RE: Video: Important announcement from Barack

Obama for America

Dear Readers,

Barack announced an important decision for our campaign today.

I want to add a little context to the video message you received earlier announcing that we will not participate in the public financing system for the general election.

Even though we stood to receive more than $80 million in taxpayer funding for our campaign, the system has been so gamed and exploited by our opponents that it is effectively broken.

John McCain, the Republican National Committee, and their allies in so-called 527 groups that raise and spend unlimited contributions are dedicated to manipulating this broken system to raise as much money as possible — and they’ve proven that they’re very good at it.

A top McCain adviser told MSNBC earlier this month, “now that we’re in the general election, the RNC money counts, the DNC money counts. So the truth is today, John McCain has more cash on hand and more money than Barack Obama does.”

In April alone, they raised nearly $45 million. That’s more than our campaign and the Democratic National Committee combined. And that doesn’t include the plans of 527 groups like the one called “Freedom’s Watch,” which has said it will spend as much as $250 million under Karl Rove’s direction to attack and defeat Barack Obama.

To compete, Barack has put his faith in ordinary people giving only what they can afford. That’s been the strategy of this campaign from the beginning, and more than 1,500,000 supporters like you have gotten us this far.

We have a historic opportunity to prove that a movement of ordinary people has the power to change the way political campaigns are funded. And we have a clear goal as we begin this new challenge: 50,000 people declaring their independence by making a donation before July 4th.

You can help take on John McCain and the RNC by making your first donation today.

A previous donor is standing by to match your gift and double your impact. You can even exchange a personal note with them about why you’ve chosen to support Barack.

Declare your independence from our broken system. Make a matching donation today:

https://donate.barackobama.com/match

Opting out of public matching funds was an extremely difficult decision, and frankly we are at a disadvantage when it comes to raising money. Unlike John McCain, this campaign has never accepted donations from Washington lobbyists or special interest PACs.

While McCain has built his fundraising strategy around high-dollar donors giving huge checks to the RNC, you are creating a new model for publicly financed campaigns.

Thank you for your support and for taking on the masters of a broken system,

David

Raila: Kenya to benefit from Open Skies pact with US

Story by KEVIN J KELLY in Washington, DC
Publication Date: 6/19/2008; Daily Nation;
http://www.nationmedia.com/dailynation/nmgcontententry.asp?category_id=1&newsid=125665
Prime Minister Raila Odinga said at a ceremony in Washington on Wednesday that a new US-Kenya Open Skies agreement will bring benefits for the country’s tourism, horticulture and business sectors.

Mr Odinga watched as the pact allowing direct flights between the two countries was formally signed by Kenya Transport Minister Chirau Ali Mwakwere and US Transportation Secretary Mary Peters.

The Open Skies initiative will allow cut flowers and other Kenya products to reach the United States “within 24 hours of leaving the farms,” he said.

Kenya Airways hopes to take advantage of the agreement by starting direct flights between Nairobi and New York, Washington and Atlanta, Mr Odinga added. He noted that the time-saving flights will enable more Kenyans to do business in the US.

The agreement will also boost US tourism to Kenya, the Prime Minister said. Americans will no longer have to transit through Europe in order to fly to destinations in Kenya once direct flights start.

Delta Airlines, a US carrier, has announced it will begin flying to Nairobi next year.

At the signing ceremony at US Department of Transportation headquarters, Ms Peters passed her condolences to Mr Odinga on behalf of the families of two Kenyan ministers, who died in a plane crash earlier this month. Both Mr Odinga and Ms Peters noted that flying remains one of the safest modes of transportation.

Kenyan Prime Minister Speaks Out on Zimbabwe
By Howard Lesser  Washington, DC 18 June 2008
Television Journalist Paul Ndiho – Download (MP3)

Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s critical remarks about Zimbabwe have reverberated through a speech he delivered Tuesday at Washington’s Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) during his first official visit to the United States. Describing the southern African country as an eyesore and an embarrassment to the African continent, Odinga called for President Robert Mugabe to resign if he fails to win Zimbabwe’s June 27 presidential run-off election. He criticized the silence of some African leaders, who he said have failed to speak out about election irregularities in Zimbabwe. The Kenyan prime minister also urged South African President Thabo Mbeki and other regional leaders of the Southern African Community (SADC) to get international monitors on the ground in time to curb election fraud in Zimbabwe’s presidential run-off. Journalist Paul Ndiho covered Mr. Odinga’s Washington speech for the Voice of America’s TV to Africa. He says that the prime minister came by his personal views on the Zimbabwe crisis from first-hand electoral experience in his own country.

“I don’t think he was speaking on behalf of the Kenyan government because we haven’t heard President Kibaki say something along these lines. I think he was speaking in his capacity as the prime minister of Kenya and in his capacity as Raila Odinga, who is also a Pan-Africanist, who wants to see change in Zimbabwe. He called himself a pessimistic African, who thinks that African leaders ought to do more to stop the silence and maybe speak out more about what’s going on in Zimbabwe,” said Ndiho.

