Mungatana

Assistant minister for Medical Services Danson Mungatana yesterday hit out at the President Mwai Kibaki telling him to keep off from party politics and focus instead at fortifying his legacy.

Mungatana said it was time the youth and women took over the mantle of leadership since the current crop of leaders have failed to steer the country to prosperity.

He said Prime Minister Raila Odinga and President Mwai Kibaki failed to appoint women as Deputy Prime Ministers, opting for male politicians instead. He subsequently told the two that it was time for women and youth to lead the country.

“Prime Minister had the option of Charity Ngilu while President had the option of Martha Karua to appoint them as DPM for ODM and PNU, but they failed to do so instead appointing men,” said Mungatana. He also cited the likes of head of civil service Francis Muthaura and permanent secretary in the Office of PM Mohammed Isahakia respectively as old clique who should not be in the office.

Mungatana gave a strong assurance that Narc-Kenya would field women and youth to vie for top seats including presidential candidate in the 2012 general elections. He maintained that Karua would emerge as the winning presidential candidate during 2012 presidential election while he would be the Prime Minister.

Said he: “Karua will be the next President in the country and I will the Prime Minister.” The remark comes at a time when trouble was brewing in PNU camp after some affiliate parties including Narc-Kenya rebuffed Kibaki’s call for the strengthening of PNU as a party not a coalition of parties, which resulted to some officials in the coalition telling Narc-K to withdrew its membership from the coalition. On Nyamweya, the minister said he should not talk party matters.

TACKLING TRIBALISM AND ”PRESIDENT” MARTHA KARUA

It is amazing how simplistic Martha Karua is taking the problem of tribalism by saying she is going to put in place tougher sanctions to tackle tribalism, make the proposed law forceable, identify the offenders, she will advertise the notices on tribalism for the public to comply with, give the public legal authority to name and shame institutions that discriminate along ethnic lines.
I can see that if this great and tribal-minded arrogant lady who only like all GEMA sees Kenya in GEMA lenz succeeds then she will have locked up the “our own” Minister Michuki who saw no need to change the Kenyan constitution since they now had “their own” Mwai Kibaki and that changes were only necessary because Moi was bad because he was not “our own!” She will have to lock up the whole cabal in GEMA in PNU including Mwai Kibaki and most importantly she will have to lock herself up since all through her work as a Minister she has never seen the need to be national as opposed to being GEMA!
Tribalism is a reflex which was firmly fixated in the minds of GEMA by no lesser a person than Jomo Kenyatta to such an extent that it cannot be banned with the drop of a pen by an powerful arrogant Minister of Justice, National Cohesion and Constitutional Affairs, Martha Karua who is the very symbolism of the vice in the republic.
One of Kenya’s political heroes, Masinde Muliro challenged Jomo Kenyatta over oathing and tribalism and in fact he told him that there was no collective responsibility in assassinations of Ministers and for doing so he lost his cabinet post with a drop of the pen.
When I was a young man Jomo Kenyatta in his campaigns dubbed all non-GEMA Kenyans, NYAMU(wild animals), meaning that only GEMA were in that vein human beings. According to him the Luos (Mmeras ) were the worst of all NYAMUs! The after-effects of such tribal campaigns are that other tribes henceforth emit a very pungent smell as far as GEMA are concerned, with the Luos emitting the worst of the smell and sadly the tribal myopia led to the recent post elections violence.
Jomo Kenyatta used to address the crowds in English, then Kiswahili and finally in Agiguyu, the last which used to move the GEMA community in the crowd into jeers and tears of joy.
While Jomo Kenyatta was in detention the whole country despite and in spite of tribes acted in resonance to have him released, leading to an illustrious political doyen, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga dubbing him the African god at a time that not a single GEMA member dared even to mention the the word JOMO!
In his tribal preaching he effectively divided a people who were highly politically positively charged and united for Independence. He made it worse when he became the President of the nation but instead worked as the President of GEMA!
How will Minister Martha Karua treat this cancer implanted by her uncle that has eaten into the social fabric that even palliative management cannot handle?
Does she know that for decades Charles Jonjo could not shake hands with Luos because according to him they had Cholera and yet the Disease is an emergent public health problem that needs swift concerted well directed multidisciplinary and well funded effort by government to combat and that the Ministers take the front line in the fight of safeguarding that same public health irrespective of geography or dialect?
Does she know that during the msaliti trial only the political-cholera Jaramogi Oginga Odinga could shake the hands of Sir Charles of Kabeteshire at a time that all GEMA in government or ordinary citizens had no courage to do so?
Let us all wish her luck since GEMA needs a peaceful social cehesion than anybody else in the country since they are the ones who will definitely lose most just in case the country violently falls apart. The poor man only loses his life as opposed to the arrogant rich grabber who loses not only his life but also property no matter how criminally it was acquired.
It is good at least that she is beginning to realise that arrogance does not pay and at least if she wants to be the first woman President of Kenya then the humbler the better the chances for her.
But, a serious but, I must tell her that sincere honesty and respect for one another among triwill make tribalism irrelevant and not legislations, not arrogance of telling some true sons and daugters of Kenya that they are only fit to look after cattle!!
