s Kitchen has pledged $2,000.

Fundraiser will be held on December 15th 2012 at Alando’s Kitchen Restaurant, starting at 8:00 PM EST. Guest of Honor will be Doc Odotte. Master of Ceremony will be Enos Odera.

Thank you in advance for your support.

USA: Storm Sandy

From: Daniel Mintz, MoveOn.org Civic Action

Dear MoveOn member,

Hurricane Sandy landed a week and a half ago. My family in New York and New Jersey was lucky. Relatives had their houses flooded, and others are still without power or heat. It’s bad, and it’s going to take time to rebuild. But everybody’s ok.

Unfortunately, for hundreds of thousands of others, things are not ok. Far from it.

People still don’t have power or water, basements are still flooded, gas shortages have made it hard to run generators, and temperatures are getting down into the 30s. MoveOn members who have volunteered have told us about finding families wet and shivering in the cold, and meeting people who’ve stopped eating because they don’t have anywhere to relieve themselves.

Many of the worst-off places—Staten Island, the Jersey Shore, Long Island, and New York City neighborhoods like the Rockaways and Red Hook—are home to hundreds of thousands of working class and poor families. Families that don’t have the resources to get a hotel room, or take weeks off from work, or wait in gas lines for 7 hours.

It’s gotten so bad that Doctors Without Borders has set up their first-ever disaster relief effort in the U.S.1 MoveOn members across the tri-state area have been pitching in. But now we’re asking MoveOn members across the country to help.

Community organizations are doing some of the best relief work—providing hot meals, distributing supplies, helping residents dig out—and they could desperately use our help. We’ve identified a few making a huge impact. Can you chip in to help them? MoveOn.org Civic Action will cover the credit card fees so every dollar of your donation goes to these organizations helping people in dire need.

Yes, I can donate to help provide vital relief.

FUND RAISING ANNOUNCEMENT FOR MY LATE SISTER TURFENA AWUOR OWITI.

From: Doc Odotte

Dear Sir/Madam

It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my sister Turfena Awuor Owiti who passed away on Wednesday August 29th, 2012 after a short illness at War Memorial Hospital in Nakuru. She was 49 years old.

It extremely heartbreaking because just three weeks ago I was in Kenya and she, her son and her two grand kids came to see me. She was so full of life that no one could even imagine that she would be gone by now. We had the best time together, we laughed, danced, and remembered the good old times when we were growing up. May be she came to say good bye to us. That’s God’s plan and no one can do anything about it, we just ask for your prayers.

Turfena is survived by a son George Otieno and two grand kids Okoth and Koffi. My sister loved me so much that she had one of her grand child named after me. Okoth is named after me. Her husband passed away ten years ago and she was left alone to fend for her son and two grand kids, as her son has no meaningful employment and depended on her for most of his family needs.

I need your help to raise funds to help the family defray some of the hospital expenses, funeral and transportation costs to her final resting place. The body is currently lying at the War Memorial Hospital mortuary in Nakuru.

The harambee will be on Saturday September 8th, 2012 in my house located at 43 Springbrook Rd, Nanuet, New York 10954 from 6pm onward. Kindly come and help me raise the funds to give my sister a decent burial.

Gethsemane Garden Christian Centre (the new Starehe of Kenya) Harambee Is August 18, 2012

Members of the Lowland Community, the organizing committee and Gethsemane Garden Christian Center students, staff and family are inviting you to a fundraiser in aid of the center on Saturday, August 18th, 2012 in New Jersey, USA starting at 5p.m. to 12 a.m. @ the American Legion Post 401, 148 Major Road, Monmouth Junction NJ 08852.

Gethsemane Garden Academy and Gethsemane Garden High School for orphans are the new Starehe of Kenya located on Mfangano Island in Suba District.

The center, which was started in 2003 for orphans from Kindergarten to third grade, has expanded to 12th grade or Form 4. It has been largely financially supported by well wishers from U.S. who have visited the school from time to time.

The center wants you to be part of its success as it makes history.