Odinga, the presidential candidate for Kenya’s main opposition Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), became prime minister in April in a coalition government, sharing power with the disputed winner of last December 27 Kenyan presidential elections, incumbent President Mwai Kibaki. Ndiho notes that Raila Odinga is optimistic in describing how Kenya’s own power sharing government is emerging after three months of hard negotiations, determined to succeed in restoring stability and bringing economic recovery.

“He said they are very, very hopeful that this coalition government will work. But if it works, then it’s going to be a model for other African states in the future. He talked about how the coalition government has come together not only to look at what happened during the post-election violence, but he also talked about what the government is doing as far as resettling the IDP’s, the land issue in Nyanza province. He pretty much touched on every single thing the coalition government is trying to do to bring back Kenya to what it was before the election. And he also urged the US government and other partners to come back to Kenya, not to watch from the sidelines, but to help them rebuild a country that was once known as a beacon of hope for Africa,” he said.

Besides resettlement assistance, Ndiho cites economic assistance, support for health care, and tourism as areas in which Washington can help the Nairobi government get back on its feet.

“The number one thing would be the economy because they lost so much when they went through that period of violence. So basically, he’s urging the US government and other concerned partners to give a helping hand to Kenya, not in terms of development, but maybe aid that can help to relocate those people who are displaced, aid that can go to the health care system, aid that can go to the tourism industry, which has been, even still is the bread and butter of Kenya,” he said.

Prime Minister Odinga also addressed hunger as another pressing issue, affecting large regions of his country and also affecting Kenya’s role in serving as a hub for hunger relief in neighboring Somalia. He spoke about Kenya’s role as a US ally in the war against terrorism and welcomed foreign investment in Kenyan business as the way to build a secure future. Journalist Ndiho also noted that it was ironic but understandable that much of the Kenyan prime minister’s discussion yesterday at Washington’s Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) focused on the political crisis in another African country.

“I think that the reason Zimbabwe took center stage is simply because he’s one of those African leaders who has spoken out against the (Mugabe) regime because he’s been a victim in Kenya. He won the election, and – according to him, he’s the president who was never sworn in. That is how he put it. So I think when he looks back at what he went through last year and the early part of this year, somehow, it keeps on resonating in his mind. And with all that is going on right now in Zimbabwe, he said there is no way they can have an independent, later on, free and fair election because the opposition’s hands are tied,” he noted.

(11:00 a.m. EDT)

SECRETARY RICE: I’d like to welcome the Prime Minister of Kenya, Prime Minister Odinga. It is very good to have you here. I believe that your election as prime minister shows that the Kenyan people have come through difficult times, but it was really the strength of Kenyan democracy, Kenyan civil society, and the will of Kenya’s leaders to resolve the crisis that brings us to this moment. I am looking forward to an update on how you’re doing on the reforms that have been agreed. But Kenya has a good friend in the United States, and the United States believes that it has a good friend in Kenya. So, welcome.

PRIME MINISTER ODINGA: Thank you so much, Condi. I’m very happy to be back here in Washington, this time as Prime Minister. I said yesterday, we are very grateful to the U.S. for the support that we received in our hour of need during the crisis. You personally came to Nairobi and I want to confirm here that your personal role in this process made it possible for us to achieve the understanding. This role played also by the UN, by the European Union, and other friends of Kenya.

As you know, peace has returned back to Kenya. We have come here to say that Kenya is up and moving again; we are ready for business. That’s why we are actively appealing to the friends of Kenya to come back. We are appealing to the business to come and invest in Kenya, tourists to  come back to Kenya, because it is now safe again. And we want the world to see that we want to move this forward. This is an experiment (inaudible) the first time in Africa. It’s a pioneering exercise, but we want to show that it can work. And that’s why the team are coming here. It’s a mixed team, both sides of the coalition with me here and the Minister for Defense, and also the Minister for Transport and Assistant Minister for Trade. So I’m very happy to be in D.C. again.

SECRETARY RICE: Well, you and the President did a fine job to get Kenya back on the road again, and welcome, Raila. Good to have you here.

PRIME MINISTER ODINGA: Thank you. I am bringing a gift (inaudible) basket to the people of America.

SECRETARY RICE: Thank you.

PRIME MINISTER ODINGA: Thank you.

QUESTION: What would you like President Mbeki to say to Mugabe when they meet later today?

SECRETARY RICE: Well, we’re very concerned about the crisis in Zimbabwe.

We’re concerned for the people of Zimbabwe. We’re concerned for the people of the region, because obviously the refugee flow, the violence that has been a part of this crisis. We’re very concerned about the elections and we’re trying to support the efforts of regional organizations to ensure free and fair elections, but it’s very difficult when you have the kind of intimidation that is going on now in Zimbabwe. And so I think that it is time for the leaders of Africa to say to President Mugabe that the people of Zimbabwe deserve a free and fair election, that you cannot intimidate opponents, you cannot put opponents in jail, you cannot threaten them with  charges of treason, and be respected in the international community. And I think that’s a strong message, and I hope it’ll be delivered. Thank you very much.

QUESTION: Minister Odinga, would you like to comment on Zimbabwe?

