Kenya: Former Mathare MP switched to Migori’s County Senate seat

The one term one time Mathare MP Ochieng Mbeo has announced that he would be joining the already crowded election race for the Migori County Senate seat.

The former legislators who had also served as the Kenyan member of the East African Legislative Assembly in Arusha said his action is prompted by numerous requests from the electorate.

He was speaking during the burial of his aunt’s son, Ambassador Michael George Okeyo, whose burial took place at Kaswanga village, in Rusinga Island.Homa-Bay County. The funeral was also attended by the Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Mrs. Ida Odinga, three cabinet Ministers GERALD Otieno Kajwang {Immigration and Registration of Persons, Fred Gumo {Regional Development}, Prof Peter Anyang Nyong’o several MPs, who included Millie Odhiambo {Nominated},Eng.Nicholas Gumbo {Raried}civic leaders.

Also in attendance the chairman o the ODM electoral Board Eng Phillip Okundi, former Gwassi MP Zadock Syong’o,Mbita D.C Vincent Magoha, the chairman of the Luo Council of Elder Mzee Elily Opiyo Otondi .

Ochieng’ Mbeo is the son of the late Selemiah Mbeo Onyango who became the first Mbita MP during its inception in1966 immediately after the Senate and Regional Assemblies created under the Majimbo constitution of 1962 of the Lancaster House were abolished.

The late Ambassador Okeyo mother Philidah Nyengo was the sister to the late Senator Mbeo-Onyango.

Ochieng’ Mbeo is a resident of Sakwa East Location, Awendo district within Migori County .He is considered as close political associate of the Prime Minster Raila Odinga and a staunch follower of the ODM.