The school started from a humble beginning, a loving vision of supporting a few children who lost both parents to the dreaded HIV by a God chosen couple Mr. Naphtaly Mattah and his wife Nereah Mattah. Like the children of Israelite the number multiplied very fast and God’s miracle worked its way to now 535 students. Gethsemane now prides itself with strong candidates distributed in academic giants such as Alliance Boys and Girls, Starehe, Mangu, Moi Girls Eldoret, Maranda to mention a few. USA: Republican political suicide

From: Steven Biel, MoveOn.org Civic Action

Hi—I wanted to make sure
you saw this email we sent the other day. This is an incredible opportunity,
and every dollar counts!

Young voters could decide the 2012 election, and
Republicans are slapping them in the face by trying to double the interest
rates on student loans this July. We’ve got a plan to make sure every
college student in America knows what’s happening and who’s to blame. Can
you donate $5?

Dear MoveOn member,

In 2008, young people voted
in record numbers and went for President Obama over John McCain by
more than 2-to-1.1 This year, every election expert
agrees that if that happens again, Obama will win easily
—and the Democrats
will probably win back the Congress.

And now Republicans have
handed us a golden opportunity to fire up young people to vote in 2012.

You see, because of
Republican obstruction in Congress, interest rates on college loans are set
to double this July—pouring even more debt on a generation
already drowning in student loans. President Obama is pushing Congress to stop
it, but as usual Republicans have dug in their heels.2

To make sure young
people know what’s happening, we’re launching one of the largest online ad
campaigns in MoveOn history
—putting ads on the Facebook page of every college student in America to warn them about this Armageddon of student debt.

We’ve already tested
several versions of these ads, and we know they’re effective at getting
students to take action. But we’ll have to scrap the plan unless we can
raise $200,000 from MoveOn members.
Can you chip in $5?

Yes, I can contribute $5 to help make sure young people vote in
2012.

MoveOn has already heard
from hundreds of thousands of young people freaking out about this—and we’re
already working to make sure they call Congress, register to vote, and keep
taking action on campus.

But really, we need
to reach the millions of young people who aren’t hearing about this,
and hands down the best way to reach
them is on Facebook.

Facebook ads are awesome
because unlike TV, radio, or newspaper ads, people can click on them and sign
up to take action. And of course, Facebook is where young voters spend so
much of their time.

Nothing strikes fear
into the hearts of Republican strategists like the idea of another wave of
young voter turnout like in 2008
, and this Republican war on students gives us a chance to
make it happen, if we can act fast.

Click here to contribute $5 to help make sure young people vote
in 2012.

Student debt has become
an absolutely explosive issue among young people. Since
1999, student loan debt has increased by more than 500%. You may not
realize it if you don’t have kids or if you went to college 10 or 20 years ago,
but it now costs on average more than $21,000 a year to go to a public school
with in-state tuition. The best private schools are almost triple that much.3

In fact, we’ve seen two
of the largest petitions in MoveOn history in recent months calling on Congress
to provide relief for those drowning in student debt. This is a sleeping
giant of an issue, and in the coming weeks it can really blow up.

The Republicans’ doubling
of interest rates is just the latest attack on students. For years they’ve been
slashing funding for higher education, leading directly to skyrocketing tuition
at public colleges and universities. Just last year, they cut $8 billion out of
the Pell Grant program for low-income students and reduced the income threshold
for eligibility for a full Pell Grant.4

This is the ultimate
teachable moment for young voters
, showing them who’s on their side and why it’s so important
to vote. With your help, we can make this one of the key turning points of the
2012 election.

Can you contribute $5 to help make sure young people vote in
2012?

Thanks for all you do.

Kenya: Invitation of Kenyatta and Ruto to officiate in Harambee at Jaramogi home is roundly condemned by Luo politician and civic societies and clergymen

Writes Leo Odea Omolo In Kisumu City

The much highlighted big catch of support in Luo-Nyanza by the G7 allies having netted one of Raila Odinga’s step brother who has promised to host the group’s two presidential aspirants for fund raising in the rural Kang’o Kajaramogi home in Nyamira Sakwa Central, Bondo district could turn out to be the work of conmen and fraudster out to fleece the two of their campaign resources.

George Ayugi “Mbuta” who had brokered the relations used to be an ODM operative with no significant following inside Luo Nyanza, but known as one of the many political hirelings.and sycophants relying an leaning heavily on MPs for survivals.