PRIME MINISTER ODINGA: Yes. First, I really want to thank Condi for those comments that – about Zimbabwe. As I have said myself, is that Zimbabwe remains an eyesore on the African continent. It is a big embarrassment that a leader can say on the eve of an election that he’s not willing to hand over power to an opponent, and he can only hand over power to a member of his own political party. I think this is an embarrassment to Africa because it makes a sham of the presidential elections. You cannot have free and fair elections when opponents are being beaten up, when the Secretary General of the party, opposition party, is in detention, and very flimsy charges, possibly to be charged with treason.

So my view is that the time has come for the international community to act on Zimbabwe, the way that it did in Bosnia. I do not think that we are going to get free and fair elections in Zimbabwe. And what we need in Zimbabwe is (inaudible) an international peacekeeping force so that eventually proper elections can be held.

SECRETARY RICE: By the way, we will have a roundtable tomorrow at the United Nations Security Council. I’m going to co-chair that roundtable with the Foreign Minister of Burkina Faso, which is, of course, on the Security Council at this time. And perhaps we will be able to bring some international attention. This is, from our point of view, a matter for the Security Council of the United Nations to deal with.

Thank you.

THE CLOSING DOWN OF NAKURU KISUMU RAILWAYS LINE WOULD HURT WESTERN KENYA

BUSINESS PEOPLE IN WESTER KENYA ARE UP IN ARMS AGAINST THE CLOSING DOWN OF NAKURU-KISUMU RAILWAY LINE BY THE RVR

By Leo Odera Omolo

BUSINESS people and traders in Western Kenya are up in arms against the proposed plan to close down the railway line between Nakuru and Kisumu towns, saying it seriously hurt the region economically.

The effect of the closure would be felt in far field as Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, DRC and Southern Sudan..

The Rift Valley Railways {RVR} a South African multinational company , which a few years ago signed an agreement with the Kenyan government which enabled it took over the management of the railways services previously managed by the Kenya railways Corporation announced last week that that it was closing down the 100 year old railways line, which was built in 1900

Members of the business community in the region have, however, expressed concern over the decision by RVR to close down the Nakuru-Kismu railways line, arguing it would impact negatively on their operations and hurt the users of the line economically.

The rail line in question is regarded as the economic mainstay of Western Kenyan regions. Used in the transportation of tea, coffee, maize and sugar which are grown. and produced in the region in abundance.

Stakeholders have voiced concern that the closure of the Nakuru-Kisumu line had a far-reaching implications on economic activities in the regions and also on the land-locked neighbouring countries of Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi as well as the DRC and Southern Sudan. Business people in the northern Tanzanian towns of Musom, Tarime, Mwanza and Shinyanga are also known to depend on their regular supplies via Kisumu port , located on the eastern tip of Lake Victoria.

The railway line is so vital in the transportation of farm products such as tea, coffes, maize and sugar from the region to the market outlets in Mombasa, Nairobi and other towns.

Players in the sugar industry sub-sector of Kenya’s economy hve also complained bitterly about the planned closure of the Nakuru-Kisumu rail line,

The announcement by the RVR came last week in the wake of bitter complaints by the Mumias sugar company, one of the largest sugar producing companies in Western Kenya that it was contemplating to stop using the RVR to transport sugar to the market due to frequent delays and unpredictability.

The Mumias sugar Chief Executive dr. Evans Kidero had expressed concern that it takes up to right days to move his company’s sugar to the market in Nairobi and other parts of the country. H added that the delays had caused crisis in the market system of sugar products in the country..

The RVR made an impromptu announcement saying it would immediately close Nakuru-Kisumu railway line, citing increased cases of vandalism.

The stakeholders in the sugar industry says the closure of the rail line, which has been in active use ever since its construction in 1902 will greatly hamper transportation of sugar from factories in Western Kenya to the capital, Nairobi and onward to the coastal port city of Mombasa and other smaller towns in Central and Eastern Provinces of Kenya..

As the result of the latest development, members of the business community in the cut off regions, clearing and forwarding agents and importers at the Kenyan port City of Mombasa have appealed to the government to immediately revoke the contract it entered with the RVR, a South African company which took over the management of the Kenyan Railways Corporation. They want the railway to revert to its former status quo.

A spokesman for the Kenya International Freight Forwarders and Warehousing association Mr. Peter Otieno was recently widely quoted in the local press as saying that the closure of Nakuru-Kisumu railway line would create unnecessary delays in delivery of cargo between Mombasa and Kisumu and Mombasa and inflates extra freight costs.

The same media had quoted the representative of the Ugandan business community mr George Kidima that the closure of the line “portends serious effect on the economies of not only Kenya and Uganda, but all the land-locked countries in East and central Africa whose exports and imports passes through Kenya to the sea outlet.”

The sales, Marketing and Customer relations of RVR Mr. Russel Carmichail was also quoted as having assured the traders who will be affected by the closure of the line would be assisted to transport their goods to the final destinations. But, he, however, did not elaborate how this will be effected.

The railways services in Kenya has been limping for a long time. It may take along time for it to regain its lost glory as the choice of the mode of passenger and cargo as it used to be up to the late 1970s.

