KENYANS ABROAD CONGRATULATE SENATOR BARACK OBAMA, 44th PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA:

The Kenyan Community Abroad (KCA), a Washington DC-based non-profit organization of Kenyans living in the USA and other locations both within and outside of Kenya, congratulates Senator Barack Obama on his historic election to the office of President of the United States of America.

We also extend our congratulations to the Vice President-Elect, Senator Joe Biden, to Michelle Obama and Jill Biden, and indeed to the citizens of United States of America at this great moment in the history of your country and the world.

American citizens have made it known in decisive and unambiguous terms that they have faith in President-Elect Obama to be their leader at a very challenging time for the country and the world.

Owing to Obama’s Kenyan roots, Kenyans at home and in the Diaspora have particularly enjoyed the attention our country has generated globally. KCA sees this spotlight as an important opportunity and challenge for Kenyans to demonstrate to ourselves and the rest of the world that, like the Americans, we will overcome the divisions and challenges that almost destroyed our country earlier in the year, and embrace each other as one people.

We note with admiration the way elections are carried out in United States, including the electoral system, the campaigns, the candidates, the manner in which issues are addressed, and how American citizens have conducted themselves throughout the process. This is especially instructive for Kenyans, given the post-election violence and socio-political discord that gripped our own country during late 2007 and early 2008.

KCA members, and indeed all Kenyans abroad, find great lessons in this election that we can borrow to give hope to our country again, just like Barack Obama and the American people have brought hope back to America, and indeed to the world.

Congratulations again to President-Elect Obama and to all American citizens! You have taken us to the mountaintop, and we have all seen a brighter day on the other side. Now we know that, together, we can make dreams come true…yes, we can!

Indeed the America election process is something to be admired by all nations. In particular, African nations need to learn more from the American electrol process- right from the campaigns to day light public swering in. I look forward to a day when I will carry my child to attend a political rally in Kenya.
