Constitutional Review – Need to be Decisive

Allow me to explain this the African way:

Majority of us know about the story of the hyena that was going to a party and as he approached the venue he came to a forked path and since he was not sure which way to take, whether left or right, in his perceived wisdom he decided to take both – placed two legs on one path and two legs in the other path. He ended up being split in two and died. Never reached the venue!

I use this illustration to relate to our current state of things with the constitutional review. There are reports that the ‘Committee of Experts’ on constitutional review has retreated to the Coast to fine tune the constitutional draft and that it is a HYBRID system. Not left and not right, something in between.

The Good Book is very categorical – in the book of Revelation Chapter 3 verse 15-16:
‘I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!
So, because you are lukewarm – neither hot nor cold – I am about to spit you out of my mouth.’

Our Good Lord likes decisiveness.

I like the words of Gospel Singer, Ron Kenoly:

‘ … you are either on the Lord’s side or the devil’s side. It is a battle between good and evil and there is no demilitarized zone’

Being indecisive is sinful, cowardly and deceitful. As country we have lived many lies for too long and it is time we charted a course for once and the constitution is the only avenue available to us. We should not be taken for a ride.

The Review Team can only opt for a hybrid if we vote to choose between the Parliamentary and Presidential Constitution Drafts and we have a near tie or a tie.

What we are demanding are two drafts so that we can choose one through the ballot.

But as it is now, they can be sure that the draft will still be shot down. Hybrid is what we already have today and we do not like it much. So what hybrid are they working on?
We have lit the match for the wick and the incendiary of frustration is well packed; the ‘system’ is ready to vent. They should consider that as they prepare to avail the document to the public. Kenyans have had it up to here! You better trust me. And they know about vested interests and perpetuation of the same agenda.