During its hey-days, which lasted up to the early 1980s, Kenya Railways Corporation was the choice company for transport of freight. But now the glory is lost and the bulk of cargo are hauled by heavy trucks that are fast destroying what is left of Kenya road network, due to inadequate capacity and stagnated technology, continued overstaffing, coupled with a break down in system and declining capital investment led to unnecessary high operating cost, losses, negative cash lows and inability to sustain operations.

And owing to declining cargo traffic, Kenya Railways corporation had reduced its staff by more than 50 per cent 15 years ago and further drastic reduction of staff before it handed over the railways services to the RVR a few years ago.

Railways transport in Kenya now needs complete turn around in term of new technology and capacity. This are some of the reasons why the government had seen it fit to off-loaded its operation and ventured into a contract with RVR. ,which in turns appears as if it is incapable of turning it around..

FORMER AIDE OF PRIME MINISTER BACK IN FULL SWING

BY JEFF OTIENO IN KISUMU

Chairman of Sony Sugar Company Herbart Ojwang who for along time served as personal assistant (P.A) to Raila Odinga a couple of years ago is back vigorously once again in the political lime light.

Ojwang who severed links with the Prime Minister on unclear grounds had to jump ship and was salvaged by the former influential foreign affairs Minister now President Mwai Kibaki personal adviser Mr.Raphael Tuju to land the lucrative docket he has todate until the expiry of his contract which runs upto late 2009 next year.

A few days ago, Hebart was spotted by a group of hawk-eyed journalists having dinner with a local Kisumu based controversial contractor, a powerful local government Chief Officer and Gem Mp Jackoyo Midiwo in one of the leading Hotels in what keen observers believe was a perch up schemes to bring him back into the circles of the PM Raila Odinga.

Jackoyo who many believe is Raila Odinga pointman in the region is said to be having a soft spot for Herbart and according to sources close to the PM Camp, he bitterly protested his unceremonious exit.

Impeccable sources confided to this writer that the schemes to bring him to the lime light started a few months to the last General Elections when Herbart is said to have boarded a passenger plane one evening to Kisumu during Raila Odinga¢s fund raiser at Yatch club.

This journalist could however not establish whether it was by coincidence or design for him to have got a seat next to the PM where they could be seen exchanging heartily to the amusement of those who were on board.

It¢s alleged that the former aide had some invitation cards and was destined to go to the occasion to equally extend his olive branch and support to his former boss.

According to the sources, the PM told him to instead channel what he had to one of the aides who was aboard the plane for fear of victimizations by the rival camp.

The sources further confided that the closeness was given some boost when the Spectre international owned by the Odinga family had some difficulties to get molasses which is a crucial raw material for the plant from the local millers.

The millers apparently had got some decrees from above not to deal with the Odinga company, but Herbart sources opine came in handy and they are transacting harmoniously todate.

Recently, during the PM home coming in Bondo, Herbart was in attendance and was seated in away befitting those who matter in the circles of power.

I almost died today! & How I plan to spend my new lease!

Those of you who have had a chance to read my autobiography, “Except for the Lord,” know that I have not known peace for many years. But today, I say it loud and clear that except for the good Lord, my journey on earth would have expired! Here is what and how it happened.

1. The Minnesota camp meeting @ Hutchinson started last Friday, June 13.
2.Due to other pastoral responsibilities, I did not join them until Sunday.
3.On Monday, I returned due to other pressing church issues.
4.On Tuesday, I decided to stay and welcome one of my elders mum and an aunt to his dear wife.

And so today, Wednesday, June 18,2008

1.As I was planning to leave @ 5:00 am so as to catch up with the pastor’s meeting @ 7:45 am, I realized that my left leg was swollen. My wife immediately read danger and advised me to lay down lifting my swollen leg up.
2.I called the clinic but was given a 5:00 pm appointment. Things became worse and therefore asked them to have any doctor examine my swollen leg.
3.I arrived at the clinic at 9:40 am, was seen by the doctor who recommended that I go for ultra sound. When the ultra sound was taken, they found out that I had a blood clot on my left leg. The Doctor recommended that I check in with emergency immediately. I drove myself to Methodist.

At Methodist hospital,

1.They kept me waiting with the pain for 2 hours. Why? Because I did not have medical insurance. I have had excellent insurance with fedex Kinkos for the last 2 years. I recently quit so as to put more time into the ministry. I had hoped that there would be no sickness until my wife picked one.
2.I was finally admitted and treatment began
3.The doctors-4 of them told me to count myself luck to be a live. Had the clot moved to the heart, that would have been the end of me. After several tests, they would not come up with the reason for the clot
4.I was put on very expensive medication for 6 months. Today’s medication costed $ 900.00
5.I was discharged @ 11:00 pm
6.I am very thankful to be home and alive. The pain is slowly dying out.
7.Thanks to all those who prayed for me and paid me a hospital visitation.
8.I have been asked to take a rest.

Tomorrow, I will write on lessons learned.

I am very tired and therefore need to surrender to bed.

Good night.

