After Luos, No Tribe Wants the Opposition Job

WHATEVER IS GOOD FOR THE GOOSE IS ALSO GOOD FOR US. KENYA HAS NO OPPOSITION. KENYAN’S HAD DEVELOPED A CHRONIC DEPENDENCY ON LUOS TO BE THE OPPOSITION, WHILE THEY ARE BUSY SERVING THE GOVERNMENT OF THE DAY ONE OR TWO INDIVIDUALS FROM OTHER TRIBES SPORADICALLY WHO HAD JOINED WITH THE LUOS BUT THE OBLIGATION HAD BELONGED TO LUOS AS A TRIBE. NOW EVERYBODY IS DROPPING THE BALL AND LUOS ARE SAYING , ENOUGH OF THIS AGONY TO SAVE KENYANS WHO NEVER APPRECIATE! WE HAVE DONE IT FOR 50 YEARS, LET’S TAKE TURNS.

1. I THOUGHT THE KAMBAS WERE GOING TO DO IT WITH KALONSO BUT THEY DID NOT.

2. KALENJINS MADE IT CLEAR THAT THEY ARE NOT USED TO STAYING IN THE COLD AND THEY WILL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO BE IN THE GOVERNMENT.

3. LUYHAS HAVE ONE EGG IN OPPOSITION AND ANOTHER ONE WITH THE GOVERNMENT.

4. KISSIIS WOULD FOLLOW A SIMILAR MODEL.

5. THE COAST HAS NEVER UNITED FOR ANYTHING, IT IS WHICH SIDE OF BREAD IS BUTTERED.

6. NORTH EASTERN, APART FROM THERE VERY FEW NUMBERS, TEND TO LEAN TOWARDS THE GOVERNMENT FOR OBVIOUS REASONS.

7. KIKUYUS HAVE THE NUMBERS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE BUT BELIEVE IT IS THEIR TIME TO EAT, YOU CAN’T BLAME THEM. THEY WILL BE VIBRANT OPPOSITION IN 2012, YOU WILL SEE THE EMERGENCE OF ACTIVISM AND FIERY CHURCHES.

LUOS GIVE YOURSELVES A HIGH FIVE. 50 YEARS IS ENOUGH. LET US ALL SHARE RESPONSIBILITY.

Subject: NOBODY WANTS OPPOSITION AFTER LUOS

For about 50 years Luos have done a thankless job of being in opposition as a block. Yes, there has been tricles of individuals form other tribes
joining the opposition but the block of opposition has been Luos. Well
those luos are now passing the ball because we are in the government with
ODM but nobody wants the job.

ODM cannot be the government and opposition all at once. Therefore if you
are mad about 40 ministers, my friend the oppostion bench is empty, be my guest.

I fully agree with your opinion of opposition politics. It true that
we have been playing politics of oppposition for along time. But
a fighter should not surrender until he/she wins. We have not won so the question of passing the responsibility to unwilling
    society is uncall for.

There are some societies in kenya which can not provide opposition leadership because of their attitude of selfishness.
Leaders of these societies are always predent to be loyal to government even when their people are in problems.Such leaders
their objective is eat at the expense of their people.

Let us continue to fight for a better kenya for everybody, and
finally the luo ,just like other kenyans, will one day enjoy total
freedom. If we play the game of passing opposition politics on tribal table then everybody is going to lose . This Kibaki regime is
not for the poor. The poor ,even in kikuyu land,is yet to suffer if the
excess of the regime is not checked properly. This is why the police is even killing school children accusing them to belong to
    mungiki sect.

I agree with Duncan that 50 years are enough. I also do appreciate comments made by Domnic that ‘a fighter should not surrender’ The dilemna is while luos have been fighting for ‘freedom and fairness’, the other tribes have been enjoying the national cake, then turn around to mock the Luos about poverty.

Even during my time at the university, active student leadership politics were only alive thanks to the Luos. They suffered a great deal while students from other tribes would enjoy playing sell-outs.

The Luos have held the opposition button for long enough and now its time for someone who is as brave as the Luos to carry the button. I think every kenyan has the this responsility of keeping the goverment under check and balance

It calls for a sense of responsibility, selflessnes and love for order to be in an unshackled opposition. In Kenya we know very well that the GEMA love the easy way out and will do anything to stick to the honey – its like saying ‘the end justifies the means’; the kambas are so unrelaible that playing political turn-coats even if there is nothing to gain for the larger community, is their game-plan; the Luhyas are divided into two distinct groups – the Bukusus will say this today and tomorrow deny it while the lower Luhya sub-tribes may look at things abd reason out for the good of their communities. The Kisiis will always oppose anything said by a Luo and sothey are very easily predictable; Cosat, you can always bet on their disunity when some dance on the podium waving flowers that are too tired and wilting; the North Eastern brothers are government pawns. The Kalenjin will want to be favoured with everything and will try to play their cards close to their chest but… do not think that you can trust them all the time. We know what happened in 24 yrs. The Maasais seem to follow anyone who comes in and say, ‘we are being finished’ when they mean that, “I am being finished”.
That is the diversity of the Kenyan politics. My take on it is that the Luos are feared in the country even by Asian employers because of being too principled. 50 years on the back-bench did not break their resolve but sharpened their instincts and quest for order in the society. Talk about an employee lamenting the recruitment of a Luo boss – “he will be too mkali and we shall not have the freedome to do as we want” This means that the Luos love order, justice and will do whatever it takes to avoid being compromised. Is Kenya ready for such commitment and sense of responsibility?

