PRESS STATEMENT FROM BISHOP DR WASHINGTON OGONYO NGEDE
July 5, 2008
The Grand Regency saga is headed to again divide the healing country should President Kibaki fail to read the moods of Kenyans over the matter and take appropriate action to save the country.
Kenyans are very much hurt with remarks by Trade Minister Uhuru Kenyatta over the Grand Regency issue when he tries to defend his cabinet colleague Amos Kimunya over an issue the public can easily see that there was a mistake.
Such sentiments by Uhuru, are destructive to the nation and to prevent further harm to this country, President Kibaki should move fast and dismiss Kimunya if Kenyans are to believe the government’s war on corruption in the country.
The Grand Regency sale and other graft related matters are of great national concern and Kenyans will not allow anybody irrespective of his/her status in the society to hoodwink them on such issues.
It is on that note therefore that we as Religious leaders, tell Minister Uhuru Kenyatta to realize that Kenyans are very much awake on the goings-on in the country and are not ready to be swayed or coaxed into believing the unbelievable matter.
Uhuru should stop behaving like ayouth winger to his cabinet colleague Amos Kimunya over the Grand Regency matter by trying to give unnecessary defence to the Finance Minister while anybody would clear see that Kimunya had an hand in this dubious sale of this great property.
Being a deputy Prime Minister, Uhuru should take the interest of Kenyans as apriority instead of giving comments that either clearly expose him as a youth winger or selfish individual, a move that discredit him as a national leader.
Once one is mentioned on such issues, the honorable thing to do is to step aside so as to facilitate investigation and we believe Uhuru Kenyatta knows this and Kenyans are now wondering why he has to defend Kimunya in this sensitive matter that almost everybody sees has a mistake.
Kenyans have spoken against the sale of the Grand regency hotel to foreigners, leave alone the manner in which the transactions were done, and there is no way the same Kenyans can allow just some few individuals to mess up the country for their own gain as majority and common citizens suffer.
The reactions from Kenyans including those of their political and religious leaders against the sale and the manner in which the whole issue was conducted, are enough for the Kimunya to move out of the Finance Ministry because it is clear Kenyans can no longer trust him to oversee their resources.
Uhuru must carefully weigh his statements especially those touching on the grand coalition government as he ,like any other Kenyans, knows the circumstances that led to birth of such a government. Kenyans wish will always carry the day and therefore the matter is not “a protect me or defend me issue†but of national concern.
We therefore ask President Kibaki to read the moods of Kenyans over the Grand Regency matter and dismiss Kimunya to avoid further debate on the issue which is headed to again divide the healing country.
God Bless Kenya.
Bishop Dr Washington Ogonyo Ngede,
CHAIRMAN POWER OF JESUS AROUND THE WORLD CHURCH AND COUNCIL OF NYANZA CHURCH LEADERS.

Subject: PRESS RELEASE
Uhuru’s utterances are not unusual. Birds of feather flock together and thieves normally share dens.
I am not surprised the whole saga is taking a tribal turn. Let Kenyans not be hoodwinked into turning their eyes the other way when it is a glaring fact that Kimunya acted illegally, arrogantly and with IMPUNITY as usual. Let them not drag their tribe into the affair. Everyone for himself and the truth for all.
Bishop Ngede, why can’t you just pray for Kenya to have peace or join politics as Bishop Muiru if you are popular enough to be elected.
Stop behaving as ODM activists, you need to refined your roll, Mr Bishop or be ready to start facing direct political debates
Uhuru is right to death. Kimunya will stay there. The only wrong thing with the gov is that “its full of people who are in reality worse than devil”. I sometimes wish kibaki never agreed a grand gov even if it ment a going back to the mau mau times. Am wondering why odm did shut up when Uhuru defended Kimunya. The truth is that uhuru is now commanding gema and with his force and courage even odm cannot handle that pressure. This is all political and kibaki is no longer important in gema business. As we wanted he is the president in his last term. Whether he fire kimunya or no he doesn’t need any favor from anyone. just wait till 2012 and odm will be third on that election. Uhuru is there to stay regardless of his statements. Ask your self why he was made dpm.
