WHY RAILA MIGHT NOT BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT

from: GEOFFREY AJIKI

A look at the current events in Kenya leaves one with many a question to ask and at the same time give answers to some of the frequently asked questions. One of the commonly asked questions is who is the most likely candidate to take after Kibaki?

Several people will answer this question diffrently but majority from my luo tribe would certainly give one answer, Raila. May be they could be telling the truth as per their analysis. However, there is little truth to their answer and the earlier they embrace it the better. I want to state categorically that i am not anti Raila or anti Luos as others might suggest. I am a Kenyan from the Luo tribe of which i am very much proud. I am entitled to my opinion and credit this to non other than Raila andd co. who fought to realize this democratic space that we now enjoy.

Back to who is the most likely candidate to take after Kibaki,i would want to make it clear that Raila is the least likely of them all. History has it that of all the three presidents Kenya has ever had, only Kenyatta did not serve as vice president. His was a different case because Kenya had just attained her independence.

Both Mwai Kibaki and Daniel Moi served as vice presidents. If history could repeat itself, then Kalonzo could be the next president.

Another fact that will almost certainly lock Tinga out is the tribe factor. We lack the numbers to win any election in Kenya.Uhuru is sitting pretty because he knows that when it comes to numbers, he has them.
All he needs is to get support from one more tribe and he will be there. The mount Kenya flock is not ready to lose power and would try to retain it at all costs. They want to protect their wealth from the luos whom they describe as arrogant and lazy. As such, they would rather have a Kalonzo or a Eugene at the expense of Raila.

Moi at one time said that KANU will rule for hundred years. If anybody doubted him then look at what is happening to his children whom he nurtured to take after him. They are all together in the so called G7 alliance which would be impossible to beat unless they is a walk out.

We must also admit that as much as we claim that Kenyans are nowadays enlightened,we must appreciate the fact that tribalism is so deeply entrenched that it will take centuries to end. The current and subequent generation of Kenyans carry with them the heavy luggage of tribalism cultivated and harvested by their fore fathers. A young boy born in a luo family would know first thing that Kikuyus are bad people. The asme applies to a Kikuyu. Get to the ground and talk to a five year old kid and you would verify this.

Factors are many but the few mentioned are enough to confirm to you that Tinga is just as far from the presidency as i am.

Raila is the President in waiting!!

Am not Luo but I beg to strongly disagree with the author’s personal views of the above article.

The man in the present Kenya with the credentials, the zeal, the citizenship, and patriot who can lead Kenya after president Kibaki is Raila Odinga.

Truth be told, Kalonzo, Ruto, Uhuru, Eugene presidency is a tall dream in the next election. May be 2018. However they will make an impact in the ballot but will be far short of the Presidency.

Luo’s for your information like any other Kenyan tribe have a right and be proud of Raila same way the Kikuyu have a preference over Uhuru and Kalenjin’s for Ruto. The pride with which they appreciate their own “should be seen with equal measure of the way other tribes fancy their leaders.

Kenya as a country is at a stage where IF we cant get a president who will not accommodate the cultural diversity of the country,is sound academically, will not steer full reforms, will not set the pace in development focus 15 years and above, will ensure all Kenyans’ have equity in the distribution of the national wealth, then we will be doomed.

Of all candidates in the next elections, Raila has the credentials to turn this country into a wealthy power house.

I appreciate the development and projects we have in President Kibaki’s time. But truth be told these should have been achieved 20years ago. If we had the right systems, checks and balances credibility, the right leaders then we ought to have achieved even much more by now.

The candidate who will try to catch the LOST time in EVEN development of the country, infrastructure,Education, settlement, Economy is Raila Amollo Odinga.

Raila is the KENYAN NELSON MANDELA.

I’m not amused by the myopic and stupid arguements of this guy called Ajiki. No one is entitled to presidency on the basis of their ethnicity or they being vice presidents. We all know that the problems we are currently facing in Kenya are purely due to bad leadership. We need a patriotic leader who has the interest of the country at heart regardless of his or her tribal background.

Wow!! What a debate. I wish to contribute and would like to look at it from a political angle, actually in Kenya it should be renamed to polistink.

First let us agree that we are all mature enough to acknowledge the fact that Kenyans vote tribally. Second the person who displays the most polistink normally gets the vote. Kenyas love the sort of the dare devil person who can come out and put the ruling establishment in check, unfortunately almost all these people, call them the reformist are currently in power. Majority of Kenyan’s still vote with their stomachs.

Allow me to comment based on the first scenerio, the tribe factor. In the coming elections we shall have two clusters of people fighting it out, those who want to crab power and those who want to retain power. The only dilemna is that both of them are in power currently. To the point , the ODM will try to crab power and the once PNU coalition which is currently a collision of sort of parties will try to retain power. Going with the current national survey statistics with credibal reserach institutions ODM is the party to beat and Raila amolo odinga is the Man to beat for the presidency. I wish to point out that everybody knows this even the G7, one of the orphan parties of PNU agrees so. In fact G7 has been on record saying that the main reason as to it’s formation is to make sure that Raila doesn’t get it .

Here is my humble analysis. We have only three serious contenders in the race for the next presidency. Apart from Raila the next are Uhuru Kenyatta and Musalia Mudavadi ” Raila’s shemeji”. Despite the ICC debacle Uhuru is set to be in the bottle box save for only one Willy Mutunga if he pulls a first one with the intergrity bill due to the ICC related cases. Raila is going to emerge victorious in round one easily. He might get it in the second round or it might be an elephant for him altogether. Why so? in the event Willy mutunga does not invoke the intergrity bill, Raila will meet Uhuru in round two. Tribal card won’t favor Uhuru to get it since Kibaki has occupied that office for two terms, Kenyans will say that the presidency is not reserved for only “certain” people or region. The elephant for Raila will be if Mutunga goes ahead and invoke the intergrity bill, then he will have to square it out with one good friend and shemeji Musalia Mudavadi. Due to Raila phobia, certain people who are not comfortable with him to get power are working around Mudavadi since they are not so sure about Uhuru’s prospects. Based on the tribal card if Uhuru is not goin to be in the ballot box, then Mudavadi will carry the day. He will benefit heavily from the Central kenya & Rift valley votes who are not happy with Raila at the moment. Western Kenya will realise that their son is getting it after all and rally behind him.

So in a nutshell, One willy Mutunga holds a key decision that will determine the next president for Kenya, not Ajiki, you or me.

Raila has my vote but whoever wins let it be as we are all kenyas!!!

    Sylvester Juma.
