Prime Minister Raila Odinga expressed a strong commitment to oversee reforms and a new constitution for the country this year as he marked his 65th birthday.
The Prime Minister said he was determined to see the country get a new constitution, end corruption and inefficiency in Government in order to improve its economic standing in the world.
Raila said: “We must end corruption, inefficiency and bureaucracy in
Government. Corruption must particularly be faced head-on and this office must be at the forefront.”
Speaking to his staff during a party they hosted for him to mark his
birthday Thursday, the PM reflected on his life, which he said has been that of struggle almost from birth, noting that even to retain his African names (Raila Odinga) was a fight.

No regrets
“I was twice denied registration for examination because teachers wanted me to have English names.
“Such struggles have followed me through life but I do not regret,” said Raila.
The PM said he was prepared to spend the rest of his life fighting for a better country.
“This year will not be easy. Kenyans want a new constitution and they have clearly begun the year with that in mind. There are economic issues we must deal with too,” he said.
The occasion was attended by the Minister for Water and Irrigation Charity Ngilu, Assistant Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister Alfred Khang’ati and nominated MP Musa Sirma.

Raila also spoke against bureaucracy in the public service saying it had stifled development in the country.
“We must move away from business as usual and get rid of the inefficiency and bureaucracy pervading our public bodies if we are to move the next level in development,” he added.