As you might be aware, doctors discovered a blood clot on my left leg which would have definitely killed me yesterday.

I left the hospital last night and I am now home recuperating. I am on very expensive medication for the next six to 12 months. Several tests have not so far given them a clue as to what happened. What they all seem to agree, is that I am luck to be a live.

I truly thank the good Lord for yet another miracle! Glad to be alive and back home with the family.

In a very special way, I would like to thank all those who have called, written, send flowers or stopped by to pray with me. Know for sure that you’re truly appreciated. I wanted to write to each one and express my deepest appreciation but I am still too week to sit on the computer for too long. My dear wife keeps on reminding me to rest and leave the computer alone. I agree with her and that is why I am not able to reply to each one of you individually.

Here is how I plan to spend my remaining days:

1. I have re-purposed in my heart to live every single minute as though it was my last.
2. I have re-dedicated my life entirely for the work of God. Now than ever before I need to grow Maranatha to 1000 members and by faith do everything possible to buy our God a house of worship!
3.I will work hard and pay all bills to avoid leaving a burden to my family
4.As soon as I get better, I will write a will. In this way, I will give clear instruction on where to be buried to avoid drama
5.Will start preparing my family for any eventuality
6.Will start some projects back in Africa that will help my needy relatives in the event that I am gone
7.I will work hard to complete some books that I have been planning on writing
8. Want to live peacefully with all God’s children. If I have offended anyone, then I am truly sorry
9. I will continue sharing as long as I am able do.

Well, my life has changed for ever! Once again thanks for your prayers!

One of this fine days, all the sufferings of this world will be the things of the past. Until then, let us remain faithful and ready. Shall we!

Barbaric! eastandard news cid=159

I say it again,Kenyans we have come along way. These days we queue for the bus or mathree, we queue in the bank, or at City Hall or at Electricity House to pay the bills, we do not board an overcrowded bus or mathree, and hence the overall ;you first’ mentality has natured. We also turn up to vote out wayward politicians. However, there are certain things my 10th great grandfather Ragem, instructs we must stop. http://www.eastandard.net/news/?id=1143988668&cid=159 Read what’s reported in the standard and tell me if you do not agree these acts are just barbaric! Why can’t the police arrest and prosecute people intent on delivering mob justice?  Why do we have these traits? We ape. To wit, we continue propagating these trends because in our country, there is a lacking in modern jurisprudence. The police prefer to shoot before arresting. When they arrest, they often let the guilty of the hook, and we rarely hear of the outcome of those popular arrests. So the citizen are taking the law in their own hands and the circle continues, then it looks normal to lynch, kill, to maim, to loot, to disobey the law.

INTRIGUES IN LUO POLITICS AS THE DEFEATED FORMER MPS FLOCKS INTO THE PM’s OFFICE WITH THEIR CVS IN SEARCH OF GOVERNMENT AND PARASTATAL JOBS.

By Leo Odera Omolo

Discontent is high inside Luo Nyanza following the bad rumours that the immediate former MPs who were rejected by the electorate in last December’s general election are flocking into the Nairobi office of the Prime Minister with their CVs in search of government appointments.

The same rumours goes that the former MPs are hungry lots, but strangely enough they are said to be seeking the government and parastatal jobs already held by their fellow Luos.

Of course there are very few Luos holding plum jobs in both government, parastatals and quasi-government organizations. And there are a few Luos serving in diplomatic missions abroad. The majority of them had secured their diplomatic posting during the reign of the former Foreign Minister Raphael Tuju, and are said to be performing exemplary well.

A few Luos are heading parastatals. The most notable is Dr. Ongong’an Achieng’ who is the Managing Director of the Kenya Tourist BoaRD{KTB}. The board was hitherto run down and the country was losing the battle for tourism business, which is a major source of the scarce foreign exchange. Dr. Achieng’ is a performer and a workaholic man whose brief reign at the helm of the KTB has seen rapid growth in the tourism industry.

Other CEO include MS Rosemarie Mkok who is heading the Kenya Sugar Board in acting capacity following the recent suspension of the KSB Chief Executive Andrew Otieno, But in a brief stint Ms Mkok has made a mark as a performer and an effective manager. Otieno, according to sources, is under investigations for alleged crimiunal related matters.

The other parastatal Luo CEO is George Okungu who is heading the most lucrative Kenya Pipeline Company limited. Okungu is also credited for being an exemplary performer. He has been there ever since the days of NARC accession to power in 2002. He had at first served as the deputy MD under Dr. Shem Ochuodho and took over when the latter was shown the exit door.

There are several Luo CEOs of the various parastatal bodies such as Paul Odolla who heads the SONY Sugar Company who together with the hardworking chairman of the board of directors Mr. Herbert Ojuwang’ have turned the hitherto financially strapped firm into a vibrant corporate business entity to the satisfaction of the local sugar can be farming communities. Sonysugar has contracted close to 25,000 outgrowers in five administrative districts, namely Rongo, Migori, Kuria, Gucha and Homa-bay.