His relations with the Eldoret North MP William Samoei Arap Ruto came while the latter was the Minister for Agriculture and had appointed him to sit in the Sugar Arbitration Tribunal, though he is a semi-illiterate person.

The relationship between the two is nothing but an act of belly-begging. Ayugi who hails from Ugenya constituency cannot even host Kenyatta and Ruto in his own home turf, leave alone inviting them to the home of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.

Councilor Omondi Odinga, the step-brother of the Prime Minister Raila Odinga is heavily indebted civic leader and not a very forthright person to be relied upon.

So far a number of Luo personalities whose names appeared in the invitation cards as the chief guest and deputy chief guest respectively have come out strongly and denounced the planned fund raising meeting.

One of them is the Mumias Sugar Company Chief Executive Dr. Evans Kidero who has strongly denied having any link with the planned Harambee meeting. Kidero who is currently in the Unite States where he had gone on official duties disassociated himself from the planned fund drive.

“I do not even know the man {Coun Omondi} in person,”Dr Kidero retorted angrily, adding that he is a staunch supporter of the Prime Minister Raila Odinga and cannot conduct any fund drive function at his parent home without his blessing.

Another personality whose name is also appearing in the invitation card Poycarp Ocholla Kamili a prominent businessman in Mombasa and Muhoroni went into the air via local vernacular FM Radio Station denying having any knowledge about the planned Harambee fund rising for Omondi Odinga. He said he had at no time ever discussed the issue with the Councilor and wonder why his name has been printed in the card without his knowledge.

He threatened to institute legal action against the Milimani Councilor.

The planned Harambee meeting in question is scheduled for April 6,and the Councilor has invited Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta and William Samoei Ruto as some of the principal guests.

Meanwhile Kisumu City was over the weekend a wash with rumor that the late Jaramogi has sent a dream to his youngest son Coun Omondi Odinga telling who will be the next President of the Republic of Kenya.

Early last year, Coun. Omondi Odinga was reported o have lured one of the candidate aspiring for the Kissumu County Senate seat into the Milimani home of the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, the place where his mother is living for a ma blessing ceremony party. The aspirant, is said to have spent a fortune in lavishly entertaining the invited guests with food and alcohol beverages believing that the blessing ceremony had Raila and the entire family blessing

The whole exercise turned to be an air balloon, and the said aspirant was conned colossal amount of money. There were other reports alleging that the younger Oinga had received colossal of money from some women working at the main Kisumu Jubilee Market on the promise to secure jobs for the in the Municipality. The woman have since threatened to stage street demo ageist the Councilor and on one occasion cornered him in a building forcing him to flee through the back door as they women were baying for his blood.

In another incident, it is being alleged that Coun Omondi Odinga had purchased a motor vehicle from a group of local dealers and issued them with a bank cheque that was later not honored by the bank, and the dealer are said to be still pursuing him over the matter.

. There are also numerous reported cases of extortion and irregular dealing with the City business men, an the Asian traders are the most victims.

However, one clergy man who preferred to remain anonymous said that Omondin Odinga needs prayers because rebuking him will not help him in anyway.

On political pundits in Kisumu said that for many years those close to Raila Odinga in Luo-Nyanza have been branding those with diverse opinion as traitors and other derogatory names, but this time around the real and true traitor has emerged within the Odinga’s household..

“We are closely watching how the Prime Minister is going to handle this volatile issue where his own step brother has disassociated from his political leadership and has invited his rivals and political enemies to the Jaramogi homestead” remarked one civic leader in Kisumu.

Omondo Odinga has called for Harambee to fund raiser the money for his election campaign. He is eyeing the Bondo seat which he currently represented by his elder brother Dr. Oburu Oginga, who is an Assistant Finance Minister. The late Jaramogi had represented the seat ever since it inception in 1963.Thereae unconfirmed report that the Assistant Minister is now eyeing for the Siaya Senate seat.

Other sources from those versed with the Odinga family affairs says the disagreement has come about following the alleged plan to turn the late Jaramogi’s Milimani House, which the two elder brothers Raila and Oburu had planned to turn into a public institution. There could be more meet the eyes than the true picture of the situation on the ground.

