This is a good idea which should be explored. We however need a credible committee to plan and then recruit members. Honesty in financial isues is key.

Very good and necessary idea, especially at this time. We have to seriously think out of the box. All we have is us. Onge ng’ato ma biro aa kamoro biro timonwa. Count me in but as my namesake has pointed out we need good managers.

This idea is already being explored. There is a luo nyanza group that has just been formes. Each member is contributing 10k towards being a member. Some of this money was used to return the IPD to their home.Ground work is stiil been done.People like PLO LUMUMBA are the strong founders of the group.

Igolo paro ma riek. Gino nyalo bet Sacco with assets in form of departmental stores, within the transport sector, real estate and other profitable sectors. A reasonable percentage of profits, say 10%, may be set aside for charitable causes within the community. This idea would create much needed jobs and opportunities. Jonam, contrary to kaka iwacho, ni kia ohala ok en adier, Jowa ongeyo ohala malich, en mana ni mathoth ma diher timo ohala onge kod nyalo. Med uru paro.

This is a really good idea! The question is whether people can be trusted with this project. We may need to have someone on the ground that we all can trust.

As you all know very few of you can truthfully say that you trust your relatives back home to manage your projects, not even your parents! All the same, its a good idea.

I have been toying with an idea about microfinancing. By microfinancing here i mean we can finance the young people in our hometowns with some little money to jumpstart their lives. The amounts need not be much, about ten dollars a person and we could make it more in case the prson proves consistent in paying back.

In order to avoid many complications with taxes and other issues, we could make it a non- profit. By doing so we will not ask for any interest. We can use the Worldvision model where you monitor the progress of the individual you have sponsored and from their progress, decide whether to continue financing them or not.

I believe this, or another variation of it, would be a more practicable method of rebuilding and advancing the development of our people. If you think about it, this method would greatly cut down the problem of trusting a few individuals with large sums of money.

Hi Anyango, could you please give as much information on the PLO group that you mentioned with contacts if possible. There are no prizes for guessing who received VIP treatment when it came to helping IDP’s and even with a deal reached it does not mean an automatic return to normality for our people who were affected by the violence. I’m convinced that there are many people reading this who would like to be involved or be a part of this worthy cause.

    Regards.

Weche tee miwacho ka e gi beyo kendo koro onego walu gi. We need to act not just talk. Please pass the contacts and all relevant information so that we can get to work. I would suggest that we encourage our people in Kisumu and other towns to support our businesses. During the crisis, some quarters claimed that Kisumu would not survive without them, and now I am told that they are back. We need to take over our town in terms of business and other development issues. We also need to encourage our people to build houses around Kisumu. A lot of our able people only concentrated on investments in Nairobi.
Let us brainstorm together people to lift our people.

Guys, we seem to have relegated development issues to the backseat and politics is at the fore as usual. It would be foolish for us not to have learnt from our past mistakes. Jowa, let us focus on developing our region and not on things that will not improve the lives of our people. Have we thought of how we can pool resources to revive some of the dead industries in Kisumu? It can be done. Kisumu is a prime area for investment. I believe there is a lot of good will from the community, so if the educated and able among us can get together to target development projects, things can change. Please people, let us stop being activists and get things moving. A lot of ideas were floated during the election crisis but very little follow up has been done. Let us use this website to get things moving please.
