Re: the challenges that come withmoney part 3

Contrally to what some spouses think/believe,joint account is far from being one of the indicators of a united family. If anything, some couples agree unwillingly to the idea of opening a joint account and spend more time being against it than enjoying it! Here is why!

1.Some see the idea of joint account as away of controlling funds by one spouse
2.Some spouses seem to benefit more than the other ones.
3.Some spouses have no direct access to the joint account
4.some spouses are not honest and trustworthy in handling the funds in the joint account

So then what’s the solution?

1.It depends from one family to another. If a joint account works for your family, then go for it.
2.Assuming there is misunderstanding and mistrust, then in addition to the joint account, let each spouse open his/her own account
3.Once you have come up with a budget which among other things allocates funds to each one for personal use, avoid monitoring how the other spouse spends his/her part of the money.

One thing you don’t want to do, is to force the idea on your spouse. Experience shows that after some time, spouses rebel and rebel in a big way.

Next time,I will write on how to make the money that un doubtly has caused pain and stress in many homes! Will you come along?

Just a thought!