Thanks once again for giving me the chance to air my view on oppposition politics.
I must say that Luos are God sent to the rest of Kenyans. Without the steadfast Luo unewavering opposition to injustice, we would be all be slaves to one tribe from Central Kenya. I used to tell our people not to be tired till jsutice is done. Even now, i tell the doubting Thomas that we still have so many Agwambos, so they should not even dream that they will have it easy. You all remember that the past regimes have maginalized the Luos for selfish reasons, but non of them was having sound sleep. Immediate former President stop sleeping the moment his Foregn Affairs Minister who used to defend him died. He only had a brief sigh of relief when Jaramogi agreed to save him after 1992 elections and Agwambo agreed to save him from the jaws of our central brothers after 1997 elections.
The fight has to continue till justice is done to all. I am glad that we have stopped name-calling, but that is not enough. Let’s dirty our hands by working hard because nobody is capable of achieving what we can. We are the Israelites of Kenya and even our culture is the same as that of the Israelis.
May i take this opportunity to congratulate our ladies who are proud of our culture by ignoring advances mag mwache. Culture must be preserved at all cost.
They say all sorts of bad things about us, yet they die to get married to Luos. We are the only people where you can’t distinguise the divide between the poor and the rich.
We shall be part and parcel of te daily running of this country because it our right not a favour as others want us to believe.
Let’s joint hands together and stop asking each other whether they were seen at Maseno, St. Mary or Makarere. Those questiosn have brought us down. It does not matter where you were seen or not seen, the issue is that we all belong together and must work together for the benefit of all.
Thanks very much for this space.

    OPPOSITION AND POLITICAL OPPORTUNISM

The truth is bitter and there is nothing that those who are criminal minded are more affraid of than the blunt truth and its weight in enforcing justice. It is a fact that the Luos have couragiously stood for truth justice and democracy since long before independence. Jaramogi Oginga Odinga,I am proud to say, refused to take up a yes-man post under the British government prior to independence as the likes of Musa Amalemba were excited with similar posts leading to the pre-independence freedom song ”Hatutaki Amalemba! Hatutakiiii!!!”. Jaramogi could have opted to be a sycophant of a government which at the time had an empire on which the sun never set, but he did not for the sake of Kenya’s freedom and independence. No wonder he wrote ”Not Yet Uhuru”!

At a time that nobody including Kikuyus could utter the name of Jomo Kenyatta he couragiously and boldly mouthed it till he was released. In fact GEMA Leaders at the time wanted Jomo Kenyatta to die in prison.

Satan cannot look our Lord Jesus Christ in the eye for obvious reasons.Likewise those who have grabbed land and other state properties, let alone committed crimes like political assassinations cannot sleep with the prospect of a Raila presidency. They are scared stiff of the clean Raila Amolo Odinga becoming President becasue they fear he will either hang them or send them to the dangeons at the Kamiti Maximum Prison, to which they actually belong.

They never had the foresight of seeing that crimes do not pay but will always come back to visit those who commit them. Whether or not Raila is a President the true owners of land in Central Province, Rift Valley, and the rest of the country will one day get it back and Kenyans will one day shake off GEMA hegemony.

Stopping Raila Amolo Odinga with the age limit is the acme of naivety since truth like the head of the hydra will always keep on reappearing exactly where it has been cut off!The truth is from the LORD and since the LORD is not a man no amount of human maneouvring will make him let his people to be extinct in favour of GEMA,the ”grabologists”!

Since what Raila Amolo Odinga stands for is true and just more and more of his like are going to be born by not only Luo families but also the tribes that are being fooled to support selfish GEMA greed only to be abandoned like was the case of Dr. Machage and not to mention the GEMA sycophant Mungatana.

The fury of those whose land has been stolen by GEMA will never be quenched by the likes of Professor Ongeri or Professor George Kinuthia Muthengi never-ole Saitoti, a true Kikuyu but who cares less if the descendants of Mau Mau get back the land their fathers fought and died for! No Grand Coalition will stop the bloodline of Mau Mau freedom fighters from fighting till the homeguards return their land in the Central Province and and till the homeguards stop forcing them to commit murders on lands that are never their own outside Central Province.

The Luos have nothing to lose by being in the opposition since they are by culture against injustice. They are fighting a just war on the side of the man from Galilee and that being so they will never lose in historical terms. We have nothing to apologise for since we have never assassinated anybody or robbed anybody of his land.

We are proud that no amount of money can buy our integrity as was learned the hard way by Mwangi Kiunjiri when he faled to bribe the Luo delegates at the Bomas of Kenya.