Another parastatal CEO is Prof. Julius Nyabundi who head s the financially limping Chemelil Sugar Company in Nyandoi sugarbelt. Nyabundi’s managerial capacity may be put to one thousand question mark. Chemelil used to produced between 2500 bags to 3000 bags per day, but ever since the former dons at Maseno University took over the production capacity has gone down to a worrisome level. Chemelil is now only able to produce between 800 and 12 gunny bags of sugar per day. This does not even represent the half of its production capacity. On several occasion this has gone under numerous probe by the Kenya Anti Corruption Commission staff and sleuths. The government must make a radical change in order to rescue Chemelil Sugar from the sharks.

Eng. Martin Owiti, the man who is also credited for having turned SONYSUGAR around back to life from its deathbed is currently doing extremely well at the Muhoironi Sugar Company, though this firm is still under the official receivership.. Owiti is a joint receiver managers with K. Bett. Sugarcane farmers are getting paid in time and in an efficient manner like what is currently happy with the two.

There are only two Luos serving as the chairmen of the parastatals bodies, These are Mr Zablon Owigo Olang a former MP for Ndhiwa who is currently the chairman of the Lake Basin Development authority{LBDA}. Mr. Olang , according to confidential reports reaching us is a performer, though the LBDA has limited resources he has steared the parastatal on well.

The other presidential appointee serving the parastatal is Mr. Hebert Ojuwang’s who is the chairman of the SONYSUGAR Company board of directors. Ojuwang’ a shrewd business man took over the management of SONYSUGAR when the firm’s resources were being vandalized by a cartel of rogue staff, friends and relatives. Cane farmers were forced to go up to six months before being paid for their cane crops harvested, delivered and crushed by the company processing factory at Awendo. There were hue and cry about rampant corruption in weighbridge, transport, sales of the finished product and harvesting.

The Awendo-based SONY sugar was almost going burst as the looting of its resources had intensified forcing the government to change its five different CEOs within a brief period of five years. At the moment cane farmers within Awendo and its environs are quite happy with the new management team under the stewardship of Mr. Ojuwang. The company has become zero tolerant to corruption and other vices.

But the rumour making the round within Awendo and its environs is that an elderly former MP from the greater Southern Nyanza region has persistently been pestering the Prime Minister’s with his CV. The gentleman is said to be aged about 72 year old while the current Chairman is in his late 40s or early 50s.

Instead of these former Luo MPs making use of the good money they are alleged to have looted from the CDF during the 9th Parliament by establishing service and manufacturing businesses in Kisumu, they are still loitering around looking for jobs. In the business and commercial front, Kisumu is still under the economic and commercial grip of the Asians and other non-Luo merchants.

In the diplomatic postings, there are several Luo ambassadors and High Commissioners like ms Rachele Omamo {France}Rateng’ Oginga Ogego{Washington}, Lazarous Ombaye Amayo{Zambia}, mDan Madundu {Eggypt} and Tom Amolo {Pretoria} only to mention a few. These Luos diplomats are said to be performing exemplarily well in harmonising Nairobi’s relations with other capitals of the world with distinction and credit.

But despite of the excellence performance, some oldest and tired former Luo MPs are said to ne engaged in intensive lobbying for their jobs.

The one million question being asked here and there is that; Is it necessary to replace a Luo from this constituency who is serving the government with another Luo from another constituency. Does it augur well with the ODM strategies for the future.,.This kind of downward looking strategies could only serve to antagonize the community, and yet the grand coalition government has so many openings to accommodate these former MPS turned job seekers.

Some of these former MPS are known to be parents with grown up children who in turn have already acquired university degrees, and should be the one seeking for employment in government and parastatal bodies, but not their rapidly ageing fathers. Moreover these people were flatly rejected at the polls by the electorate for various reasons, therefore they should go home and enjoy whatever they have and leave the field for young and energetic sons and daughter.

‘The ODM also need to pull its sacks up and stand firm against its loose talking adherents and the so-called power brokers operating and politicking within the pubs and restaurants in Kisumu town with vernomous and dreadful rumours. The so-called members of the moribund Luo Council of Elders, which at times acting as a wing of the party is another source of discontent.

The so-called power brokers if their actions are not checked in time could spoil things and the good work being put in place by the Luo political kingpin Raila Amolo Odinga.
During the Prime Minister homecoming parties and celebrations which started in Kisumu City, one of the Luo MPs was notably absent.. But it later emerged that Joshua Orwa Ojodeh, who is an Assistant Minister for Internal Security and a team of other security personnel had flown to the war-ravaged Mt. Elgon district for on a spot checking inspection of security operation in the areas.

Ojodeh therefore could not be in attendance in these series of parties and celebrations due to the fact that he had gone on government mission. It was the mission of the same government headed by Raila Odinga as the prime Minister, and as such it defeats all the logics for any busy body to start dreadful rumours that the Assistant Minister absenteeism was meant that he is fighting Hon Odinga politically There is so many air balloon loose talks of this kind in Kisumu and its environ, which are only fueling misunderstanding among the elected leaders from the region Mr. Odinga is doing is doing an excellent work for this our beloved Kenyan nation and as such people who surrounds him should be grateful for the work he is doing. All must appreciate what he has achieved so far and give him breathing time to achieve more in the coming years. Idlers should go back home and work in their farms.. this idler talkers do not have instrument with which they can measure up the degree of loyality of an individual to Raila..