Other leading personalities in Nyanza have said that the tour and possible pubic address by Kenyatta and Ruto in the region is okay and would be most welcome. However, judging from the malice and damages it has caused to the Prime Minister in his backyard, the tour would not be feasible. The two will have to wait and re-arrange for their tour of Nyanza separately from that of Omondi Odinga’s invitation which could turn out to be not very peaceful because the residents of the region view such invitation to be full of malice and political intrigues.

So far Omondi Odinga’s action has been roundly condemned by all level minded Luos politicians who view it as a betrayal b y a lone ranger and a man full of mischiefs.

Kenya: Ojode tells the Luo to discard the politics of hero worshipping and patronage and elect only leaders who are focused to eradicate poverty

Reports Leo Odera Omolo In MigoriTown.

POLITICS of hero worshipping and patronage at the elections time are some of the major obstacles retarding development and progress inside Luo-Nyanza.

This was sated at the weekend by the abrasive Ndhiwa MP Joshua Orwa Ojode who pointed out that the political patronage is denying the community the right to elect mature and credible leaders to the various elective positions.

He was speaking during a funds drive at Kadika in Wasweta East, Migori district where he helped raise over Kshs 2 million. The money would go towards the construction of Kadika SDA church.

Ojode who is also an Assistant Minister for the Internal Security echoed the feeling being nursed by many people that the region will continue to be lagging behind in competitive development unless the leaders rose above “political party worship”.

The MP said only people who were able to change the livelihood of the electorates should be elected to the position of MPs, Senate and local authority representatives in the next year’s polls.

He went on,” Many unfit people had been elected to the various offices in the past for merely being in the ‘correct party’ though most of the later turn to be the biggest liability than asset to the party and the electorate.”

The weekend utterances by the independent minded has since provoked sharp reaction from various quarters with most people agreeing with his sentiments terming them positive views, while ODM supporters and local leader who have been mooting for “Uniform Voting” in the region have described them as “Divisive”

The hard working Ndhiwa MP of late has been viewed as silent critic of the Luo political kingpin, Raila Amolo Odinga. This is so because for close to four years now Ojode has been conspicuously absent from the many functions presided over by the ODM leader.

The Assistant Minister recently told this writer during an exclusive interview that he is against Raila Odinga.” I am not war with ‘Agwambo’ except some idle talkers and busy bodies feel I am a threat to be I the local Luo succession politics.”

“These people view me as a potential successor to Raila in Nyanza politics due to my attractive of development in my home turf of Ndhiwa and also my contributions in the region’s development activities plus my young age.

The Assistant Minister scathingly criticized the management f the Awendo-based Sony Sugar Company”for seeking the service of the police to protect itself from competition with other millers over cane supplied.”This particular fir has been in business for close to 30 year and should now embrace in the industry.

“Sony Sugar should stop blaming others and complaining that the operation the new rival, the Sukari Industries limited, which is located in Ndhiwa district for cane ‘poaching’ by the new factory. Moreover another sugar mills has already commence its production I the neighboring Trans – Mara district- also a short distant from Awendo-based millers bringing the number of sugar mills in the region to three.

The Assistant Minister said he will not accept SONYSUGAR to misuse officers from his Ministry to fight unnecessary wars and this trend must stop.

“Under the liberalized sugar industry, farmers were now free to take their cane to a better paying factory and should never be held hostage in this age of liberalized market.”he added,

Ojode reaffirmed his support for the new factory saying that “because of this competition the sugar can farmers in the region can now reap the full benefits of their sweat.”

The Ndhiwa based Sukari Industries Limited a private owned enterprise is paying out Kshs 5,097/- per ton of delivered sugar, whereas only Sugar based at Awendo is now paying Kshs 4,500 the prices which was increased only last week from the previous Kshs 3,5oo per ton. But it is deducting further some of money t for transport and harvesting expenses, whereas the Ndhiwa based does everything including transport and harvesting costs without levy anything o a farmer. The increase I the price set by Sukari Industries Limited is 46 per cent, and many farmers are happy with them and wanted t switch their allegiance to the new firm.