My prayer is that the Kambas turn to God Almighty in order that they are never again used by evil men against God and justice: Pathologist Kaviti on Ouko, Kivuitu/Kianga on rigging the elections, and General Mulinge-”The Luos should tell us who killed Ouko!”– verbal logorrhoea in Parliament.

For justice and the truth the Luos will stand or fall but never deviate.

Some people in Rwanda were saying that there are no luos in Zimbabwe.Mugabe is very lucky.I think stones are very important
Luos should marry Wazungu, waindi, waria and others to make the world a better place.

  9. Herbert

I do not think Luos have to remain in opposition for anything to move. It needs constructive efforts. Luos are better at mobilising for a cause and that is why they have been feared in politics.

Right now there is no credible contribution from the Luos in government in Kenya. The PM has been swallowed so much that you hardly hear him talk constructively and in line with the Agwambo of the pre-election period. Things are happening right under his nose and he is so much engrossed in trying to maintain some tranquility. Its like your wife is doing all manner of things and you stand watching helplessly, saying all is well, yet the things she does do not in any way have a reflection of the person you are. You risk being lumped with her and accused of being a willing party to her actions.Raila needs to stand his ground and not calm dissenting voice while the other wall is being brought down with impunity. May the real Raila stand up to be counted and not help steer a sinking ship!

when all is said and done about the luo opposition politics,i think the next logical thing to do is to empower our pple academically.

  11. Jagweng

Well said Duncan, I think its a great paradigm shift on the part of the Luo leadership. I hope that the Onagi Leadership can create enough Luo Billionaires with the traction to develop flagship corporates to create employment for our people. So that some of us can inject our hard sought world class talents into those corporates.
It is very sad that we are competitive all the way till university afterwhich for some reason we cant seem to get jobs. I guess its because not many of our leadership own influential stakes in companies to maintain a meritocracy in the labour market.

  12. Tom J. Obengo

The Fisheries Department must show a clear plan for introducing and maintaining coolers along the fish-landing beaches, and to educate fishermen and other stakeholders on modern fishing practices, as well as marketing. The current practice, where people from as far as Central Province provide cooler-lorries to transport fish from the beaches to Nairobi is one of the harsh economic realities that continue to perpetuate poverty in the region. The often-quoted turnover of fish and the resultant billions of shillings earned are only benefitting business tycoons from afar.

the second issue the Economic Forum must address is wealth creation within the province. Food production must be given top priority. Currently, eggs are “imported” from Nakuru, while cabbages are brought in from Nyandarua. This happens while rivers Nyando, Kuja, Sare, Migori, Yala, Awach, Nzoia, Miriu and many others faithfully pour their waters into Lake Victoria. This also happens when millions of idle youth beg politicians to “release” them after funerals, or to provide “listening allowances” after political rallies.

The Economic Forum must develop a “Marshall Plan” for wealth creation in Nyanza. Politicians should stop mourning about past injustices of the kenyatta and Moi regimes. They should stop talking about how hard it is to share a half a loaf of bread among so many, and start networking for grand economic growth in the province. Leadership of the province must move from mere distribution of CDF money and attending funerals; we must now move ten levels above where we are; we must enable the population of Nyanza to engage in the production and export of fruits, vegetables, fish, sugar, gold, timber and knowledge.

Just but a thought on Herbats Comment:
I dont really beleive that Raila is playing along the ethnic bigwigs. When getting married, a couple barely knows each other. They move in together as complete strangers, trying to scratch character surfaces of each other in every moment and issue. You would want to create limits of your actions and reactions until such a time as you feel you are in total control. Why should we then hurry him up? He’s creating a better tomorrow and we must let him do it at his own pace, not to start thinking like football spectators who always feel they could have scored,goal-kept or defended better. The question for us today is whether we as individuals are working hard everyday for a better tomorrow. How much support are we giving to provide an enabling enviroment for his dreams for us. Scratch on what you should do, not what is being done by others, its simply called whining, its cowardly and unacceptable.

  15. Daniel Odero Odinya

I totally agree and disagree with most of the comments given about luos, but one thing I need to tell Luos is that they still need to work much harder than they have done. One day God will abundantly reward them for their hardwork. We need to empower ourselves academically since God gave the luo a brain and after that don’t wait to be employed, create one on your own.

  17. ONOWI

oromo wa. lets do what we can to be in the next government in whichever way.Lets follow the goings keenly coz the political wind has started gathering strength. Be wise jokanyanam.

  18. Jarongo

I think it says something about the nature of the Luo wherever they may be.

In Uganda- they are fighting for justice and fairness. I hear now of Dr. Olara Otunnu- whom I hope does not win the presidency to expose the truth about Museveni and his presidency to the world (given Dr. Otunnu’s work and influence through the U.N).

In Sudan- Dr. Garang like Jaramogi rejected to be a pet to the government and fought for his people’s rights. He died but finally the world had come to see Sudan as it is.

And in Kenya- our record speaks for itself. We did not ask to be given such noble responsibility but we must not get tired of it- it is because providence saw us fit for such work that we are honored to bear its burden.