Ojodeh is a very loyal and staunch follower of Raila Odinga who has stood with side by side with “Agwambo”.at the time of need and as such should not be despised by these destructive and unproductive bunch of political sycophants.

It is time many Luo political operative scale down their uncoordinated public utterences, especially sycophantic utterances against their fellow Luos personalities. If you remove a Luo from Ugenya from a parastatal job and replaced him with a Luo from Karachuonyo you have virtually nothing for the interest of the community, but only served to antagonise it..

Well performing diplomats should be left alone to continue serving Kenya and should not be replaced with people with dubious qualification in the diplomatic services, simple to create jobs for them for the sake of it in the same context the rejected former Luo MPS must stop the bad habit of pestering the PM with CVs. They must go home and wait for the year 2012 or retire honourably and leave the political field altogether for the younger people.

Those Luos busy bodies who are pretending to be Raila Odinga loyalists or more loyal than the others should know that the entire community voted for the ODM on man to man. It was a total commitment for the realization of the meaningful change that the entire Kenyan population want, but not for individual egoistic and selfish interests.

.On equal terms. Members of the Luo Council of Elders should also engaged themselves on gainful businesses, and must at the same time stop acting as the supervisers of the elected MPS. They should the MP s alone to serve the electorate and stop spreading dreadful rumours on non-existent issues. They should give Raila and the present crop of MPs the breathing space to serve the wananchi..

Some members of the so-called Luo Council of Elders are people who cannot even win a seat in a local primary school committee and such they should stop sowing the seeds of discord among the elected leaders;

That is the way forward.

Fw: ODM MEMBERS LETTER

Folks,

When we have to face challenges of politiking, we must be prepared to be both in the giving and receiving political punches.  Even those who made it to the top braved the same hardships, sometimes worse.  It is always said that if you cannot stand the heat of fire in the Kitchen, stay out of it.  Let those who can brave the heat stay in the kitchen.

I recently received various email exchanges asking me to stay out of internet and stop my kind of Kenyan Political Conversation in the internet email exchange then a letter followed in the mail (which I hereby attach) without any signature or from whom it is coming.  I treat such letters as threats, trying to instil fear in me.  I suspect I can detect the author of the letter since it has same sounding connotations like the email I received from Mr. Opon on the same subject.

Whether I am an ODM or not, I have passion in bringing about Good Democratic Governance and to be a part of those wishing to bring sensible politics back to Kenya, so we can together set goal standards to all citizens of Kenya and shape values instead of divisive politics and those of the assassins.  Being in America a blessed land, I got my voice back where I could continue to voice for the vulnerable and voiceless, so in my participation in politics I may turn the pain as well as those of others into rich memories in the future, that people in public life and those in leadership ought to be accountable.  The world is a good place when people have good intentions not selfish and mean attitudes.

Because the author or authors did not sign the letter, it may mean a lot of sinister motives and so I thought I should share with the authorities and the public hoping they will come to the open and explain themselves further.

I therefore attach the letter for your comments.

Thanking you comrades,

Re:Thorn in the flesh!

Up until 1972 I was still as poor as a church mouse, but with good health. I loved sports and more especially soccer. Then something happened that changed my life to this day!

In my first quarter in high school-form 1, I became sick on my left leg,
a condition that forced me out of school for 2 years as I desperately sought for healing that unfortunately never occurred.

Since then,I have lived with a pain on my left leg,a very painful experience indeed! A visit to various hospitals has not provided a lasting solution.

The Minnesota camp meeting @ Hutchinson has been on since Friday, June 13th until Sunday, June 22nd, 2008. I joined them on Sunday, but had to return home due to other pressing church business. As I was about to leave for camp meeting this morning, the pain kicked in. Concerned about the swelling, my wife-nurse instructed me to lie in bed while lifting my affected leg up. My appointment is at 5:00 PM. A long day indeed!

Staying in bed for the whole day is the most challenging thing to me!
I am one person who is ever on the move. As soon as I am done with one thing, I am ready with another one. According to my wife, I should not even be closer to the computer. Well she went to work and therefore took a few minutes to write this article.

In my bed rest, I recalled the story of the apostle Paul. He had
a condition that he describes as “a thorn in the flesh.” (2 Corinthians 12:7-10. He pleaded with the precious Lord thrice to remove it. The Lord who knows the end from the beginning answered, “My grace is sufficient.”

For a period of 36 years, I have pleaded with the good Lord to take this pain away, but the answer has been the same, “my grace is sufficient.”
I have now come to accept the fact that I will live with this pain until I go to the grave. That’s Ok! But today, the pain is too much! I know that my Lord is more than able to heal me. Whatever He does is acceptable to me! He has brought me this far and sure knows what’s best for His work on earth.

Do you find yourself in the same predicament! Continue to trust in the Lord Jesus, who alone has power to heal and make things better for His children. I will continue to trust Him daily no matter what! What about you my friend!

The jorney home is long and full of obstacles. Let us continue praying for one another knowing very well that He who is on our side is able than he who is on the other side.

Re:The faith of our parents!

I just returned home after 4 long hours at one of my elders home to welcome his dear mother and maternal aunt to his dear wife. On arrival,
I found that they were taking a nap after 22 hours of traveling that included three stops.

When they woke up,we had a wonderful conversation, one that reminded me of the joy and gladness that the saved will have as they gather from the four corners of the world never to part again.

What impressed me most, is what has always impressed me whenever I carry a conversation with our parents. Here it’s!

1.Their strong faith in the living God.
2.Their joy to know that their children are active in the church
3.Their satisfaction to know that their children are returning to God that which belongs to Him
4.Their excitement to know that their children have friends in diaspora
5.Their happiness to see a pastor come to welcome them

Over and over again, they repeated the above points.

From childhood, you and I have been taught the ways of the Lord. As we became of age, we were supposed to check to make sure that that which we were taught is nothing but the truth.

Since coming here, some of us have remained faithful to “thus saith the Lord.” To you I say, thank you and keep it up.

But my concern is for those who since coming out here, they have forgoten that which they were taught. To you, please know that the prayers of your parents continue to ascend to the throne of grace. They will never rest until they know that all is well with your faith. Oh the faith of our parents! How I yearn for it!

My question is: What exactly happened. There was a time when you were such a God fearing individual. Where did you miss the mark? How long will you continue hurting your parents, those who love you and the good Lord. I appeal to you to turn around and head home. As Mathew asks “What will it benefit a man if he gains the whole world but lose his own soul?” Mathew 16:26! Ever taken time to ponder that!

Just a thought

ANAC “The Voice of 30 Million Nigerians Abroad” – Akeem Bello

HONORABLE AKEEM BELLO EMERGES TO LEAD ALL NIGERIANS ABROAD.
“ANAC The Voice of 30 Million Nigerians Abroad”
(See full report on www.anacweb.org)

I Honorable Akeem Bello pledges to unite all Nigerians abroad, “Our estimated 20 million Nigerians in International Communities must have a unified voice in the governance of Nigeria; we must enhance the economic prosperity of our people; we must address the lack of security in our nation; tackle corruption; and provide technological exposure from abroad into Nigeria with the entrepreneurial muscle needed to take advantage of the current development climate in Nigeria”.

The conglomerate organization for Nigerians abroad,  All Nigerian American Congress, Inc. (ANAC), held their summer congressional session in the Hoosier city of Indianapolis, Indiana at the downtown Marriott. At this conference, a number of the Board of Directors and Trustees were elected which culminated on Saturday evening with the election of the Chairman of the Board, the Honorable Akeem Bello.   Professor Issa Odidi, Presidential Candidate for the New Democrat Party of Nigeria (ND) in the recent Nigerian Election,  was considered as a potential Chairman for the ANAC Board.  However, he stated that he was only interested in holding a Board seat in order to focus his attention on the advancment of the ANAC Canadian chapters from Toronto to Vancouver as well as other ANAC International Chapters in Europe, Asia, Australia and the African Continent, and, therefore, placed his full support behind the Honorable Akeem Bello for the position of Chairman of the Board.

Mr. Bello in his acceptance speech congratulated the other two contenders, Dr. Abdulateef Kareem,  Chairman for Illinois Chapter and Secretary General of ANAC and Honorable Dshaikh Izuchukwu, ANAC Chairman for the California chapter.  Thereafter, he immediately announced the next ANAC congressional session heading for Toronto, Canada, where efforts will be to vitalize the All Nigerian European Congress for the UK, efforts to get All Nigerian Asian Congress for Nigerians in Japan, China, India, All Nigerian Australian Congress and All Nigerian African Congress for Nigerians in the African continent.

Mr. Bello vowed to unite all Nigerians, engage the leadership in Nigeria and move the agenda of Nigerians abroad to center stage in Nigerian polity and governace. (As we know Honorable Akeem Bello is the Chief Deponent in the Class-Action lawsuit to secure Nigerians Abroad their alignable rights to register and vote from anywhere in our world -  the anticipated Federal Court ruling is scheduled for Friday,  27th of June 2008 in Abuja, Nigeria).

In a Sunday morning strategy session of the newly constituted Board of Trustees, the group layed out a road map for consolidating the entire Nigerian International Community, bringing together all the different regional and tribal groups of Nigerians in the International community and most especially a specific path to obtain economic and technological muscle for the different Nigerian-owned corporate groups in the International Community as a first installment in the global involvement of Nigerian Diaspora in the 2020 development goal of Nigeria that centered around his commitment to unite all Nigerians abroad as previously read in his quote above at the beginning of this article, “Our estimated 20 million Nigerians in International Communities must have a unified voice in the governance of Nigeria; we must enhance the economic prosperity of our people; we must address the lack of security in our nation; tackle corruption; and provide technological exposure from abroad into Nigeria with the entrepreneurial muscle needed to take advantage of the current development climate in Nigeria”.
